Summary: Great Copier, Great Printer, Great Scanner, Great with Linux
Review: It all started out when I wanted a nice flatbed scanner that would work with my GNU/Linux desktop computer. I quickly found that a decent scanner was going to cost me. It was at this point that I realized that since my printer had been on the fritz, I might as well get a MFD so that I would have two devices in less space.The PSC 2210 is everything I wanted and more. It works nicely as a copier, and the scanner seems to be really top notch. Likewise the printer produces sharp, crisp text and life-like photos very quickly using the drivers HP developed for Linux. The built in photo card reader with index prints and easy print selection make this device even better. Oh, and as an added bonus, you can mount the memory sticks or other photo cards through the PSC 2210 under Linux for convenient access! If you are looking for a high quality printer and/or scanner, I highly recommend this unit. HP officially supports it under GNU/Linux, which is a big plus for those of us who prefer something other than Windows. So what are you waiting for? Click that order button...

Summary: I LOVE THIS PRINTER!!!!!
Review: The HP 2210 is an absolutely excellent machine. The printing is fast. Copying is simple and gives excellent results - I copied the cover of a magazine onto Kodak Glossy Photo Paper and got a copy that looks as good as the original. Next I copied a wallet size photo of my daughter, and you have to look at it very carefully to tell that it's not the original. Black and white copies are clear and crisp. Scanning is easy and gives great results. Printing is fast and clear, and doesn't slow the computer while printing. Setup was so simple - the only way to screw it up would be to not follow the instructions (which are easy enough for a child to follow). The ink cartridges are easy to install, and less expensive than the cartridges for the other brands of printers I looked at. Be sure to get the photo print cartridge, it's worth the extra couple of bucks. I have not tried to fax anything yet, or use the photo card option, but so far, I have no compaints and lots of praise for this great machine!

Summary: Excellent machine
Review: I have had my 2210 for over a year now and it has performed like a champion. I've had no issues with this printer what-so-ever. Print quality is excellent; color copies are excellent. I have also used the copier function to make color copies of photographs and they are near perfect to the original photo! Having the memory card slots is a huge plus and I've had no compatibility problems using the various brands of memory cards I have. This printer deserves a 10 rating in my book!

Summary: Good printer, not as good installation, iffy tech support
Review: I'm actually happy with the printer itself, but there have been a few rocky moments. The software installation has a couple of times where there are extended waits and to a normal person it appears that the CD is bad or the system locked up. I eventually found that if you just keep waiting and don't touch anything it will eventually finish successfully. My big disappointment so far has been that when I have used the proof sheet feature to try to print some 4x6 prints directly from a memory card, in spite of my selecting borderless on the proof sheet it prints the photos with a border. Online tech support walked me through several test prints which succeeded in nothing more than wasting paper, ink, and lots of time. My HP P130 photo printer prints borderless from a memory card just fine, but the PSC 2210 does not, and for me this makes the direct print from memory card feature a lot less useful. One aspect of the memory card slots deserves some mention. It is a good idea to make sure that all writes to a memory card have been saved before it is removed (or you could lose data) and a Dazzle USB 6 in 1 card reader I have allows you to right click on the drive icon, select eject (it doesn't actually eject the card, you have to pull it out), and know that you're good to remove the card. Both the HP PSC 2210 and the P130 give an error message when you "eject" the card, but then don't complain when you actually pull the card out. I think HP could use just a little more polish on their software for this.

Summary: Almost everything you need
Review: The HP PSC 2210 Multifunction is a compact printer/scanner/copier/fax that handles all tasks well. Photos come out looking great, printouts can be printed in draft mode to save ink, and the copier is slow but functional -- unless you have huge stacks of collated copies to make. I haven't put the scanner to great use yet, but the few tests I've run look promising. As a nifty extra feature, you can insert various digital camera memory cards directly into the printer and either print out photos directly or transfer them to your computer. This is extremely handy if you don't want an extra wire hanging out of your computer for your camera. The two major drawbacks to the 2210 are that the ink is terribly expensive and that the machine is not easy to use across a home network. Over the long run, this machine will cost a pretty penny, but its convenience is well worth the ongoing cost. The networking problem is more serious for those with more than one machine at home. Using a hub or buying a print server will likely allow you to print across the network; scanning is a little more dubious. For those looking for an excellent printer that can also double as a scanner and simple fax and copier, the 2210 is an excellent choice. For the relatively few advanced home users with more sophisticated needs, this machine may end up frustrating you as you push it to its limits. Too bad, because it is almost perfect.

