Rating: Summary: Very Satisfied Review: This is the first digital camera I have owned, so I don't have anything to compare it with. I bought it as a result of reading the other reviews on amazon...It has been very easy to use and the picture quality seems fine for computer use. I did download the updated twain driver from the polaroid web site and all went well. For the money I paid for it, it seems a great value!
Rating: Summary: Ideal for new Digital user Review: This is the perfect item for the new user. So easy to use you barely need to reference the operators manual. The software leaves a lot to be desired, however, so I use it with "picture it" software and have enlarged framed photos of my family and friends everywhere. Picture quality, even with 8 by 10 enlargement is excellent.
Rating: Summary: Eats battery like crazy Review: This is was my first camera. Slightly overpriced (I paid +- 167 uS$). It's heavier than you think. Uses 4 AA batteries that drain rapidly, it's fast enough to take photos, but I dont like quality of them. Seems granulated.. it's no crystal-clear picture to me.
Rating: Summary: great camera Review: this little camera is fantastic! after quickly reading through the booklet to get the idea of how to use it, i was snapping pics! the battery consumption is normal for a digi cam. in the 3 star setting, the pictures are good, in the 4 star setting, pictures are great. takes some practice on the settings & things, but for the price, you can't beat it! very happy. i would recommend 2 things though; a smartcard reader(usb or floppy) and rechargeable batteries. the only reason i gave four stars is the "jack" that the serial cable plugs into on the camera broke on the 5th time using it. i use a card reader anyway, so this is not a problem for me.
Rating: Summary: Nothing but troubles, replaced many times, still don't work Review: This would be a nice camera if I could only get one that works and stays working. My first one went dead after a week, I exhanged it at the store. Then found out the software with second camera did not have the feature that allowed me to operate the camera from my computer via the serial cable (handy feature for what I was doing with it). I had to BUY new software from Polaroid to get that feature back. The second camera lasted about a year, but had a few glitches that I did not feel good about. I purchased the extended warranty. The camera had a problem the following week. Polaroid sent me a new camera under the extended warranty. Well, during the next year the "refurbished" cameras kept having problems. They ranged from having a problem right out of the box to lasting maybe 30 or 60 days. I'm on about the 8th camera now. The last one they sent me had the battery compartment all full of corrosion. I'm sending that one back. The keep sending me "refurbished" cameras that still have problems. It's now 2-1/2 years since I purchased the original camera and I still do NOT have a working PDC 640 camera. It's on its way back to Polaroid AGAIN !!!!! I do not recommend it because of the continous problems I've had. Meanwhile... I had to buy a Olympus brand camera because the Polaroid is always being sent in for repairs. If you can get a good one that keeps working, then it would be a nice camera.
Rating: Summary: almost a camera Review: to start out I had the i-catch version of this camera, which except for the name is identical, a corporate knock-off. this camera is handy for general pictures and is capable of some interesting things, fr instance, one night on my way home from work, I set it on the lowest mode and took 300 + pictures and when I got home put them together with Paint shop animator and made a little movie. neat. first thing.. the software and picture download [stinks]- get a card reader and get a couple smartmedia cards.. DONT LEAVE THIS IN YOUR CAR! the heat melts the innards! I have replaced my camera 3 times under warrenty. now the store does not carry it any more. therefore I am S.O.L. The front slide door gets sloppy, it won't turn on, it uses batteries like crazy, dont use the LCD to focus, just take lots of shots, film is cheap. Just a little too big to put in your pocket. if you payt more than [amt] for this thing you got ripped, but it is a useful tool for reference, I used it for note-taking on a jobsite, lots of pet pics, nothing too detailed, don't expect too much, but you can have fun with it.. my replacement for this camera will be a finepix 2800, and if I could afford it a Nikon D1 in summation: cheap average quality heat sensitive almost disposable no online tech support can be fun Tim Williams
Rating: Summary: Not worth the money Review: Very difficult to make the connection with the computer work properly. It would take up to 30 Attempts (each resulting in a full reboot) before the camera successfully made a connection. After owning it for one year the camera quit working. Which was ok because now I can buy a nicer one!
