Rating: Summary: A lemon I guess Review: Bought this a year ago and nothing but trouble. It was overexposing and the photos with flash were overly white. Took it in to be fixed under warranty and it's better but still not that great. Looking for a new camera now...will look elsewhere.
Rating: Summary: Out of Focus Review: Bought this as a gift for the wife and shot one role. The pictures are improperly focused (meaning the pictured was framed properly with subject in the center yet still fuzzy) and the flash is horrible. You can see clear shadows in the background where the flash hit and where it stopped. The cheap disposable at the corner store takes better pictures. Sorry....
Rating: Summary: Best Buy Review: Consumer Reports rated this a best buy, so I bought one. It's dependable, compact, lightweight and takes great pictures with a minimum of fuss! What more could an amateur photographer ask for in a good vacation camera? The Sure Shot is a sure bet.
Rating: Summary: It's More Than A Best Buy Review: Consumer Reports rated this camera as very good overall with excellent picture quality and a strong flash range, and for its price they named it a "best buy"; the only one of the compact camera category. This camera has survived three years of heavy abuse without one problem. I use 400 speed film, and have my film developed at a drug store, and they always turn out beautifully. The zoom is more than enough for everyday shots and red eyes are a rarity. This really is a gem.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Camera, Great Price Review: great image quality. The battery lasts forever, and the camera its not too heavy. I have taken GREAT pictures with this Camera.
Rating: Summary: Canon Is The Best! Review: I am a 13 year old girl who knows minimal information about cameras. I spent hours on the internet researching to find an excellent camera for my purposes. I found about 3 cameras that are similar to this one, but the Canon Sure Shot 85 Zoom was the only camera that was in my price range, and had all of the desired features. I decided to purchase this camera, and to try it out. I took the camera to one of my friends houses, and I did a test roll. I took all types of pictures; light w/flash, light w/out flash, outdoor, real time (a feature that lets you take crisp action shots), self-timer (my favorite feature), and normal auto and auto with red-eye reduction. Then, I took the photos to be developed.I couldn't have been more pleased with the results! All of my pictures turned out wonderfully! The pictures were perfectly lit, they were crisp, and the indoor shots were great too. My real time shots would have turned out much better if I would have used a 400 speed film (like the manual suggested), rather then an 800. I only found one negative thing about this camera. For the red-eye to work properly, you need to look DIRECTLY at the camera, and this feature doesn't work well in self-timer mode. Also, I noticed that when the red-eye does work, it only works on those subjects with dark eyes. I would recomend this camera to anyone who wants wonderful pictures. It is a great deal for the money, and it takes excellent photos.
Rating: Summary: Great little camera...but Review: I bought this as a birthday gift for my daughter (age 21) about 8 months ago. She is actually a knowledgeable photographer having taken photography courses in school, but wanted a simple point-and-shoot that she could use without having to think about f-stops and shutter speeds. As I am also a photography fan since my mis-spent youth, its common ground for us, and I get to see all of her pictures.I have to say that the camera has far exceeded both our expectations. It does a very respectable job under a variety of conditions and produces sharp, well-focused, consistent photos. It is simple to use and the zoom lens is terrific. We have not seen the flash problems that some of the other reviewers have reported. The only difficulty she has had with it is the pause between pressing the shutter button and the camera actually shooting, but that is overcome by using "real-time" mode whenever red-eye reduction is not an issue. But I think perhaps the best feature of this camera is its portability. It is so small and light (and the lens retracts into the body and covers up when the power is turned off) that she is able to keep it in her pocketbook at all times. Whenever life presents her with one of those "Gee I wish I had a camera" moments, she does! If you're looking for something inexpensive and durable enough so that you can keep it with you, and that you can use without too much thinking, this is a good bet. ***Update 10/02*** Just 3 weeks before the 1-year warranty would have expired, the camera developed a serious problem with it's autofocus. We called the Canon 800 number and were referred to a local authorized repair center to whom we brought it. They called after a week and told us that they would have to send it to Canon and that there would be a $10 service charge. That was about a week ago. Even though the situation is not yet resolved, I thought it was important to post this update, since I've seen exactly this same problem reported in several of the other reviews here. The camera was not heavily used nor was it abused in the year that my daughter owned it. I am reducing my rating to 4-stars because of this. I will update again when we get the camera back from Canon.
Rating: Summary: Not to impressed Review: I bought this camera based on some of the reviews listed on Amazon. I took some pictures and they really weren't that good. About half of them were clear and the other half kind of blurry. The colors were not bright either. I expected better from Canon. I'm not new to point and shoot camera's. I've had a Olympus and Nikon; and I never had this problem. Although the Olympus and Nikon were priced in the [price] range. I guess you get what you pay for.
Rating: Summary: well done, but doesn't have the battery saving auto off Review: I bought this camera for my Mom and she loves it. She's 80 years old and love to take candid family shots. The Canon film loads easily and the auto advance is great too.
