Summary: Excellent camera
Review: Admitted, I am not an expert in comparing digital camera - nor, did I feel I had a lot of time to compare the various features of one camera to another. But, I can say that as a family, we are very pleased and have enjoyed our camera very much. As well, the delivery of the order was very good.

Summary: Pure Junk!
Review: After two weeks of waiting for this product I installed all the software, took a few test pictures clicked the "Share" button and waited for 20 minutes "Serching for media" computer froze. I tried this several more times that nigth and finaly gave up with the thought of calling Kodak Tech support in the morning.I wake up call Kodaks friendly tech support, they do have semi decent support, after 5 hours of them telling me it was cause I have an IRQ conflict, and three calls, I gaveup with their tech support and decided to fix my IRQ for my USB so that it wasnt sharing a n IRQ with my sound card. (note never had IRQ issues with any USB device ever before) I fixed it so that the USB had it's own IRQ and step up the software, camera and took a few test shots again.....SUpirise it froze my computer AGAIN. So I went to my buddies house to try it on his computer...yeah I didnt give up easy on this...and had the same results. I knew I should have bought a Sony!

Summary: Problems from the beginning
Review: Had serious problems getting any where near decent quality photos. Then, after only 2 days of use, took the camera to make pictures of the grandkids and the camera would never load. The LCD never cleared--just a blur. Ending up returning the product.

Summary: Check out tech support before you buy...
Review: I bought this camera based on the reviews I read here. I spent a half a day attempting to install the Kodak EasyShare software from the CD with no success. I eventually managed to connect to their web site to try and download the software but it is just as buggy and wouldn't install. The drivers did load and I am able to connect to the camera and transfer the photos to my computer using Windows Explorer. I do have some other graphics software so it is not a total loss. If you're smart you will go to a company's web site and see if they have a phone number for tech support and see if you can contact them before you buy anything. Kodak has no such tech support numbers for the US on their web site. I'm really upset with myself for relying solely on these reviews.

Summary: Why exactly do we need the docking station?
Review: I bought this camera last year and I have not been happy with the results. First the camera (not the user) decides wheather it's going to use the internal or the memory card on any given day. The only way I could get my pictures to save on the memory card is if I hit the side of the camera a few times. Let's just say I misses many of those precious "kodak moments" fooling around with this tempermental camera. The why exactly do we need a docking station? My so-called "charged battery" lasts for a maximum of two hours. We can "easily" transfer the pictures my sticking the memory card in the computer. Once again I think the whole docking station idea is a way for kodak to make consumers think we need to buy yet another accessory to make everything "easy." Most of the pictures I have taken have came out way too dark- even after I changed the flash settings. The camera is getting serviced as we speak to lets see what happens~

Summary: My Little Buddy
Review: I don't know about you users out there who are having problems with your CX4230, but me and mine spend countless hours together and the only hitch we've had has been that it was dropped a couple of times.
I've had this camera (and the same batteries) for more than a year now and have had nothing but fun with it. The only reason I give it four stars, is because there isn't a skin (like a cell phone skin) available for it. I'm not too crazy about the camera pouches that are available. But hey, I'm going to give in and get one anyway.
Okay, so the docking station isn't the best of creations from Kodak, but I believe they'll fix that sooner or later. But I don't have to "hit" the camera. Maybe a jiggle once in a while, but that's it. And that is so infrequent that it doesn't affect my love for the whole shebang.
I enjoy this camera. So much so, that when my employer requested that I reasearch and find him a digital camera, I went right to Kodak for the answer and the product. Needless to say that now he is a happy camper with his 5MP Kodak.
Honestly, I would like to get my hands on a more professional quality camera. But that is because I enjoy the feel of the larger format cameras (you know, the big and heavy 35mm type?), but that is in the future, and would only serve for taking those truly professional looking pictures. Everything else is done with my little buddy - the Kodak CX4230.

Summary: The Easyshare [is bad], but Kodak is pretty cool.
Review: I have a CX4230 and it is currently on it's last legs. I'll spare the details: I liked the features too, it's lightweight, etc. But the problem I have been having is with the Dock. The "rechargeable battery" isn't all that rechargeable, even after cycling like they suggest. In addition, my camera mysteriously stops working every now and then, loses pictures, blew up a battery pack internally, and now won't charge at all. It's been back to Kodak twice and the second time they gutted it and gave me new insides because the NiMh battery blew up inside of it, making the entire thing too hot to touch. It worked for a little bit, but now it's DEAD. I am waiting to hear back from them to see if I can send it back a third time. How frustrating. But I have to say: Kodak has been pretty cool about the returns and stuff, but a good product won't NEED support--it would have been designed to work. The market is competitive enough that you don't need to purchase something that is still obviously in the beta stages.

Summary: Camera software problems on some computers running WindowsXP
Review: I have a different model Kodak camera, however they all use the same EasyShare software. Running Windows XP, I could not get the software to work properly. After several hours on the phone with Kodak tech support, they couldn't get it working either.
They said they are aware of the problem on some computers running Windows XP. It is now several months later and they still don't have a fix. They don't really seem to care either. It might not be a bad idea to consider other brands, instead of Kodak. Since, if the software won't work properly, then what good is the camera?

Summary: Need to update XP
Review: I have read a number of reviews where people have problems getting the software to run with Windows XP. The key is to update your XP software (upgrades are free from Microsoft). XP had many bugs when it was released and Microsoft is just getting around to cleaning up a number of them including the one that caused problems with the EasyShare software.
