Summary: Can you scan negative pictures?
Review: I was told from where I bought it from that I could scan negative prints on this scanner but I don't know how to do it. Is that a true statement? Can some one help me?

Summary: When it actually works its great
Review: I've had this scanner for a while but now I've given up. The first few months I had this scanner the problem was trying to get my computer to recognize the thing, I finally figured out that the problem was due to a loose connection in either the power adapter or the usb cable. Most recently the problem is that its been "locked" The scanner doesn't have a lock, its a problem w/the driver which requires downloading a new one from the website. Now that I had got my scanner working, I scanned in a whole bunch of pictures, but my computer won't let me open them w/o making the program I was using to open the pic, or the pic doc itself stop running. Now s/t happened w/the power supply and it won't turn on! I'm giving up! I've had enough!

Summary: This scanner sucks!
Review: I've never been able to use this scanner. I'm getting the same error message, that the scanner is hardware locked. However, there is no external lock anywhere on the box. The Visioneer website is useless, has no email contact, no 800 tech support number. They have a long distance tech support # which I've waited on hold, twice, for 30 min then gave up. I'd avoid this company like the plague.

Summary: GREAT INEXPENSIVE SCANNER!!!
Review: The two star rating on this scanner got my attention!! I've used the Visioneer 5800 USB with Paperport software for three years, and I've never had a problem. It's simple to operate, makes terrific scans of not only papers, pictures, etc., but also objects, such as coins, pocket knives, and other such items. For the cost, ease of operation, & quality of copies & scans, I don't see how it can be beat!! I give it a 5 star all the way!!!

Summary: Visioneer 5800 the best I have ever owned
Review: This is the best scanner that I have ever owned. How can it only get 2 stars?? I use this piece of equipment every day, and have never been left wanting. Even though it was an inexpensive scanner to buy, I have never been sorry.

Summary: SCAM
Review: This product receives an "F". No tech support. Updated
drivers do not work. Spent time installing & uninstalling.
Got mine from Gateway computer package purchase.
Will not suggest you get one. It worked a couple of times
til this "Unlock" error came up. I have XP OS and it is supposed
to be compatible. What a rip off! If you see one on sale,
(5800 0r 5820 Visioneer) RUN AWAY!!FAST!! I have a Microtek
ScanMaker X6 - it works alot better.

Summary: not the newest but still does a great job
Review: Yes, of course this scanner is a bit older. I've had mine for a while now and it still does a great job. I am on my second computer with this scanner, in fact. It's extremely easy to use and the one touch buttons are a great help when you're in a hurry. The resolution is also good and I can scan photos big enough to do whatever I want with them. The top cover slips off easily for items that are too large or long.

Contrary to other reviews, this scanner DOES work with Windows XP. I've used it with both XP Home and Pro (as well as Windows ME). It is practically plug and go with XP - just install the software then plug in it!
