Review: After reading quite a few reviews and speaking with several camera users, I decided to purchase this camera at a local store. At first, I was more than satisfied but quickly realized a couple of problems: Like most digital cameras, battery life is limited. With this camera though, the battery was almost empty after 12 pictures. To make matters worse, it uses a proprietary battery that is only available through their Web Site. Next, when using the viewfinder, my nose was always resting on the screen. Thus causing smudges all the time. All in all not a bad camera, but for the price there are better.

Review: I bought the JVC as my first digital camera. So far I have taken about 300 photos with it, and it is just wonderfull.

Review: I have two other camera "Casio" that I do like and work well. I find this camera not only works well it works fast. I have a problem with batterys being used up fast so sure I use recharge type batteries and power for down load to the computer. The JVC battery last long and even in the usb mode will do with out a charge. The JVC is a small bilt to last camera that I'm sure we all can use and have fun. I use it often and there is no end to a good digital camera --------Make good pictures and have fun!

Summary: Aspherical zoom lens GOOD, not bad
Review: Just a quick clarification: an aspherical lens is a GOOD thing. The owner who complained about his camera's aspherical lens (twice, no less) is a little confused, I think. Traditional (spherical) lenses are, as the name implies, spherical. Imagine cutting a section off of a sphere. You'd think that this lens would produce beautiful pictures, but it actually produces images with some minor flaws. I believe the flaws may be the result of different colors of light diffracting in varying degrees; I'm not sure. I DO know that lens manufacturers produce lenses with slightly aspherical designs to compensate for these flaws. Aspherical lenses are more expensive than standard lenses, and produce better images. I believe that the reviewer who was complaining about aspherical lenses had his terms confused with digital zoom. Digital zoom is a worthless extra the marketing boys at the digital camera companies dreamed up to make their cameras sound better. But this camera doesn't have digital zoom. It has optical zoom. I don't own this camera, but, on paper at least, it sounds like a great camera. 3+ megapixels, 2.3 x zoom, and aspherical lens all make this sound like a high-quality product. Just trying to clear up the confusion :)

Review: Superb state of the art camera which is value priced in today's market. I had been waiting for digital camera resolution to reach the equivalent of 35 MM photography -- it has finally occurred with the advent of 3+ mega pixels. This camera has 3 advanced pixel shifting modes which generate results equivalent to 6 MEGA PIXELs. When the pictures are printed as 8" X 10" blowups on my 2400 X 1200 DPI Lexmark ($175) inkjet, they are equal to my 35MM 8" X 10"s (magnificent). Extremely easy to use, with many features such as: Collage (taking 1 photo and superimposing a 2nd photo upon it so that it appears as if the subject from pic 1 was in the location of pic 2 -- a different background), video streaming where a succession of 20 seconds of stills run together as a clip which can be emailed as motion video, red eye reduction built into the flash, USB port for direct input to a computer or printer, Video port for input to a TV, Calendar to time /date stamp if desired, Macro capability which I recently used to take pictures of pictures, etc. And the price at our local electronics store was $699!!

Summary: Apparently not all GC-QX3's are alike
Review: The GC-QX3 is my only digital camera, so I don't have much of a comparison, but I am not thrilled. It takes beautiful pictures outdoors in the bright sunlight, but it completely falls apart in low light situations. The auto mode is essentially worthless indoors. At least half the time the camera gets the white balance wrong, and the pictures are all blue. I mean REALLY blue, unfixably blue. Flash pictures, in addition to being blue, are usually severely under exposed. Even though this camera has three different sensitivities, it always takes auto mode flash pictures at the lowest sensitivity (ASA 80 equivalent). I have completely given up trying to use the camera indoors in auto mode. I set white balance, sensitivity and exposure manually. This is a real pain if I am in a point and shoot situation, and even then, I never really know what I am going to get. The display on the back is nice for previews, but it is worthless for judging picture quality. JVC has the worst customer support that I have ever seen. I have tried to talk to them about my problems, but they refuse to answer my email. Their web site gives me the address of the JVC service center to which I can take the camera, but when I talk to the people who actually work there, they tell me that no one there knows anything about the GC-QX3, and they are sure that it is not one of the products which they service. After reading as much as I can find about this camera, I am not at all convinced that mine is defective. It is sounding more and more like just bad design. I gave it a 3 rating because the pictures taken in plenty of light are stunning. Look somewhere else (I wish I knew where) if you plan to take a lot of indoor pictures.
