Summary: Love My Fuji 3800
Review: This is my 3rd digital camera. Was not satified until I got this one. Wow what great pics!!! The zoom is fantastic especially at kids sport and music events. The only flaw is the viewfinder. Its almost impossible to see through it in low light. I love this camera

Summary: By far the best camera you can get for the money!
Review: I researched, and researched, and researched digital cameras for over a month. I went back and forth, trying to determine my budget, what I needed, and what I wanted. It came down to a few models - the Canon A70, Sony DSCP72, and this one. I liked the manual features of the A70, but couldn't ignore the fact that the Fuji 3800 has TWICE the zoom. You may not know how important a feature this is until you actually use the camera. My advice - go to a retailer, pick up all the cameras you're considering, and take some sample shots. The zoom on this is amazing! Plus it feels SO much nicer in your hands than the others I looked at.

I also liked the XD memory card, which is SUPER fast for uploading pictures. I just took a ton of pics using my 256 mb card and uploaded them to my computer and they look AMAZING! I use one as my desktop wallpaper and I swear it looks like a professional picture downloaded from the internet. And I develop [online] for about the same price as a 35 mm camera, and the pictures are unbelievable. Even better than the real thing.

This camera is super easy to use, and does have some neat manual features for the amateur photographer. You can browse through all your pictures on the LCD display and delete the crummy ones before uploading to save time and batteries. The software is really good, and a lot better than other reviews have stated.

Also, contrary to a lot of other reviews, this camera does GREAT in low light situations. Sometimes you have to adjust the aperture on it to get the best shot, but that's why the camera offers manual controls. I definitely suggest reading the manual to learn all the capabilities of this camera - there are a TON.

I couldn't be more impressed with a digital camera. I was so hesitant at first, but now am convinced I did the right thing. This camera goes with me everywhere now. Do your research, find what's best for you - but check this one out - you will not be disappointed.

Summary: Great camera for price!
Review: This is such a great medium sized camera for the price. I purchased mine as an open box buy and got a free 64MB card free with the camera. I had been in the market for a new camera(old one is a Kodak APS), and was looking to get into digital photography this year. I read reviews and went to local stores (Best Buy, Circuit City, Wolf, and so on) and finally settled on this one. I love the fact that it has 6X optical zoom, this does really set it apart. I took it to a baseball game recently and yes it does seem a little off in taking pictures speedwise but if you get the timing down(being a second off) you can take great moving photos. I was sitting about 100' to 120' away and was still able to see the ball being hit off the bat. The camera is also great at taking pictures of wild life. The camera is great at tying in the foreground and background in alot of still life pictures I have taken so far. The pictures almost look 3-D when this happens in automatic mode. I was taking pictures right out of the box. In about 10 minutes I was taking photos. The Through The Lens viewfinder is alittle weird at first but in taking action shots and low light shots keep both eyes open. The camera is small enough on the left side that even with your hand there you can see the action. It does seem difficult at first but you get used to it really fast. My action shots have become a lot better since I started doing this. Also the price of XD cards is starting to come down in price. 256MB is the new card out with 512MB and 1Gig cards coming later this year.
Yes there are some cons to this camera. The lens cover is one. I don't like using the neck strap so my lens cover does dangle, but if you wrap the lanyard for it in your fingers this does get it out of the way. It is a little bulky I would suggest getting one of Fuji's accesories kits(2 to choose from) I bought the one with the bag and rechargable batteries (much needed). Fuji also has one with a mini tripod and editing software. Get the one with the tripod and software it's a much better value.
The one thing I would like to see is that Fuji would come out with is a Fisheye Lens. There is a wide angle and telephoto lens available though for this camera. The FinePix software is a great basic software with one click adding of photos. But don't forget to save then edit names of pictures AND DON'T FORGET THE .JPG after the picture. If you try to edit before saving you might not find the edited picture.
I love this camera I plan to buy another XD card so I can take more 3MP shots at the sporting events I go to this year.

Summary: Great Camera!
Review: I just got this camera for my birthday a few weeks ago and I LOVE it! It takes really nice quality pictures and you can choose from several different resolution levels. I got it because it does video. As I understand, the video quality from digital cameras is usually not the greatest, and on the **lower** resolution, the Fuji 3800 is no exception to that rule. On the lower resolution when you are inside, the video tends to be grainy and very dark (This is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5). You have to turn on a LOT of lights to get a viewable inside video. However, on the higher resolution and outside (or in a very well lit room) the video quality is actually pretty DECENT! However on the lower resolution, you can take 200 sec videos, whereas on the higher resolution you can only take around a minute (I forget exactly how long.) Still it is a lot of fun. Personally, I also like the fact that it takes alkaline batteries. None of the other cameras (with the same features) I looked at did that. They all required special (expensive) rechargeable batteries. I am not always going to be in a place where I can recharge my batteries and I don't want to buy a replacement rechargeable battery. However, you can always run to the nearest convenience store and get AA batteries. As far as memory goes, I bought a 128 mg card for about $60 and it is serving me quite well. It stores quite a few pictures (of course the number depends on the picture quality, but at a lower-but still very acceptable quality--it can store up to several hundred pictures.) The only thing I really wish it did was hook up to the tv so I could show pictures that way.

