Summary: Minor drawback but a GREAT PRODUCT!
Review: An earlier reviewer was right: if the disc track you are copying isn't followed by at least 2 seconds of silence, the CD-Recorder thinks it's still the same track. You have to manually program the track change as it occurs. Inconvenient, but not a deal-breaker. The instruction manual is thorough and easy to understand. The best way to record from CD to CD-R(or CD-RW) is with the aid of optical cables, and they are PRICEY! But high quality RCA jacks (like Monster Cable) do an excellent job as well, and for about 1/4 the price. I bought mine as a returned "Open Box" item at a major electronics retailer, but it was otherwise untouched. So I got my ... player for about [price]!!!!!! Best money I ever spent! I'm transferring concert VHS tapes to CD, and they sound fabulous! I can't even imagine ever using cassette tapes again now that I have a CD player in the car. You can buy software kits to make custom labels and inserts for your CD's. Arts and crafts for the techies! Many other CD Recorder/Rewriters will be more expensive, but most of what you'd be paying for is extra bells and whistles. This Pioneer unit is all you need, and it is excellent!

Review: I bought this recorder from Amazon.com last November, and I'd have to say that I absolutely love it! Reguardless of what you have read, this machine will make a copy of a copy if you run it through the analog source. The machine also makes a great CD player also. It is easily set up, easy to use, and well worth the money.Believe me you won't find a better price anywhere else. I am very satisfied with my purchase and I would reccommend this to anyone.

Review: I finally just ordered my own after using a friends for a few months. This unit provides excellent clear and simple recording through an rca jack (analog), or an optical cable (digital) the unit will let you make one recording of (scms compliant)cds digitally, after that it blocks recording. This is to protect the recording industry from unlimited digital piracy and it seems to work. Aside from that though you are free to dub anything to cd you see fit ie...original recordings or back up copies of any old audio you have from eight tracks to minidiscs. I used the unit for roughly 3 months and it was rock solid. The unit feels well made and is bargain priced for the technology it offers. Blank audio cds are cheap now as well. I can't wait for mine to arrive in that brown amazon box. :)

Summary: not bad for my first CD-R
Review: I had been making mix tapes since the days when Jesus was a cowboy and I recently decided to give the world of CD-R a try. I bought this recorder about a month ago and my only major complaint so far is that many of the function buttons are only on the remote control and not on the recorder itself. Also, the layout of the buttons on the remote could have been designed more effectively. The seemingly random arrangement and the lack of varied size/shape of the buttons makes it difficult to distinguish one from another.This recorder has two Recording Level control dials: one for digital source and the other for analog. The digital dial clicks into preset notches when rotated while the analog dial rotates smoothly. I don't like the notches because they make fading in/out difficult. The analog dial does the job but it lacks the smoothness and comfort of the Rec Level dials on cassette recorders. Overall, I am content with this CD recorder. The price isn't bad, either. I would probably recommend this to most people (unless you are an audiophile) who want to give CD-R a try.

Summary: Excellent buy! Excellent price!
Review: I recently purchased the Pioneer PD-R509. At that price how could I not. I was immediately impressed after I read the instrctions. I just went to it. I would recommend using a CD-RW at first to get used to which buttons do what. Like fading in/out sychro dubbing etc. Through any anolog source you can copy anything. I have copied all my albums on CD and some tapes I had that were out of print. If I wanted to I could record the Oprah Winfrey show on CD (audio only). The sound reproduction is excellent. I have recorded 40+ cd's and never had one mess up. I used the TDK music cd-r and cd-rw's. I could not be more impressed with this system and I would recommed it to anyone and everyone who is tired of coying their favorite music on cassette. Putting it on cd is easier with the Pioneer PD-R509

Review: In my brief experience with the pioneer 509, (I returned it after a week), I was very satisfied with the record quality. I couldn't tell the difference between the recorded cd and the original cd. However, since my receiver doesn't have a digital/optical output, I hooked it up to my DVD player and found a major drawback. The DVD player doesn't recognize track changes unless there is a break of 2 seconds or longer between tracks on the original cd. Therefore, you have to manually change the track after every song or the entire cd will be recorded as track one. This is very inconvenient, you have to sit there for the length of the cd to change the tracks. I would recommend this recorder to anyone who has a digital receiver, otherwise shop around.

Summary: The Death-Blow to Cassette Recording!
Review: This is a fantastic machine! After a little practice (the first couple of CDs I copied were not so hot), I am now able to make copies from any source. Whether I want a clean reproduction of my favorite vinyl records or copy from cassette, I can connect any component to the Pioneer PD-R509, and presto! The CD copies are always just as crisp and clean as the original source. Nothing is ever lost or diminished. The price was a definite help in deciding to purchase this unit, a steal! The best blank CDs to use are Memorex. Beware of the 80 minute ones, though, they sometimes end up not playing. Stick to the 74 minute CDs, I have not ever had a problem with those. This is the most thrilling invention since the cassette recorder, I love it!
