Rating: Summary: Better Than I Expected Review: After reading all of the glowing reviews on the 1200U, I decided to go for the 1200U Photo, which includes the attachments for scanning slides and negatives. The combination of Amazon's price, and the savings of buying the complete package was too good to pass up. After all, it's only about $100 more than a mediocre scanner that doesn't have those options.Anyway, I'm extremely surprised at what I got for my money. The scanner installed easily, has a real on/off switch, warms up quickly, and scans at speeds that blow away the competition. I was especially delighted at the quality I was getting from scanned negatives, considering this is not a dedicated negative/slide scanner. The photo editing software that comes with it is okay, but a long way from the full fledged Adobe Photoshop. OCR works well most of the time. As with most scanners, you will probably be dissapointed using the default settings, and some time and patience is required learning how to fine tune scans to get the best results. Fortunately, Epson gives you plenty of options for tweaking scans to perfection, or close to perfection, so don't be afraid to experiment. The manual is good enough to get you started, and the help menus are pretty good, too. Although novices may do better with a scanner that is more user friendly, I doubt most buyers will be dissapointed with this scanner. Especially those who want the option of scanning negatives and slides. Finally, here's a tip that took me a long time to figure out. Most manuals tell you to scan at a low resolution when e-mailing photos (smaller file and size). Instead, try a higher resolution and use the Adobe PhotoDeluxe software to resize the scanned image. Your file size and image will be reduced, yet the quality of your image will look much better. As I said, don't be afraid to experiment.

Rating: Summary: Review of Epson 1200U Photo Scanner for a Macintosh Review: I am totally pleased with this scanner. The setup and hookup was very simple and straightforward. It probably took less than ten minutes to have everything up and running. I am using an older Macintosh (PowerPC 7300) that has a PCI to USB interface card installed running OS9. There were absolutely no problems with anything although Epson doesn't specify it will work with the older Macs, it worked fine with mine! Scanning 35mm slides is perfect and the quality is wonderful.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: I didnt understand how to use the negative photo scanner and when I figured it out --- I LOVE IT!!! It is SO EASY, if you bought this and your not satisfied with the photo scanner, your doing it wrong; I was doing it wrong and when I figured it out -- I LOVE IT!!! My photo's are sharp and clear. I can edit, enhance the color, and the photo touch up is a breeze. I can scan documents - everything and anything. Negative's, Positives, large negative format, medium negative format, 35mm negatives and regular photo's come out great also.
Rating: Summary: Good quality, great brand! Review: I must start by saying that Amazon is offering this scanner at a great price. Plus if you are buying a printer or other Epson products to go along with your scanner, go to Epson's website and check for any rebates over there. This scanner provides great quality scans. It comes ready with a transparency unit that allows you to scan 35mm negative or positive film, brownie size film (2.4x3.5in), 4x5 film, and slides. You're getting a high speed scanner that also has accurate optical character recognition (OCR). This means you can scan text and export it to your word processor. And if high tech devices give you trouble, you'll love this scanner's Start button for one-touch scanning! You're also getting 4 nice little programs: Adobe PhotoDeluxe (Adobe Photoshop LE would have been nicer), Broderbund The Print Shop PressWriter, NewSoft Presto! PageManager for Epson, and ArcSoft Photo Printer. I like PageManager a lot because with one click, it scans your document/picture and exports it to MS Word, or your email program or any program it lists! The only problem I had was installing the driver. Being an USB ready device, I thought it would be as easy as installing my other USB devices. I guess it all depends on the system you have. But if you do have any problems, Epson's response to mine was fairly quick. :) Now that everything is up and running, I'm more than happy with my purchase. I highly recommend this product. :)

Rating: Summary: A great scanner for anybody. Period. Review: Within an hour of opening the box, I was scanning away. The PHOTO option is a must for anyone who has ever dreamed of organizeing pictures/photo albums. In about half of a day, I scanned in 8 rolls of film. The negative scanning feature allows you to get very high quality images quickly. Almost every picture I have scanned looks better after scanning it into the computer than the REAL print looks. This is a super (fast and high quality) scanner, and is well worth the investment.
