Summary: Just perfect with the Epson Perfection
Review: PROS: I needed a cheap scanner that will let me scan old 35mm slides. At the same time, I didn't want to buy just a photo scanner which had no use after my personal project. I was very impressed with the quality and didn't need to use higher resolution then 1200 which is about 2Meg file size. I also had some old color positives and black and white negatives which I was able to convert into digital images. Great for multipurpose.

CONS: I scanned about 400+ 35mm slides and notice that the software is a little buggy.
1. Sometimes after a scan when I would go to switch to the save/view window, the window would not popup and I had to scan again.
2. After scanning multiple slides about 50 I went to save them and got a "not enough disc space error". I didn't have the option to make space, it just exited out and I lost all my work.
3. Sometimes scanning a few slides it wouldn't properly align the borders. I had to rescan or scan one by one.

Summary: Pretty darn good scanner
Review: Pros:
Scans fast in high quality
Scans film
Good software package, to name a few, photoshop elements, OCR reader.

Cons:
Software that runs the scanner is a bit buggy, getting the software updates seems to only make it worse! Not the end of the world and still worth it to put up with the quality of the scanner

Overall:
Go for it! Not exactly on the cheap side but obviously with good reason. Software bugs aren't something unbareable just annoying once in a while.

Summary: Nice Scanner, shame about the software
Review: The Epson 2400 photo is a very nice scanner and is capable of producing excellent results. Unfortunately, that is where it stops. Like all Epson products it is let down by software. Quite simply the software does not work. The "Smart Panel" is about as stupid as you can get and crashes frequently in Windows XP, many of the push-button "functions" just will not work. Even in manual mode the dialogue boxes are difficult to follow and do not function as they should. The software assumes, for instance, that you have an Epson printer and does not provide facilities for any other printer. Quite bizarre. I have taken to using Photoshop import rather than the Epson software, it is faster, more efficient and, most of all, it works. In all honesty I cannot recommend this product unless you have alternative scanning software.

Summary: Scans Great
Review: The Epson 2400 will scan prints, negatives or slides. It compares or equals a dedicated film scanner. With a flatbed scanner however you can scan prints also. Sometimes the negative will give you the best image and sometimes the print will look better. The Epson will scan all types. Had some trouble with mine and had to return it but found the images to be excellent. The biggest and only real trouble was trying to find an actual telephone number to ask a real person a question on returns. Never found it. Excellent scanner though.

Summary: Good scanner now more affordable!
Review: The list price on the Epson 2400 Photo Scanner recently was reduced which should make the scanner more affordable. With the many high-end offerings and now the lowered price, you can't go wrong.

Summary: Love it!
Review: The other reviews don't do much justice for this scanner-perhaps due to user error...I got this for christmas, within 2 hours I was able to scan enough pictures (approx 50, that time includes finding which pictures I wanted too!) to make a wonderful memory disk for my mom. Could never get this type of quality or speed from my other scanner. Scanning from negatives is a breeze and they look great. I'm very pleased with this product. Easy to understand and easy setup.

Summary: Epson 2400 Perfection Scanner is not perfect
Review: The Perfection 2400 scanner is the first Epson product that I have bought. The scanner and software installed on my HP Laptop running XP Pro. The photo scans are fine, however, the Copy applet does not recognize my HP p1100 printer. I contacted the Epson support line and they recommended that I set up a dummy Epson printer. The copy utility will now run. The problem is that you need to keep the Epson dummy printer as the default in order to get the copy utility to run and then change to your printer to make a copy. After making copies, you then need to reset you printer to the default printer...

Summary: OK Scanner, LOUSY software
Review: The product info says it will scan medium format film, but the lousy software will only recognize up to a 4.5x6 cm negative/transparancy. Sice I use 6x7 cm format, this scanner is useless for this purpose. So far, I haven't been able to 'trick' the software into scanning a complete 6x7, nor have I had any luck using Photoshop to do this with this scanner. It would be so much better if Epson would just let the user select the area to be scanned, like HP does.

Summary: Epson 2400 is Great
Review: This is the third scanner I have owned...and by far the best. The directions for installing the scanner were very easy to follow. The only problem I have had with the scanner was the copy utility (I have a HP 932c printer). That problem was resolved when I downloaded a patch from Epson. When scanning paper with white background, setting needs to be "text/line drawing," or the background comes out gray. The scan speed is awesome, pictures are nice and clear, and colors remains very close to those in original picture. The negatives are nice and clear when printed out. The only part of this scanner that is not 100% satisfactory for me, is the OCR software. It will do a very nice job on simple text, but if pictures or columns are added, it's disappointing. A nice sideline to this scanner is that it not only performs well, but looks very nice.It has a beautiful metallic finish.

Summary: Watch out for the drivers
Review: This scanner is capable of spectacular results, even from negatives and positive film. However, not all is well. I have two of these (one at work, one at home) and have had frustrating driver problems with them on Windows 2000 machines. On one I upgraded to Photoshop 7 and lost the scanner. On the other my Epson 1270 printer seems to have caused an unrecoverable conflict/corruption. Epson support was able to help me, eventually, with one but the other still does not work 3 weeks later. Be sure to download the latest drivers for best results. They correct more issues than the descriptions would indicate.

On Windows XP and Windows ME machines, I have had no problems and fantastic results.
