Summary: printer simply does not respond
Review: I have owned this printer (MP730) for approximately 3 months. The printer does not respond when you go to print. The tech service at Canon has been responsive but are at a loss as how to resolve this issue. We uninstalled and reinstaled drivers and did assorted "tweaks". Presently, the MP730 is erratic, since it might respond 1 in 5 times. Also, the scan function does not always function. One of the techs at Canon indicated that this unit is quite new, "perhaps some bugs need to be fixed". At any rate, I am obviously displeased with this unit. I will probably donate to charity and get another HP or Lexmark.

Summary: how great is this?
Review: I love the quality of photo prints that i get out of this amazing multifunction printer. I had an very old multi-pass printer and loved it, but went lazer for black and white and missed being able to print in color and scan things into my computer. Happily all of those functions have returned in this easy to use, small but powerful multi-function printer. My husband teases me that I have a photo lab in our house and as an amateur photographer that's really fun. When you print photos on canon paper, they are divine!!! An added goodie for my husband who is a school teacher is that he can make overhead projector pages on this bad boy, too and doesn't have to wait in line at the school copy center! the only prob I have is that I can't figure out how to receive a fax, but I'm working on it!
great buy for the money and amazon has great prices-believe me I shop around before I buy. Get this and enjoy!

Summary: Incredible versatile machine
Review: I must say this machine is much more than I had hoped for from a multifunction. The Canon MultiPass MP730 does it all, and more importantly, does it all very well.

Printing:
This is a very fast printer. I've seen a few printers with similar speed ratings, but this is definitely one of the faster ones. Print quality is awesome for an inkjet printer. It prints photos almost as good as some of the photo printers. It allows printing of borderless photos and prints them directly from the compactflash card without using a PC.

Scanning:
Reasonably fast. Amazing quality.

Copying:
Copying is fast and good quality, but takes longer if you use the auto-document feeder (ADF). Color copies have really good color reproduction.

Faxing:
Again, very fast using the flatbed, but slower with the ADF. Of course, with the ADF, you don't have to stand around waiting for the fax to complete individual pages. I've sent many faxes between my work and home office and they've come out as good as any. Allows both PC-faxing and standalone faxing.

Accompanying software:
The drivers are very stable and have some pretty nifty features, such as addition of watermarks.

There are separate cartridges for all colors and so there is no wastage of ink. Cartridges are quite cheap too compared to some other companies such as Lexmark.

Annoyances:
- Paper tray is at the back, so printing envelopes is hard.
- No automatic duplexer available, although driver supports manual duplexing. (Admittedly, this is not so bad considering the price range, but HP sells a duplexer for OfficeJet 6110, so...)

All in all, this is definitely a steal for the price it's selling for.

Summary: AAAA+ machine
Review: I own a mid size company and have had many multi machines. This machine out shines them all. It has a great set up and is not flimsey like some of the other machines. The ink is cheap, and lasts a long time, scanner works great - love the software, fax is good, the printing is great.. all i can say is GREAT machine Good job cannon!!
Only draw back is no double sided rinting on copying. though I have been able to use the double sided from my publisher.. so even though they say no double sided on this machine some programs willlet you.
And before I forget I bought this brand new machine on 10-01-04 for $199.94 from COMP USA.

Summary: Very happy
Review: I purchased a MP730 2 months ago to replace the trusty HP Deskjet 722C that I'd used for the last 5 years. This unit quickly produces excellent B&W copies and computer print-outs. The scanning software is easy to use and has lots of features. I've used it to scan color photos into the computer and to save pieces of paper as PDF files. My Mom has no trouble sending faxes with it. I would definitely buy this all over again.

The MP730 received the PC Magazine Editor's Choice award in the Nov. 25, 2003 issue.

