Summary: All the Way!!!!!!!
Review: I just recently acquired my Maxxum 5. (14 Nov 2003) and I already took some indoors pictures with it using an ISO 100. I was impressed with the clarity and sharpness of the outcome. I am pretty sure If I was using an ISO 400 it would have come out much better!!!!
The features of the camera are very clear to understand, and it is like with any other item we use, once one gets used to the different buttons and its applications, the rest of it is so easy and fun. The autofocus feature and its sensors are very impressive. It is a very light/and thin camera which it feels much better than other bulky/heavy cameras I have used before. The manual explains the features with a distinct detail and on terms anyone can understand. Congrats Minolta!!!!!!

Review: I love it! I shopped around for about 6 months before deciding on this camera, and I am confident I made the right decision. In comparing this cameras features and price to comparable models (Canon, Nikon, etc.) it's a sure winner. It was even recommended to me by the employees of actual camera shops, not big box stores (with teenagers trying to tell me they've been photographers for years, yet couldn't explain any of the features). You can't go wrong with this one!

Summary: Minolta Maxxum 5
Review: I love this camera. It's very light, easy to use but yet gives you lots of manual options. I love the autofocus which is actived when you put your eye up to the viewfinder. The factory lens is pretty good. On a number of occasions having perfect strangers take our pictures have yielded very decent photos. I like this much better than the Nikon N65 which I felt was cumbersome to use and produced noticably inferior pictures in my hands. I also like the fact that I can carry this camera and a canon ZR 10 video all day without fatigue.

Summary: automatic does not beat manual
Review: I purchased this camera and was totally unimpressed. I bought this camera for its automatic features. The camera feels [inexpensive], but then so do most cameras these days. I have taken five rolls with this camera and the pictures don't look any better then the pictures produced by my wife's [inexpensive] pocket camera. I still own an old manual Pentax K1000 which blows this camera away. The automatic focusing on this camera is useless at night and the autofocus is not that sharp when there is adequate lighting. To my surprise many of the pictures were over-exposed when I had it on automatic. I was very disappointed. I'm sticking with my old reliable friend.

Summary: MAXXUM 5 (an english viewpoint)
Review: I read many magazines back in the U.K. e.g. What camera? and was impressed by the reviews. I was travelling to the U.S.A. for six months & I only wanted to carry one lens so I found a deal to purchase a Dynax 5(u.k. name) with a Tamron 28-200mm lens.What a fabulous combination.
This is my first SLR and you can use it straight out of the box as a point & shoot. Picture quality is very impressive,so much so that it will flatter you. The more experienced and confident you get you can delve into the cameras more 'creative'
modes.
All in all,if this is your first 'proper' camera,have no fear.
Downsides? Low light shots can sometimes be disappointing in auto mode,i.e.under or overexposed.Along with a lot of cameras of this type (lightweight,compact SLRs) it uses 2xCR2 batteries which have a shortish lifespan if you are using auto-modes & flash a lot.
Otherwise, buy a polarizing lens,a tripod (and spare batteries!) and enjoy!

Summary: Great Camera, Great Price
Review: I received this camera just after Christmas, and I have run a few rolls of film through it. ALl I can say is that except for user error, all my pictures have come out crisp, clear, and perfect. I even tried black and white film, and the photos are awesome.
This camera is simple to learn, and and almost everything on it comes with custom settings.....so you can change it to suit you.
There are still a few things I haven't played with yet.....lack of opportunity only. This is not a camera for absolute beginners, but people who have used SLR cameras before will find this a positive addition to their collection. Good first "serious" camera for amateur but somewhat experienced photographers.The only thing about it that I didn't like, was how easily the flash pops up if you catch it on a sleeve or coat. Would advise investing in a good camera case.

Review: I researched for cameras for over 2 monts. I was deciding between the Nikon n65, pentax ZX-60, and the Canon rebel 2000. I found this one to clearly be the best of the 4. For one it had a metal lens mount unlike, the canon rebel and pentax zx-60. Its better than the n65 because it has manual ISO setting, higher max. shutter speed, and higher flash synch. For these reasons and more I decided to get the Minolta Maxxum 5. To top this off it also has a great line of lenses. All this at an amazing lw price of 300 dollars.

Summary: Minolta Maxxum 5 Is Great!
Review: I researched the various SLR cameras available on the market and Minolta offered the most features for the price. The size and weight also felt right for my grip. I have never owned anything but an inexpensive point and shoot camera. When I started using the camera I was a little intimdated by all the bells and whistles but after taking near professional quality pictures at a baseball tournament in San Diego I was sold on this camera. I was able within 2-3 rolls to take pictures of the baseball players sliding into a base, the pitched baseball in the air on the way to the batter, etc. I couldn't believe how easy it was to use and the quality of my pictures with no training. I did read the owners manual several times and it helped me get better with each roll of film. Buy this camera - you cannot go wrong!!

Review: I went from a Nikon D!00 back to film, and after looking into the new film cameras. You cannot beat the features of this camera for the money!!

Review: I've always enjoyed the Minolta system of cameras and thought I'd check this one out. Overall, it's easy to use and the AF system is spot on. The only criticism I have is that the functions are not always easy to figure out and I have had problems taking a photo and the camera doesn't want to. My manual X700 runs great, too.
