Review: After purchasing the FZ158BK 5 cd changer and returning it because it didn't come with a remote control, I decided to try the next model up. The FZ258BK is very easy to use and the sound is very clean and tight. I have purchased other JVC brand audio/video equipment and this item was definitely worth the money. It is an excellent addition to our component system and would highly recommend it.

Summary: Unreliable.
Review: I am very sorry I previously wrote a favorable review of this product. I have had nothing but troubles with mine, and I have had mine replaced by JVC TWICE, each AFTER they were sent in for repairs, but were not really repaired. My brother's also has troubles, but he has decided to live with it, given the fact that JVC has not been able to give me one that actually works properly. Yes, it plays the CDs, but most of the time, when I turn it on, the door opens on its own, and the carousel turns, and then the door closes again. During that time, it will not accept any commands. The second one had a more serious problem with the disc exchange feature. I WILL NEVER BUY A JVC PRODUCT AGAIN. Given my experience with 4 new, factory sealed players, ALL of which were defective, and given the fact that they were unable to actually repair anything when they attempted to do so, I think they must be the worst company I have ever had the misfortune of doing business with. Do not buy this.

Review: I bought this JVC because of the compulink system and previous reliability of JVC products. Initially, it functioned very well, but then it would never "power-up". I remved the cover to find CDs had become dislodged from the circular container. On removing these, the machine worked again, - for about a week. Again, the same problem. As the machine is never knocked (it is in an audio furniture display) I have no idea how the CDs repeatedly become dislodged. The last episode was the worst as a CD has become so dislodged it is not possible to retrieve it. The machine will not now work at all, and the cost of repair is not worth it so I will have to buy another machine, but one without this complicated circular storage system which evidently has some errors in the design.

Summary: nice ergonomics, nice price
Review: If you want a high quality, easy to use 5-CD changer, you can't go wrong here. Front panel is comprehensive yet easy to use. An excellent choice if you want to upgrade from a single CD player (put in 5 CDs and press "random" and you will be all set). If you're building a DVD library as well and have some extra money to spend, consider investing in Onkyo's 5 DVD/CD changer. Otherwise get this.

Summary: For the money, this is the one I'd buy.
Review: The JVC XL-FZ258BK has a decent array of features, considering its price. Many inexpensive CD players that have a remote do not have the features accessible from the front panel, which is very bad if you ever lose your remote (or it just needs new batteries). This CD player has the controls you need on the front panel (as well as the remote), and they are large enough and spaced well enough for them to not be annoying.

True, the Technics SL-PD8 has more features for the money, but ergonomically it is undesirable (see my review of it for more).

In short, it has enough features to satisfy most people, and the controls are better than most (all that I know of) in its price point. If you have significantly more money to spend, then I would suggest something better, but I do not think you can get anything better for this price.

And the sound quality is fine, of course.

Summary: piece of junk
Review: This cd player skips or jumps on brand new cd's. God forbid put one with a few microparticles of lint or a thumbnail scratch in it. Biggest waste of money I've ever spent on Amazon!

Summary: Unreliable.
Review: This CD player takes the cake! It was the only one that played all my scratched CDs -- I took them to Circuit City and tested almost every player in the store and this was the ONLY one that passed through the skips!

Everything else about it is great -- you can't go wrong for under $150.
