Rating: Summary: Good choice Review: I needed a basic stereo receiver to play my old LP's and cassette tapes as well as my newer CD's. The Onkyo TX8211 does it all very well. Good sound, easy hookup, low price, and adequate power. Yes, 50 watts is sufficient power for a normal sized room. It is obvious that the previous reviewer does not own an Onkyo TX8211 or has even gone to the store to look at one, or he would know that this receiver does come with a built in phono input. The alternate to this receiver is the ... Sony STR-DE185 but the Sony would require the addition of a ...phono preamp adapter to play LP's so the total price is back up .... The ...Onkyo will save you a lot of hassle and give you slightly better numbers (THD, etc.) than the Sony albeit the Sony is a 100 watt system.
Rating: Summary: Very Good Stereo Receiver Review: I've owned this receiver for about three years. Very good sound, low distortion. Plus yes, it does have a phono input!
Rating: Summary: Onkyo TX8211 Review: Overall a well-equipped receiver with enough power to keep most listeners happy. I chose this model for its excellent price and phono input. I'm pleased with the crisp clean sound. A few drawbacks keep this unit from perfection. The remote only controls volume and input source, although there are plenty of controls for other Onkyo components, which may eliminate the need for multiple remotes. Also the Tape 2 input is intended as a monitor that overrides other inputs when selected and must be turned off before listening to other sources, a minor inconvenience. Tape to tape recording capabilities are limited, if not impossible.
Rating: Summary: Very good bargain-priced stereo receiver. Review: The fad today clearly is for multi-channel audio/video receivers -- preferably with lots of watts. But most people stiill listen to music with just two speakers and, consequently, only need a good stereo receiver. The Onkyo TX-8211 is a very good stereo receiver at a very reasonable price. Yes, it "only" has 50 watts per channel of power, but 50 watts per channel will drive most speakers to deafening levels (which is NOT good for your ears) unless you play music with the bass control on full boast. If you feel that you must have 100 watts per channel, check out the Onkyo TX-8511. But, believe me, most people will be quite happy with the TX-8211 which is significantly less expensive. One word of caution: the TX-8211 does not have a phono input and, therefore, cannot play LPs. But for playing CDs, tapes, and radio broadcasts it is a very good buy.
Rating: Summary: a great basic receiver Review: This receiver is great for people like me that want decent quality and sound but dont care about multiple channels or surround sound. This is NOT an AV receiver, and thats why I like it.Its great in a bedroom or small den as a music-only receiver. It only has 50 watts, but its high-current,low-impedance design is more than adequate to drive most bookshelf speakers or small floor speakers with up to 10" woofers. The more efficient speakers are the best choice.Good speaker cable and audio cable also helps to get the most from this receiver. With the large aluminum heat sink, this unit operates very cool.