Summary: Six Color Printing is Great. Get the PSC 2110 Instead!
Review: I bought this PSC 2210 all-in-one as an upgrade to my trusty HP 950 in order to get HP's new six-color, borderless printing. The six-color printing (accomplished by trading out the black cartridge for another three-color unit) is great. It's every bit as good as what I get from my HP 7550 Photosmart printer - for both text and color photos. Unfortunately, borderless printing can only be performed when photos are sent from a PC -- and not when printing directly from a memory card. If I had known this before hand, I probably would've purchased the less [spendy] PSC 2110 instead -- and gone without the extra cost of the PSC 2210's memory card reading feature. As background, the PSC 2210 and 2110 are identical units except for the built-in card reader which allows the PSC 2210 to print directly from a memory card -- either by selecting the photo's number in the LCD menu, or by "bubbling in" a proof sheet and scanning it, after which the PSC 2210 will output all of the selected photos automatically. Unfortunately, since neither method will print without borders, I've found myself by-passing the card reader entirely - and outputting my photos almost exclusively from my PC! As a positive, PC World magazine (in their November, 2002 issue) has verified HP's claim of a 73 year photo life when using HP's Premium Plus photo paper. Since archiving my photos is an important issue to me, I found this news to be very reassuring. In terms of general capabilities, the PSC 2210 is also an excellent color and black & white copier. The scanner's resolution is good enough to make e-mail quality images, but inadequate for producing higher definition photo enlargements. (I don't use the fax machine so I won't comment here.) One of the most outstanding improvements of the PSC 2210, though, is its much lower profile, which gives the unit a sleeker and more stylish appearance on my desk. This was made possible by the six-color system's shorter ink tanks, and by eliminating the dedicated 4" x 6" paper tray found on the HP 950. Snapshot paper is now fed through the regular paper tray -- by adjusting the width of the paper guide accordingly. If you're in the market for a new all-in-one, HP's new six-color printing system is fantastic! But for borderless prints -- save the hundred bucks - and get the PSC 2110 instead!

Summary: Love my 2210
Review: I've owned my HP2210 now for about two weeks and I love it. I've used almost all of the photo print capabilities and find them to be excellent. This is particularly unusual since I am a 35MM photo buff. The quality on the 2210, using the 58 print cartridge and HP photo paper is consistant with my 35MM prints. I've enlarged existing 3.5 X 5 prints to 8 X 10, printed digital shots and printed shots E-mailed to me. They are absolutely beautiful. The install went without a hitch following HP's install poster. I run Win XP and had no problems with the software. The unit does have a large footprint on my desk but with this kind of capability...who cares. The black printing is comparable to other inkjet printers, just fine of home use. The copy capability is very good for our light useage. I've used the scanner and it's output is very good, like other HP top quality scanners. I haven't faxed anything yet. we are not heavy fax users. I wanted the capability just in case. Overall, I see this unit lasting us for years and giving us a home capability comparable to any small office.

Summary: Hunk of Junk and bad support
Review: I have had this printer 14 months when it just stopped working. When I turn the machine on, all it does is blink lights. When I called HP support they said it would cost $55 to talk to a technician. They would do nothing at all to help unless I paid more money because the warranty was up (12 months). They did not tell me if the machine was fixable or not. I already paid $300 and do not want to pay any more for this hunk of junk. I will never buy another HP product. HP does not support their products.

Summary: DISAPPOINTMENT
Review: Like others, I was initially impressed with the ease of installation and use and quality of the printing with this machine. I bought this multifunction machine as a gift for a family member, who is not very computer savvy; however, this would also be something that I could use when borrowing her computer. Unfortunately, after I bought it, she let it sit around the house until she got a new computer and a new computer desk. I personally opened the box and hooked it up for her this past July 4th. This item was used infrequently, generally as a printer. The only time it was used as a fax machine, on February 20th, it did well--only to die two days later. Now when trying to turn it on, it makes a horrible noise, and it looks like there is a problem with the belt drive. After a period of time, a message reading "Scanner Failure to Initialize" comes up then asks you to turn it off and back on. You can't use it to do anything. A call to the Customer (No) Service rep also resulted in frustration. Their records indicate that this item was purchased in Nov. 2002, and so the warranty is up. I can tell you for a fact, as I told the rep, the box containing this item was opened and this machine was first used on July 4, 2003 (that is the day I went out an bought the USB cable for it and hooked it up). So, we also have an expensive piece of junk that is not under warranty based on the date of purchase(but in terms of use is brand new). I personally spoke to the Customer Service rep who essentially called me a liar, saying that this machine was nearly 2 years old and that if there had been a defect in its workmanship within the first year, when it was new, it would have been under warranty. Well, this machine was within its first year of use--brand new, out of the box. Now it would cost more to repair it than to buy a new one. The rep also invited me to upgrade! If their product is so shoddy that it couldn't survive 8 months of infrequent use, why would I want another one and sink more money into this black hole! Given their lack of responsiveness and poor consumer relations, I'll not buy another HP product.

Summary: Top of the line printer quality and ease of use.
Review: A great piece of machinery for the home office, easy to set up and indespensible to have around the house. Need a copy for the kid's school? Done. Scan those monthly statements for backup? Done. Print some photos? Done. Send that fax to your doctor? Done. I absolutely love this machine, it's time saving features allow me to tkae of all my small business needs right from my home office without having to run to Kinkos. HP does it again and their customer support is as always, top notch.
I highly recommend this printer for anyone who wants the home office to get a little more self-sufficient.
