Description:

Affordability and high, clean power are hallmarks of Sony's Xplod series XM-2100GTX 2-channel automotive power amplifier. Compact in size and easy to install, the class A/B amp is capable of driving 100 reliable watts per channel RMS (continuous) into 4-ohm speakers (125 watts peak), or up to 275 wpc peak into 2-ohm speakers. Alternately, you can use it as a bridged, monaural amp for a rocking 550 watts per channel--buy one for every speaker in your system.

Feed the XM-2100GTX line-level RCA signals from your CD or cassette head unit, or speaker-level outputs from the same using a standard 4-pin connector. Handy stereo RCA passthrough jacks let you add additional amplifiers--now at a later date--to handle rear speakers or mono-block amplification. Mount the XM-2100GTX in the trunk or under your seat, attach the inputs, set your level, and crank up the tunes. You get up to 10 dB of bass boost (centered at 40 Hz) if your car, music, or neighborhood really cries out for it.

Controls include LPF (low-pass filter) selection, cut-off frequency adjustment (50 or 300 Hz), low-boost control, and the master level-adjustment control. A protection circuit and indicator protects the unit from damage.

The amp is equipped with an ultra-quick MOSFET (Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor) power supply and MOSFET output devices made to handle high volumes of current while providing optimal frequency response and control. Its built-in power regulator converts the power supplied by the car's DC 12V battery into high-speed pulses using a semiconductor switch. These pulses are stepped-up by the built-in pulse transformer and separated into both positive and negative power supplies before being converted into direct current (DC) again. This lightweight power supply provides highly efficient power with a low-impedance output.