Summary: It is the best of printers. It is the worst of printers.
Review: I recently purchased the Canon Multipass MP730 from Amazon for $219.99-$30 in gift certificates. I was, thankfully, warned that the printer does not come with a USB cable. So, I bought one for $5.04. At least alll the ink tanks (black, cyan, magenta and yellow) were included. The printer arrived a week after I placed my order. It took me about an hour to fully install it. But, I am a novice at printer installation. So, your installation may be faster.

After installing the MP730 by precisely following each step in the instructions, I had no problems with the computer recognizing the printer or any other component of this MF device. Then, I easily aligned the print head and printed some test pages. This is where I encountered the only problem, if you would call it that, with this printer. It takes about 30 seconds to warm up when first turned on. That can be annoying. But, I will deal with it. Here are the positives and negatives, in random order, in a nutshell:

Pros:
1. Low cost of both machine and ink
2. Sharp, vivid text and photos
3. Easy scanning/copying of text and photos
4. Both a flatbed AND sheet-fed copier/scanner/fax
5. Reads digital camera memory cards

Cons:
1. Takes a long time (about 30 sec.) to warm up
2. Slightly large footprint
3. Fax doesn't share well with my phone, both on one line.
4. Noisy when not printing-beeps randomly. I have no idea why. It's normal and not a malfunction. But, it gets annoying.

Overall, for about $220.00, this is a great deal. Despite the minor annoyances I encountered with the Canon MP730, those are well worth the cost and space savings of having a multifunction machine and the MP730's vivid, crisp text and images make it a great machine that I am glad I own.

Update: Suddenly, the printer has begun eating the side of every page I print. I assume this is a feeding problem and the paper is going in wrong. But, I have straightened and repeatedly straightened the paper stack-dozens of times. I've tried small and big stacks of paper and a single sheet at a time. There appear to no remnants of a previous paper jam inside the printer. I now would give the MP730 3 stars at most. The mystery continues...

Update 2: After a brief conversation with a courteous Canon CSR/TSR, they mailed to me via 2nd-day air, a new MP-730 and a return mail label. I shipped the old one back at their expense and the new one has worked perfectly for about a month. Tech support gets a 10/10 for courtesy and knowledge. Them paying shipping both ways was a welcomed surprise.

Summary: A lot for the money!
Review: I shopped around for this item on the net, Amazon beat all of the prices by $10 plus free shipping. I placed the order early Monday morning and had it set up on Tuesday night!! This is a great product, prints beautiful photos at high speed. This is a photo printer unlike a lot of the others I looked at. The memory card slots are nice to have because you can print without having to turn your pc on. You can also copy and fax without your pc on as well. I got rid of my old scanner when it died and gave my old epson printer to my kids.
I highly recommend this Canon, it is really worth every penny!

Summary: Superb! I'm thrilled with this device.
Review: I'm one of those Consumer Reports-type fanatics who researches everything exhaustively before buying, and I decided on the MP730 due to its having a superior feature set (ADF, slots for memory cards, etc.) and generally very positive reviews on Amazon, PC Magazine, and elsewhere. From a feature standpoint, there's very little that compares with the MP730 (although I expect that to change any week now), and from a review standpoint, the MP730 seems to stand alone.

Setting up took under 10 minutes, and it went flawlessly on my Win98-equipped P3. I immediately tested just about every function: copying, printing, printing from my digital camera's memory card, receiving faxes, scanning from the document feeder, and more. Every function has worked smoothly, and the photo quality is amazing (although I understand I might get even better results from a dedicated photo printer). It's been two weeks now, and I have no complaints whatsoever. What a pleasure.

Summary: Absolutely Fabulous!
Review: I've had this product since the day it came out and I've been super-satisfied. The initial setup takes about 45min to complete, but after that it's full speed ahead. If you're not in a big rush the scanner works adequately. Also, there's multiple functions for the fax machine so that it can recieve fax signals and route telephone calls to my answering machine. I'd keep this in a well lit area because the LCD is hard to read in the shadow. Definately use a USB 2.0 cable or ethernet. Speed does matter. The programs that come with it, for scans, copies and such, are very easy to use.
