Rating: Summary: So easy, even I could do it (and that's saying a lot) Review: I planned to wait till my husband got home to set up this scanner, especially since I really messed up the installation of our LAST scanner. It never really worked right after I got my hands on it. So I really, really did mean to wait until someone more techno-savvy than me could set up this one. But as the afternoon wore on and I sat there, glancing over at the box from time to time, my resolve started to fade...until, finally, in spite of my son's warnings (No! Mom, don't! Remember last time!), I opened the box, took out the instructions and set to the task of installation...and (surprise!) it was easy. The thing practically installed itself. I only had to click a "Continue" button now and then. It was truly that easy. And using it has been just as easy. I've scanned tons of pictures for my online business, uploaded them to my sites on the internet and made a lot of sales with the quality pics from this scanner. In my free time, I have been working my way through the instructions for the special features that come with this scanner. But I really don't need them yet for everyday use. This one truly was just point and click...and then sit back and enjoy the results!
Rating: Summary: WTF?! No Mac support...?! Review: The features of this scanner are amazing for the price. I was sold and ready to purchase until I saw that it doesn't support Macintosh. Truly asinine on Canon's part.
Rating: Summary: first scanner - great job! Review: Never used a scanner before...or even seen one in action. Read the specs on the Canon..I liked what I read. Used it now for 4 months with absolutly no problems with terrific quality. Have scanned several hundred slides with 1000's more to go. Quality wonderful
Rating: Summary: Going back tomorrow Review: After UMAX left me orphaned (no driver support for windows XP for my model) am forgetting the cheap models and sticking with namebrand. Tried Epson 1250 and 1650 Photo, just bought the Canon 1250U2F. The worst scan quality of the 3. Lack of crisp detail when compaired same pictures from other scanners to the original. The Epson 1650 clearly the best. Returned it primarilly to check out Canon - same brand as my printer, but the Epson also had software issues. Since the return, Epson has released the 1660 which added USB 2.0 and apparently resolved some of the software issues as few reviews note software problems. Interesting review on the Epson 1660 vs Epson 2400 - not worth the price premium as the 1660 excels.
Rating: Summary: Scanner will not work with XP Home Review: After 4 call to Canon over 3 days I shipped it back. No 1-800 # at canon. I lost money on it and time.
Rating: Summary: Handed a lemon Review: I purchased this scanner as a christmas gift for my wife, and decided as soon as I got it to try it out in my office. From the moment I took it out the box and tried it out I was disappointed. Everything scanned came out blue. Amzazon advised that I had to deal with the manufacturers to sort out the problem. The manufacturer's customer service department response so far seem helpful, certainly alot more than [company name]! I am glad I tried it before Christmas.
Rating: Summary: Wasn't completely impressed Review: This is to be a gift for a novice computer user. I was a little disappointed in the performance of the scanner, it takes too long to scan photo's and documents. The Adobe photo software seems more complicated then other software that I've used in the past, however since its a gift I was only verifying that things worked.
Rating: Summary: It's even better than you imagine! Review: I'm no genius computer scientist, but I know more about PCs than most folks. So when I read the promo material that made this one sound easy, I assumed that meant it was also weak and of limited utility.Boy, was I wrong! First, it's incredibly simple: Power comes via the USB, so you don't need a second cord - which means stowing it away is easier than any other scanner around. (Its small size, low weight, and nifty stand make that even easier.) Second, the one-button features work far better than I imagined was possible. Their settings are customizable, but the factory defaults are quite impressive. One button, a document is scanned and mailed to my mom. Another button, a new image is scanned and put on my desktop. Another button, an image is scanned, cropped perfectly, and printed, just like a color photo copier in my home. And for this price?? Makes me wonder what other scanner makers are doing, selling inferior products with fewer features for a much higher price. Grrrrr!
Rating: Summary: Don't bother if you want to scan slides or negs... Review: I bought this scanner based on positive reviews and my own experiences with Canon's EOS cameras, but this scanner is an absolute piece of junk. I am a semi-pro photographer and shoot a lot of slides, and it simply couldn't handle them. Scans of sharp slides and negatives were unacceptably blurry, colors of vivid slides with above-average contrast were flat, well-exposed slides were underexposed in the scan, and it was impossible to get a clean scan of slides with a lot of contrast (which slides tend to have anyway). I also tried with negatives, particularly black and white negatives, and unless it was a low-contrast neg, it lost all detail in the shadows. The low-contrast b&w neg that I scanned came in blurry, and I have printed this negative in a darkroom and it's sharp. I have a beautiful, high-contrast negative with gorgeous shadows and highlights, as well as a pure white background lit with several studio lights, and it absolutely destroyed it. Even 4x6 color prints lost detail in the shadows. I am using Windows 2000 and Photshop 7.0, and installed the latest drivers for this scanner, but it is surprisingly bad for a Canon product. I am extremely disappointed in it and will be returning it. Not a single scan was sharp or well-exposed, but the originals were all fine and have been printed or scanned professionally with much better results. Don't waste your money on this piece of junk!!!
Rating: Summary: Love it! Review: I purchased this scanner and love it. I just had some photos developed and was a bit disappointed in the quality of the colors. I scanned the negatives and the results amazed me. I now have printed them and have beautiful photos of a special day. Can't wait to dig out my old negatives from 30 yrs ago and print the photos. Just hope the negatives have held up thru the years. The scanner was ez to setup and get running. I like the photo programs that came on the disk. When you scan negatives, make sure you follow the directions and place them face down. It does affect the results. I am not so concerned with scan time as some seem to be. I can always find something to do while the scanner does it's job. Very happy with this purchase!
