Summary: Great camera for active types
Review: Compared Pentax to Nikon and Cannon prior to purchase. Fell in love with the size and weight of this Pentax. New to photography, wanted something to both learn on and to take 'automatic' pictures. This camera works great for both of these tasks. Took to Jackson, Wyoming and used while snowmobiling through Yellowstone, and dog sledding. Took great shots, and the panoramic mode came in handy. Have also used camera to shoot my sister in-law during her high school basketball games and the autopicture and predictive autofocus produced nice shots.

Summary: Great Camera!
Review: I actually own the Canadian version of this camera, the MZ-7. As far as I know, it's identical. The reason this camera is so great is that you can have as little or as much control as you want. Set it to autofocus and AutoPict and it will, of course, focus itself, but also determine what type of shot you're trying to take and will set appropriate shutter speeds and f/stops. For example, if you're going for a portrait look, the camera will pick a quick shutter speed and a large aperature to make sure the background is nice and soft, but the subject is crystal clear. It's usually correct as to the type of picture you're taking.

My only gripe is that when it gets the type wrong, you'll get some weird settings. I've found that if I point the camera away, focus, then bring it back to the subject, sometimes the camera will pick the correct settings. Other times you may have to just set the thing for aperature priority and do it manually. Also, if the lighting conditions aren't ideal, the autofocus will flip out and you'll have to do it manually.

Those gripes are more just my own nitpicking than true problems with the camera. I'd definately recommend it to anyone. It makes a great camera for amatuers/enthusiasts, and even beginners! It's so simple to take good pictures that you need little if any previous SLR experience. But when you're ready to start playing with depth of field and other fancy stuff, this camera will lead you right into it.

Summary: A Great Camera
Review: I have had this camera for almost 3 years now. In this time I have taken shots in a variety of settings and each time it has surprised me with amazing pics. The Auto mode is very good and usually good except in low light (twilight kind of situations). Auto focus is reasonable again except in very low light where you may need to use manual focus. Overall the Pentax Body and Pentax lens very good. You may want to buy an additional lens for telephoto requirements.

Summary: I love this nice camera!!
Review: I have owned this camera since last Christmas. It's very convenient and easy to use and picture quality is great. I have taken more than 7 rolls and have no complaint. I really like its auto mode. In particular, I was so impressed by its "night power". I went to Las Vegas and took some nice night scenens without flash. The result was more than amazing. My friend told me that the pictures looked like post cards.

One negative point is that batteries died very quickly. I don't know, however, if those that came with the camera were cheap ones. Anyway, I had to buy new ones in 4 months.

Overall, this is definitely worth getting and I am sure you will love it!!

Summary: wonderful
Review: I'm a beginner in photographry, and this camera has been wonderful. I've taken some beautiful shots (sometimes thanks to the helpful autofocus) and I've learned the beauty of shutter speed techniques. I definately recommend this camera. It's worth every penny.

Summary: Great camera!!
Review: The Pentax ZX-7 takes most of the guesswork out of taking pictures with its autofocus system. It focuses right on your subject without you fiddling with focus in the manual mode. For someone like me, however, fiddling with focus is what I live for. It makes that fun too. The 28-80 lens is great for closeups and far aways too. The built-in pop up flash is convenient too. The weight is not too heavy either so you don't feel weighed down. It also takes most K-mount lenses (I had an old Ricoh using K-mount lenses and the Pentax uses them as well, so if you do your homework, thats a bonus as well if you have K-mount lenses than to buy new ones). It also has a hotshoe to use an external flash as well. Talk about a complete package in one. The Pentax ZX-7 is it -- you cant go wrong!
