Summary: Be prepared for global parts sourcing
Review: All vendor descriptions as well as the Casio web site said it comes with a remote control, but when I got the box, lo and behold there was no remote. Casio politely informed me that the web site was a mistake. They were however not able to tell me whether it comes with a remote that I could buy separately. I finally discovered, after studying the serial communications protocol of the 2300 and 2800UX, that the remote that comes with the 2800 (WR-1C) works with the 2300. But then, more surprises - the WR-1C is not available in the US - I had to get it from Japan.

You are supposed to be able to use standard 43 mm lenses and filters by attaching the LU-8A adapter to the camera. But wait! This part too is not available in the US - I had to get it from Japan.

Anyhow, the pictures I get from the camera are great! I just wish the movie mode had been of a higher resolution and/or a higher fps. That would have left little to be desired in this fantastic package.

Summary: Fantastic Camera
Review: Great camera, I'm not a pro, but so far it does everything I want it to. I was worried about the altitude limit on the microdrive (10,000). I live at 11,200 feet and have not had any problems.

Summary: Nice camera, with awesome features
Review: I've acquire this camera a month ago and I was really surprised for its features. Basically, the existance of 28 preset scenic modes and the possibility of recording 30 seconds of clip movies. Really great. And the bottom line, for my opinion, it's of course the 340 IBM CompactFlash memory card included with the camera. I'm not sure, but I think this feature is only available here, in Europe. So, I'm very sorry for the American folks.

But not everything is perfect. First of all, the camera doesn't have an optical viewfinder, and this is a serious lack when you try to get some photos and you couldn't watch correctly the LCD because of the sunlight. I'd like to remark, also, the 41 mm lens which doesn't give you very much angle of view in some cases.

The rest of the camera features are great: USB connectivity (very fast downloads); rotatable lens (great possibilities taking shots); 3 x optical zoom and 4 x digital zoom.

My conclusion: great camera, and better people

Summary: Near perfect beginner package
Review: I've bought and used this camera for about a month now. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then there's a thousand beautiful pictures here for you to judge. Plentiful storage (nothing beats the 340MB IBM Microdrive), countless presets for shooting different scenes, and excellent image quality round out this great package. The software package is also top notch. An optical viewfinder would make this the perfect beginner/intermediate digital camera.

Summary: A good deal for the price
Review: It is the best in 2.1 M camera class with 340M IBM microdrive included. I bought it two weeks ago. I don't need to worry about the memory capacity. One set of 1600mAH NiMH batteries keep it going for around 80 pictures (60% without flash)including download to the computer. The USB download is fast and easy.

The drawbacks are the time needed between captures (approx. 1 1/2 seconds)and no sound recording function in 16 sec. movie mode.

It is very light and compact. With a soft belt mount case supplied, it is a sure fun to carry around. I gave 5*s for its price and features.

Summary: Awesome Jewel
Review: The gargantuam capacity of the IBM Microdrive makes this sufficient reason to get this camera. Fortunately, the camera is also surprisingly very portable and takes excellent quality pictures. All the thoughtful unexpected features of the camera are very much appreciated ie: photo management via the use of folders per day. The anticipated battery problem was alleviated with the purchase of the Casio battery charger/AC adapter and some rechargeable batteries. I'm totally happy with this purchase.
