Rating: Summary: Great Receiver for a great price Review: I have owned this receiver for a couple of months and bought a JVC DVD Player with the receiver. The sound and clarity is outstanding. I tried units like Yamaha and harmon kardon and found that this unit has more features and sounds identical to the Yamaha or H.K. The TEXT CompuLink between the DVD Player and the receiver makes using the unit extremely easy. The One Touch Operation keeps a memory of all the settings for the different functions used on the receiver. The remote is great. I use it to operate my satelite, tv, vcr, dvd, and receiver. The DTS and Dolby Digital is great on this unit as well. I would recommend this unit for any individual that wants a clear, precise, digital sound for a fraction of the cost of a high-end unit. JVC uses the Motorola DSP chip for its decoding. This is the same chip used by all the high-end units.
Rating: Summary: High clarity, good cost, great reciever Review: I purchased this amplifier about three days ago. I had been looking for quite some time looking at sony, pioneer, denon, yamaha, morantz, onkyo, and some others that were so expensive I can't even remember the names of them. Of all the brands I looked at I chose this one because of the things I had heard about it from friends. With cost being no factor I wanted something dependable, sleek, powerful, and good sounding. This reciever is all that and then some. My home theater is now complete. Compared to the other brands I looked at (including the $5000.00 ones), this one seemed more reasonablely priced and more so high quality. It sounds great, looks great, it is great. Thanks to the JVC engineering. I needed something that was compatible with my DVD player and something that would sound great with my music. I have front speakers that were $1200 for the pair and I needed something that was powerful enough and clear enough for them. This amp is. I would reccommend it to any future buyers looking for one, not to mention it does have a very nice light set on the face of it. That just adds to the look of the home theater. Im glad my friends reccommended this to me. Thanks guys!

Rating: Summary: It has EVERYTHING for a great price!! Review: I searched for a receiver for quite along time that had all of the features that are absolutely necessary for a modern Home Theater system. I found nothing under $800. JVC's PREVIOUS top-of-the-line model did NOT measure up... The main feature missing in almost all of the units I had looked at was connectivity: most units did not have enough s-video inputs (a true home theater unit should have at least 3 and preferably 4). To take advantage of the higher resolution and picture quality, you need s-video or component inputs for all digital video signals (DirecTV/DSS, DVD, Laserdisc, digital camcorders, digital cable) as well as SVHS VCRs and camcorders. It should also have enough digital audio inputs for all digital audio (DirecTV/DSS, DVD, CD, MD). This unit has it all!! It is well made, with very high quality banana speaker terminals, the remote controls almost everything, and is relatively easy to setup. If you have the need to spend alot of money ($800-$2000) on a receiver, you certainly can, but if you just need a great receiver that your Home Theater system will NOT outgrow, this is the ticket!!
Rating: Summary: Good Receiver, Reasonably Priced, Lousy Manual Review: I've had this receiver now for about 6 months. Overall, I like it. The sound is good. It has just about all of the connections I could possibly want. They included just about all of the cables I needed, except for the optical cable, which turned out to be very expensive. One complaint that I have is that this receiver is very complex. It stems from the fact that it has so many features. However, the manual is awful at explaining how to use the various features. (Yes, I read manuals.) The remote control is big, but nicely laid out. The main buttons I use (play, stop, volumne, etc.) are large and easy to find by feel. Which is important to me while I'm watching movies in the dark. I'm happy with this receiver. I would buy it again, but I'm still figuring out how to use all of the things it's capable of. If you're intimidated by technology, then this may not be the receiver for you. If you want a good receiver at a reasonable price and are willing to learn as you go, then this receiver may be a good choice.
Rating: Summary: Great Receiver for a great price Review: If you are looking for a base receiver which will support the needs of home theater now and in the future, this is it. This unit has three key features that are an absolute must for home theater(performance and price go without saying); 1)Dolby Digital & DTS ready -this is the main reason to invest in home theater! 2) Full S-Video inputs for all components -Video switching can be cumbersome unless your receiver and all your components use the same video input/outputs (SVGA, RCA & RF). Buy this unit with the intention of connecting all your components via SVGA for ease of operation and superb picture quality. 3) Digital Audio input Mapping -Sounds technical but it simply allows you to address the receiver optical inputs to your match your equipment. What all this means is that this receiver has all the flexibility to support whatever components you have today and any you decide to upgrade/add tomorrow. I tried out two other receivers before zeroing in on this one. The only downside(as also mentioned by another reviewer)is that the unit is somewhat of a technical challenge to master. JVC operation manuals tend to be a little brief and cryptic in their explainations. This one is better than most but you must read the manual (probably more than once)when you set this unit up or it will not function properly. (e.g., In addition to all the cabling, Dolby Digital sound requires proper DVD I/O mapping plus the DVD player must be set to output the proper digital data stream.) In all the units I've seen, this one is far and away the best equipped, and for the money, its an obvious top choice.

Rating: Summary: Expert system but not all of us are experts Review: This is the first time that I have bought a reciever of this type. I was reading all the reviews and recommendations from everybody before I bought this sucker. I actually bought it at a good price at the time ( 379 bones ) knowing from comments that the manual was lousy. I figured that it shouldn't be all that bad since I have a technical degree. Receiver was great. But it took me a fairly long time to get it work right with the subwoofer ( I had to fumble with a bunch of settings before I found the right one ). Still, it's a great system for the future.
