Summary: BUYER BEWARE
Review: Buyer Beware! Beautiful sound capability, but the 3-CD drawer or tray broke after 24 calendar hours of use! The very fancy mechanism that pulls CD's in and out broke, and ate my CD! THERE IS NO TECH SUPPORT FROM PIONEER! You may be better off with a less fancy, single tray unit. From the other reviews, this is obviously a problem with the product line, not just a single lemon. PROCEED WITH CAUTION!

Summary: Loader tray is a DOG
Review: How can a company that has historically made so many great products make such a total piece of junk? I have had this CD recorder for a year and a half. It is currently at a repair shop in the hope that they can fix the CD loading tray from constantly jamming and eating CDs. I'm not holding my breath because the folks at Pioneer are totally uncooperative about fixing the problem. I may have to throw away this [$$$] piece of, ahem, equipment because it simply won't work and I can't get it fixed. Whatever you do, don't buy a Pioneer CD player or recorder. If you're like me, you've had many other good Pioneer products and might be tempted to buy something like this from them. If you do, you'll regret it. Run away as fast as you can.

Summary: The mid-fi guys are catching on
Review: I currently own 4 CD players and was intrigued about the possibility of owning a CD recorder. I shopped around, checking various web sites and stereo stores until I found the Pioneer PDR-W739. The first thing that caught my attention was it's use of very fine Burr-Brown digital to analog converters. These D/A chips have been in some highly regarded "High End" CD players within the last 4 years or so. After spending about 1/2 an hour reading the instructions, I found the unit very easy to use, especially when copying from CD to CD. Copying from an analog source was a bit trickier, but I soon was able to make very good copies of some old LP's. Sound quality is quite good, the most appealing quality is the PDR-W739's ability to project a large soundstage. A keeper.

Summary: Loader tray is a DOG
Review: I experienced the same problem with the cd loader tray. Absolute garbage. I however, will not waste my time and money trying to get it fixed. It's trash. And it's the last thing I ever buy from Pioneer. A once fine company (I have 30 year old Pioneer speakers that are large but great sounding) has sunk to rock bottom.

Summary: I Found it Great!
Review: I got it for xmas and I haven't troubles. I make my owns CD's (CD-R OR CR-RW) from the source I want it. It's VERY, VERY easy to use. I make copies from cd's to cd (normal speed or 2X speed), old records (longplays and singles) to cd, cassettes to cd and even from my computer(... and music from my files) to cd. The sound quality it's also great. You can play cd's from a 3 cd changer and make analog or digital copies. I really, really recomend it. I'm happy to have it

Summary: Don't bother with this one !!!!!
Review: I have had the same problem with this unit. Loading mechanism malfunctions. Pioneer was no help. That's why they are slipping. They used to make great, reliable stereo equipment. Not anymore! Their customer service dept. stinks! This unit is noisy, records poorly and is not worth the money. STAY AWAY TILL PIONEER WAKES UP!

Summary: good, but not great
Review: I have had this for about one year, and it has only one mechanical flaw - an occasional failure to shut down after finalizing (I just turn off the unit for a second - then it's ok). GOOD POINTS: the skip ID is invaluable for getting rid of mistakes recorded on CD-Rs; the volume control has a wide range and a knob (far superior to the Phillips model it replaced); the program mode is moderately easy to use and greatly speeds up making mix CDs; excellent data readouts. BAD POINTS: disc changers are clunky and the unit is constantly trying to read the discs when you're doing something else (if you buy it, you'll know what I mean); the button labels on the front panel are microprinted in red (I had to put my own labels on them); the remote is tiny and packed with controls for putting labels on the CD-Rs, so it's not easy to use (and vertically symmetrical so you can't use it in low illumination, or else); max recording speed is 2x.

Summary: PD-RW739 PIONEER RECORDER
Review: I have had this recorder for several months now. I have not had a problem. Recording CD's and the disc drawers work great.
I bought it on-line it was shipped from 6 states away by USPS.
I am very happy with it's performance.

Summary: To Pioneer, or not to Pioneer...
Review: I saw that this unit has problems with the 3Disc changer. At the store, the display model broke in front of my eyes. The changer drawers would not open. We opened a new box and the drawers did not break, but they had a mind of their own. I seemed to look past this for the most part. I went home with a third unit that was also unopened. My unit seems to be ok so far. Fortunately I know the guy that I bought this from and he is letting me exchange it for the philips 785, now that I have read reviews that confirm that these models have EXTREMELY quirky changers. just be careful.
