Rating: Summary: Drivers thin, performance subpar, glitches, colors, etc. Review: In design, it seems sleek, useful < two card ports built right in> and fast. EXCEPT... Windows XP/XP Pro,, simply hates the drivers supplied. Constant battles to get the computer to not only recognize the scanner, but to KEEP IT installed.I have had many a fine day wasted just getting it reconfigured to work. NOTHING else is changed, yet the system constantly cant " find" the scanner. Just a nightmare that the drivers never seem to solve. Now, performance. I have had numerous problems with severely distorted colors, mysterious " bands and streaks" across photos scanned, rendition and color way off the mark, all around, I would NEVER buy a visioneer again. I bought a 5820 to try n get buy with it, till I can afford a Minolta 5400 or Dual Scan elite, the visioneer 5820 wont even operate or configure with XP.visoneer has a lousy reputation with Windows, and Win XP goes to great lengths to make sure you DONT purchase another Visioneer scanner. I cant rate it lower than 1 star, or i would.
Rating: Summary: Great in 98se, Trouble in XP Review: Installed like it should in Windows 98. Worked great for months under that OS. But when I did a format of the hard drive and a clean install of Windows XP, I was amazed when XP detected the drivers and put them in automatically. Great, right? Well, it did not enable the ONE-TOUCH features or either of the card readers... It only installed the scanner driver. So I made sure it was the latest version of the driver, then put in the paperport software. It worked the first time but has not successfully found the scanner on boot-up since. Consider this a cautionary tale! While windows xp seems superior in all regards, I now no longer have a working scanner and the Visioneer website doesn't cover any such issue. In fact, except for a link to SELL the 7700, they barely mention the unit.
Rating: Summary: Lousy image quality Review: The 7700 was a replacement for my years old Microtek X6 that had been a good scanner but was beginning to show its age. The drivers installed without a hitch and I was up and running in less than 10 minutes.Unfortunately, the image quality of this scanner is terrible. I tried dozens of combinations of the manual settings, trying to get some scans that were acceptable. Even with the full "48 bits" skin tones and color graduatiions were completely unnatural. Add to this the occasional scan that had light verical lines. I returned the unit (thanks Amazon) and subsequently purchased a Canon LiDE 30 that works fine.

Rating: Summary: Love it! Review: The software Visioneer provides with their scanners is what sets them apart from Epson, HP, Canon, and all the others. Forget multiple scanning operations and fiddling with setting to get the scan right. Kiss cheap drivers goodbye. There are multiple buttons on the scanner itself which are preprogrammed for the "one-touch scanning" feature, or you can program them yourself using the software. Press a button, and it just does what you want. You can send the output to wherever you choose, whether it be straight to the printer, to the scan software, or to your photo editing program. Have your document OCRed and sent to Word. Fax it to someone. The flexibility of this scanner is amazing. And it all comes preprogrammed for those who don't know or don't care how to customize it. I love Visioneer and have three of their scanners (office, home 1, and home 2). Check them out!

Rating: Summary: LOVE IT---WHEN IT WORKS!!! Review: THIS IS A GREAT IDEA FOR SUCH A SCANNER. HOWEVER, I THINK IT NEEDS TO REMOVE SOME BUGS. I HAD TO REINSTALL IT 7 TIMES AND HAD TO CALL FOR SUPPORT (NOT TOLL-FREE) FOUR TIMES AND I STILL CAN'T GET THE BUTTONS ON THE SCANNER TO WORK. HAVE TO USE IT THROUGH THE SOFTWARE. THOUGHT OF TAKING IT BACK FOR A REFUND, BUT THERE IS NO OTHER PRODUCT ON THE MARKET LIKE IT. IT IS TO TAKE THE COMPACT AND SMART MEDIA DISKS. I GOT IT TO WORK ONCE AND BOY WAS I THRILLED. SO FAR I NEED MORE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO GET THOSE BUTTONS TO WORK. I AM DETERMINED. I WANT IT SO BAD.
Rating: Summary: Good scanner, lousy installer Review: This scanner seems to be one that people love or hate. It has produced excellent scans for me--sharp and vibrant, every time. And the bundled Paperport software is useful. The problem I have had with it is that the bundled software is a bit flaky and does not uninstall cleanly. That is a bad combination as my solution to software problems is to get rid of the software, then re-install. Not so fast with Paperport--after uninstalling via "add/remove programs", you also have to manually search for and delete additional folders and files, and I also had to do some fairly hairy registry edits to make sure the software and drivers were really and truly gone before re-installing. This is inexcusable. Once it's working, however, it's wonderful. I recommend installing AFTER you've loaded up your PC with every bit of software you think you'll want this scanner to work with as the installer looks for those programs and builds links to them--handy for OCR or other work.
