Summary: awsome camera
Review: Before i purchased this camera six months ago i did A LOT of comparison shopping online. I ended up with the maxxum 5 because of two primary reasons, both of wich have proven true since my purchase. One, for the money, i couldnt find a SLR with better statistics. Two, minolta has a great reputation for user friendly cameras. Non photographers like myself can dabble in real photography and still have the option of also using the camera in fully atomatic mode. It can take three pictures per second, it has a really fast autofocus system, it has a all the great little bonuses like multiple exposure, depth of field preview, red eye reduction, an plenty more.
I highly recommend this camera in the $200-$450 range. Unless your looking for something alot smaller or you're a professional that wants something to take super highspeed photographs or pictures of the sun or something, you'll love this camera.
Side note- the first one i bought wouldnt work. It started heating up when i put the battteries in and wouldnt turn off. I went back to the store and exchanged it. It was no problem for me but then i diddn't have to deal with shipping.

Summary: Not great for the price....
Review: Bought this camera for my Bahamas vacation hoping for something better than you get from point and shoot - and didn't get it! The lens was not strong enough for some of the close ups I wanted, pictures in the dark came out blurry eventhough I used 800 film and a flash extension. The camera was easy to use, but so is the point and shoot and I feel like that's the kind of quality I got. I will be exploring this camera's other options, but my first impression - its just OK.

Summary: Budding Star
Review: I am a amateur. Though i dont know much about cameras, I just got it because it was cheap( a wrong move????) but so far i am very happy about its over all performance. I tried shooting few rolls. with uv filter/polorizer. the closeups are good really good and sunrise and sunset pictures are dramatic but long shots are not so good and i am not satisfied may be it will be good if i add a telephoto lens.

Summary: Great camera
Review: I bought the Maxxum 5 couple weeks ago. It is a great camera with lots of features that easy to use. The manual is easy to understand. I was amazed by the first roll. The photos were sharp and crystal clear. If consider buying a SLR, this is the one you may want to put on top of your list.

Summary: Best purchase I've made in awhile
Review: I bought this camera so I could take some pics of the kids and I was really happy with the pics I got. I used a variety of film speeds and the picture Quality was superb! It will need a better flash for alot of indoor shots if you keep them dim. Can't really fault it for that though, flashes are available.
Five stares for me!

Summary: Excellent Choice Made!
Review: I got my first roll of film developed and I am very impressed with them. They all came out sharp, colorful and correct lighting and best of all no red eyes!

I am also very satisfied with the built in flash that the Minolta Maxxum has. I thought I would need to buy an additional flash, but not so. I took several pictures in my house with low lighting and the whole picture came out bright unlike some cameras that only whiten the face of the person and the background is dark. This camera/flash does not wash out a person's skin tones, they appear natural. I have now noticed that my other pictures taken previously to owning this camera made everyone look like ghosts!

This camera is very easy to use, although I have not experimented with all the features yet. The automatic focus is extremely fast which I need to capture those special moments of my two children.

Before purchasing this camera I was using a point and shoot Olympus but it broke. I occasionally used my manual Vivitar but find it very annoying to use for everyday because of the focusing. Now I have both cameras in one which is great and my pictures will be all on one roll.

This is a great camera at an excellent price with many, many features. The only thing I would like to purchase for this camera is a 70-210 or 75-300 lense.

You will not be disappointed!!

Summary: New Owner
Review: I have had the Maxxum 5 for about a month. Excellent photos. Almost too easy to use. I look forward to shooting more things with it. The camera is so versatile, I can't imagine many limits. I definiteley recommend it if you are interested in a great camera to shoot a variety of subjects (athletics to macro portraits).

Summary: Great SLR Camera
Review: I have read all of the reviews here and am amazed at the kudos. One thing I have not seen mentioned too often is the quality of the photographs that the Maxxum produces.

I just developed 54 rolls of film from this camera and a couple from cheap pocket cameras -- you CANNOT tell the difference in picture quality! I made a HUGE mistake in not developing any pictures immediately (seven months ago) and now I'm stuck with this camera that takes AWFUL pictures -- my fault entirely, however, I mistakenly trusted the brand name.

The bells and whistles on the camera mean NOTHING if it doesn't produce high quality photographs. ... I figured I would get at least a semi-professional photograph. I owned a Canon Rebel 2000 prior to this camera and could just kick myself for getting rid of it. The quality of the photographs with the Canon blow the Maxxum away!

If it's bells and whistles you want, buy the Maxuum. If it's crisp, colorful pictures you want -- look elsewhere!

Summary: light and easy to use
Review: I just got it one week ago. I am not professional person and I only took one roll of pictures ( the other two are developing). So I can't say more about the camera. Anyway the first thing is that the camera is really not so big as I expected and not so heavy. Every person who saw it and tried it said"Oh, it is so light!". So it is easy for a novice especially a woman to hold it firmly when take a picture. Another thing I felt good is that it is very easy to use for a novice even if you use manul focus. You can take a picture of a very close subject or very far easily. I think the lense of 20-80 is enough to a novice.
But I just feel that it will be better if it was sold with a case.Another thing is that the description of the camera in this website is not so comprehensive. I want to buy a camera with the function of panorama and pop-up flash. But I couldn't find the exact information. Anyway I was satisfied with the other features of the camera. So I bought it. When I got it, I found it doesn't have a panorama function, but the built-in flash is a pop-up flash.
