Review: I am a retired person living in an appartment and needed a new CD/tape player. After much searching I settled on this Panasonic bookshelf system. When I got the productm it was very easy to install and the operating instructing where very adequate. The sound quality is very good and there are enough options to set the sound balance to satisfy to most selctive. I feel this system is a very good quality for the price.

Summary: Not bad for the money
Review: I bought the Panasonic SC PM 18 from a local "big box store" for about 30 USD less than I could find it on the net. This was the only bookshelf unit available with a five disc changer that didn't look like it was made from Darth Vader's old helmets or belong in the back room at a biker bar and sounded decent.You need the remote for most of the advanced functions, so I attached it to the top of the changer with some velcro so I could find it when I needed it. I needed a decent sounding setup that looked decent equipped with a five disc changer for my vacation place "up north"; I got what I wanted and expected for the price.

Review: I bought this stereo overseas, and was blown away by the clarity of sound. I liked the sophisticated appearance (no piling on of plastic and such) and easy-to-read display. When I shipped the unit home, the USPS managed to wreck it, and by that time the model was out of production. I spent months looking for another one, and finally found it, only to realize how much I missed the powerful sound and clean lines--all the newer micro system models looked cheap and gaudy in comparison. No system is perfect--if you only listen to hip-hop or bass heavy music, this probably isn't the system for you. But if you like guitar rock, pop, or jazz, this system does an amazing job. The design is the best around, and the cd changer is relatively quiet compared to other models. The only question I would ask Panasonic is about the tape function--do they even sell cassettes anymore? Hmmm. I bought this item twice and would buy it again any day.

Summary: Panasonic SC-PM28 Executive Microsystem- A Little Ripper
Review: I purchased this system recently, and I am more than happy with it. I previously had a micro system which had quite poor sound quality when playing classical music. No problem with this system, every type of music sounds great, crystal clear.
I also quite like to look of the system, it's a little different to many others around and is the better for it.
It's easy to use, you can change CD's while still playing them, and my favourite is the sleep timer. It also has a demo function for those that aren't to good with electronic things, it shows you what it can do.
I would highly recomend this system to anyone looking for good sound quality and good looks at an affordable price.

Summary: Just what I needed
Review: I wanted something small. This stereo is a great size. I am very happy with this stereo. I'm move about once a year and I was sick of lugging my old stereo around. It works well with my phono and other auxilary inputs. Great sound quality at low levels (a very rare quality). The unit is programmed fairly well. The display has a dim setting so It's not intrusive. And there is no annoying animation trying to make it look fancy. I caution anyone who is technologically challeged that there is a bit of learning involved in using the features like the alarm. Everytime I set the alarm I have to refer to the maual. Drawbacks
-AM radio barely works. I get only two stations.
-The buttons on the main unit are a little confusing. ff/rw, track<< >>, album<< >>. It takes getting used to
-With MP3s you cannot scan tracks. If you have a long song and just want to hear the end, you have to wait. This is common for MP3/CD players however so it's to be expected.
-As far as I know, you are stuck with the 2 speakers and cable lengths they give you because it's a special bi-amp cable setup. The 2 speakers and lengths are great for me but maybe not for others.
-Another common problem with steros these days is lack of Balance Left and Right controls. The EQ presets, however, are fairly good and I don't really miss controlling the levels myself. As a whole I am impressed with this unit. I am very critical of the user friendliness of technology and this gets high marks despite how complicated it is. It's attractive and all my friends are impressed with it. If you want a good solid stero with a lot of features, go for it.

Summary: Sound clarity very good, but needs more bass
Review: I'll agree with some of the reviews above. I bought it because it has a lot of nice features for the price and doesn't look like the prize possesion of a teenage metalhead. I can't detect any distortion at all at any reasonable volume, but the sound does lack some fullness. A bass-boost feature like many small stereos have now would have helped a lot, but maybe the speakers couldn't handle it.

Summary: decent sound but not great
Review: OK - I hate to say it... but you get what you pay for. I paid $$$ for mine from [local store] in Burnsville MN. The sound from my Panasonic SC-PM28 bookshelf stereo just isn't as robust and full as other bookshelf systems I have heard. The sound is OK... good clarity in upper and middle tones but the bass is on the weak side. Listening to vocal music the system sounds fine, but get into more complex music such as classical and the sound is a little flat - almost like the system can't deliver the full richness and complete range from low bass to high. Other disappointment is you cannot put different speakers on this system. Salesman told me it would wreck both the stereo and the better quality speakers. If you are on a budget and really can't spend more than $$$ this is a good system... but if you can afford it, you will be more satisfied with something that has better quality speakers.

Summary: Worth the price, but...
Review: Ok, so I bought my SC-PM28 a week ago and I just have to tell it' perfect. Worth the money. Design is awesome, with a bunch of tiny details. Many usefull functions (like text searching in mp3 titles). But it has 2 "first-time bugs" and one "life-time bug". First, it can't search in mp3/wma files, e.g. Fast Forward and Rewind. But trust me, you will only miss this feature the first few days when you will play with the system :). Second, the lower frequencies of the sound are not-so-good the first time you play some music. But human ear is very sensitive and after a few days of intensive listening you will notice that the sound is perfect. And if you are really a bass freak :) then put the system in one corner of room and sit down in an opposite corner and you have an instant "virtual subwoofer". But anyway, as mentioned above, the system is lacking a bass boost feature. I've connected it to my PC (Audigy 2 soundcard) and the sound is perfect. Speakers CAN handle the bass frequencies well.
And third, when you power on or off the system with some cd's in you will notice that it's quite noisy. So for a decent wake up with a radio, get all cd's out the night before :) I will not tell you "BUY IT!" 'cos it's on you to decide, BUT I LOVE IT!
