Summary: A Fine Component
Review: First I must correct two inaccurate claims from a previous review. Just as any audio component cd recorder, you can use any blank cd made for use in such an application. I have used many brands without any problems. It should be known that computer discs don't work here. Second, this machine is not hard to use if you read and understand the manual. It has more controls because it has more features and flexibility than a lesser unit. This recorder is a true high end component and should therefore not be compared to the 555, Philips, or others that are not in it's class. This unit is one of very few on the market that have analog to digital and digital to analog converters that would be considered true audiophile equipment. If you have an average audio system you don't need to spend this much, the less expensive units will work just fine for you. One of the reasons I bought this unit was to do analog archiving, it takes an analog input and does a magnificent job of putting it on a digital disc. It actually seems to increase the dynamic range of the source. The playback of comercial discs is a very rich sound. It actually sounds better than an older Nakamichi that I own, and thats saying something. You can recognize the quality built into this machine by the feel of the controls. I highly recomend this unit for those who can appreciate a fine component. To those who just want to copy a friends cds buy the cheap one, you won't know the difference. p.s. Amazon's service was incredible when the first one I recieved was damaged. They took care of me (Philip) better than a local shop. I would order from amazon again without hesitation.

Summary: A little complicated at first, but worth it!
Review: This is top of the line for Pioneer and well worth the extra cash! It's a little dodgy to play with at first, definitely use a CD-RW disc for your first few times!

The only downside to this is that you have to use the Pioneer CD-R & CD-RW discs, other brands don't work in here. But the quality is excellent of the player, it records like a dream and is fun to use. I would recommend this to anyone who is sick of using tapes to record music.