Summary: THE BEST DIGITAL FOR THE MONEY!
Review: I have an expensive digital camera and this Fuji FinePix is the best digital camera yet. It fits perfect in your hand, is easy to use (even for beginners), and is compact. I love this little camera.

Summary: Great Little Performer
Review: I looked around comparing features and prices before buying. I am delighted with my Fujifilm 3800 -- vivid photos and lots of features for the money. However, I would definitely recommend a larger capacity card. The 16 MB card included does not hold enough for long shooting sessions. My only other criticism is a lens cap that dangles in front of the camera. An auto cap would be nice.
Everything considered, this is a great buy!

Summary: Hard to tell how good it is. 5 Stars maybe.
Review: It is hard to tell how I like this since it was ordered in March and still has not arrived and the new projected delivery is mid to late June. I have no understanding of why this is since you can find it in stores like Best Buy and Circuit City everyday. Unfortunately, I was given Amazon gift certificates for it so I'm stuck waiting and missed several important events where I needed it. Be cautious of ordering this camera at Amazon if it is the one you want and you are expecting or needing it soon.

Reviews indicate it is a quality product and it received a CR recommendations.

Summary: Excellent camera value - here's why!
Review: This is a GREAT camera. The combination of the 6X optical zoom, a great form factor, and excellent battery life are unbeatable. Still I recommend buying TWO SETS of rechargeable batteries (get the highest mAH number you can find).

Summary: Today it's a Great Value
Review: Prices always change, but it's obvious that in the spring of 2003, Fujifilm positioned this camera to move off the shelves, and make a good impression.

Some of the bad reviews touch on problems with this camera, but you're not going to find a perfect, or even a professional grade camera with these features in it's price range. None of the problems are fatal flaws, in my opinion.

The worst flaw is that neither the LCD screen or the EVF are bright enough when the light is very low. There are other digital cameras that do this better, but if you're going to be doing a lot of low-light shooting, and you want your framing and focus to be right every time, don't get a digital camera. Get a 35mm film camera.

If you're just taking snapshots at an indoor event, this can be annoying, but you can always reframe things when you edit the digital pictures. Let's face it. You're not going to have a perfect picture every time no matter what camera you use, so you're going to be doing some editting anyway.

There were a couple of other issues brought up in some of the reviews I read. For example, in anything but bright sunlight, when you have the zoom fully extended to 6x, you're not going to be able to hold the camera steady enough. That would be true with any camera, digital or film. The longer the zoom, the more your minute shaking will affect the final result.

Also, each time you erase the memory card, the numbering on the filenames starts over again at 1. If there is an option to change this (as I had in the Fujifilm 1300 I replaced), I have not found it yet. That means when you store your originals you'll either have to change the filenames, or store them in seperate folders.

As for battery life, the first 200 pictures I took were inside shots, many using flash. Because I wear glasses, I find it easier to use the big LCD. I was able to take almost 200 pictures before the original batteries started to die. Still, I pop 4 AA alkaline batteries into my pocket when I take the camera with me.

The 16MB card is too small. It's inclusion is similar to the half-full ink cartridge included with new printers, or the 10 test strips included with a blood glucosse meter. Your first purchase after deciding to keep the camera should be a 128MB card. A 128MB card will hold 90-100 pictures at the finest resolution.

The camera fits perfectly in my average sized hand, but it may not fit in your hand. Of course if you have very big or very small or oddly shaped hands, you already know to check it out by holding it in your hand at a local store. The weight is quite low, and it's balanced fairly well. For most people there won't be any ergonomic issues.

Three people I work with also purchased digital cameras in the same price range as the Fujifilm 3800 about the same time I did. As we compared notes, and passed our cameras around, the other three wished they would have considered the Fujifilm 3800. And while a couple of those other cameras had some neat features mine didn't, I was still satisfied with my choice.

Is it a professional camera? No. Is it a perfect camera? No. Is it a great value? At the time of my purchase, and even now at the time of this review, yes it is. I have no regrets about choosing the Fujifilm 3800.
