Summary: Adequate Cannon reliability
Review: After much homework and shopping around, I selected this camera because of the Cannon reputation and because it was on sale for a good price. It's a nice camera for the price, but two things disappointed me. First, the manual claims the camera has a slow-sync flash setting, but does not explain how to find or use it. The camera itself has no such setting and after examing the manual word by word, I had to call customer service for help. I believe the manual misleads the owner by suggesting the camera has slow-sync flash, when in fact it does not have a true slow-sync (night) setting as I've seen on other cameras, especially APS cameras. The supposed "slow-sync" setting on this camera is actually the timer mode which is very unstable and unreliable as a slow sync flash. Until Cannon developes a better slow-sync for this mid range point and shoot, it will be outsold by other brands that have refined the true slow-sync flash. A disappointment for a trusted brand. I also thought the body could have a better designed grip for holding the camera steadier, much like the earlier, tried and true sure shot models. Other than that, the camera still takes excellent "Cannon quality" photographs.

Summary: Great Little Camera
Review: Had a cheap Kodak camera before this one .... I saw my aunts pictures used with her canon sure shot 105 and I knew I had to get one! Sharp, clear, beautiful pictures!! The only draw back is waiting between pictures. Can't take rapid pictures one after another. This is a great camera for family pictures which I use it for. Wonderfully priced! Can't go wrong!

Summary: well done
Review: I am in photography class with anouther camera, but I assure you that this is a good deal for all the things you get. I think it would be great for portable use too. It always gave me what I needed with nothing complicated. I like this camera very much.

Summary: sure shot not so sure
Review: I bought a Canon Sureshot (I too thought Canon would be a good bet) and unfortunately, waited over a month to use it. After using it 3 or 4 times, the camera went on the blink for no reason. It just stopped working and would flash a mysterious "H". Still under warranty, I took it to a repair shop, which said they fixed the "O" ring on it. Well, after using it a couple of more times, it stopped working again. At this point, I decided there was something defective about the camera and I just wanted my money back. I could not return it to the store I bought it at as it only had a 30 day return policy. So, I sent it directly to Canon with a letter explaining my problem. Canon said that it did not give refunds and wouldn't even send me a replacement. They assured me they would fix the problem for free (as the warranty states) but then they tried to charge me $80 for it (even though it fell well within the 1 year warranty period and I had only used it for 4 or 5 rolls of film). After much hassle, they finally returned it free of charge and told me they had fixed it. Well, it worked for about 5 more rolls of film before it stopped working again, only this time, I was in the middle of a several month trip in South America. I ended up discarding the damn thing and then had to fork over a fortune for a cheap 35 mm in Ecuador.

In addition, when the camera did work, it didn't seem to work all that well either. There was too much lag time between trying to take the picture and the camera actually taking the shot and the flash was constantly going off- even in broad day light.

So, the camera sucked and Canon's response was even worse, which is why I will never consider buying another one of their products again.

Summary: A good little workhorse.
Review: I got my first Canon 105 about 3 years ago. Right from the start it delivered sharp clear photos, excellent colour balance and good lights and darks. The composition was always spot on - ie no cropped heads due to misaligned viewfinder. I would take panoramics, people shots, close up animal shots, artistic still-lifes, and abstract closeup plant shots. I took over 100 rolls of film; and took it all over with me, across Europe, America. From dull situations to bright Arizona deserts; it always came out true. I unfortunately got sand in the camera when I took it to Italy; and as a result jammed the lens. I took it in to repair at our local shop but they lost it when it was sent away. I was offered the Yashica 140 as a replacement, and tried it out this weekend. No comparison. The viewfinder in the Yashica was too small; it wouldn't allow me to get too close in my shots to the subject thus compromising the composition I wanted, and when I got the film back; not one of the images was good. Blurry; completely smudged and unrecognisable, some of them; others, which I know would have worked on my Canon, came out either too contrasty, not enough definition in the various areas. Even straightforward shots of my cat sitting still came out out of focus! So much for its more advanced and intelligent focus system... it would be nice if it could get the images in focus in the first place. I rang the shop and told them I want a replacement Canon 105. The only gripe I have (and it's a petty one), is the dial method of selecting the options, but it's not as fiddly as trying to get that Yashica's back open to load a film!

For a camera that takes excellent photographs that are good enough to enlarge and make an artistic statement, or for family gatherings or mementoes of the pets, personal or semi-professional; the Canon 105 is for me.

Summary: When it works, it works great...
Review: I got this camera as a gift from my parents, and was delighted to find that for what it is, it worked quite well. It's not a $... SLR camera, mind you, but the pictures turned out nicely; very crisp. About a year after I had it, I too got the Flashing "H" of Doom. I followed the instructions in the owner's manual to no avail, fiddled with it, and finally resorted to the internet to find out if other people have had the same problem. From what I've read, it's not worth fixing due to the cost of repairs and the fact that it usually breaks again shortly afterwards. I'm going to save the $...+ it would cost me to repair it and put it towards something nicer.
I would recommend people avoid this camera and purchase something more reliable.

Summary: Built to last
Review: I have had my Sure Shot 105Zoom for aboutt 5 years now and have been extremely happy with it, especially since it has been used and abused in that time. The quirky delay when taking pictures is the only reason I gave it 4 stars. It was weird at first, causing some of my pictures to be blurry or completely messed up... but once I got used to it I never had a problem. I never used the red-eye feature so I can't comment on that. I pretty much always use the green "Auto" selection and have never had red eyes in any of my pictures.

The only reason I am looking around for something new now is that it seems through old age and heavy usage, it's starting to go through batteries pretty quickly. Pictures still turn out great though, and I just have to make sure I have a spare battery in my case. I can't say enough about this camera, it has definately served me well. I'll definately purchase something new in the same "family" of cameras!
