Rating: Summary: Incompatible Review: So far I am very unhappy with my DSC P51. I like the set-up and quality of the camera itself, but I have had plenty of trouble downloading pictures and the Sony technical help has been adversarial and condescending. We bought our Sony when we had a Windows 98 computer and were able to download our pictures. The USB port on that computer fried so we got a new desktop with Windows XP. The camera was not recognized so we called Sony. After trying 10 different things with a tech guy he told us it was our computer's fault. We got on the phone with Dell, who told us it was Sony's fault (of course). I borrowed my father's Kodak, plugged it in and it worked fine! I've now been on the phone with Sony for 1.5 hours (and counting) explaining the problem. At each step I've been told there are sometimes problems with hardware.... So what! Fix it! Finally got a manager that says it's never happened with this camera. Once again so what! They've presented no solutions or options!
Rating: Summary: Point and shoot, or use the tons of features... Review: This camera is truly amazing! I'd been using it for weeks, taking hundreds of amazing quality images before I even knew it had so many advanced features. That's one of the things that makes this camera so great... It's so easy to use out of the box. The advanced features never get in your way like they do with other cameras. When you want them, however, they are really very cool. My favorite feature I've found so far is the low-light outdoor portrait. My friends and I took a trip to DC a couple years ago, and took some pictures in front of different attractions at twighlight with a film-based camera. When we got them developed, all you could see was us... there wasn't enough light for the camera to caputre the background. With the Sony, however, that's a thing of the past! Simply put the camera on a solid object or tripod, and turn on low-light portrait mode (very easy to do). The flash on the camera goes off twice really fast, and then continues capturing in low light mode. What it does is uses the first flash to find what is close enough to get with the flash, the second flash captures that image, and then the lens stays open for up to two seconds longer capturing the low light background! The pictures taken in this mode at twighlight look amazing! Everything is nice and sharp... beautiful. Another great feature is the ability to use the camera's zoom controls to zoom in on pictures you've already taken when viewing them on the LCD. Reviewing your pictures is great, but it's hard to tell if someone has their eyes closed in a shot, etc. when you're viewing on a 2" screen. Well, with this camera, you can zoom right into their face to see. Very useful! This doesn't even begin to describe what this camera can do... excellent quality, perfect color - truly the best digital camera I've ever owned.
Rating: Summary: A Lot of Flash for the Cash Review: In short, if you are looking for a well made, reliable digital camera that does not cost too much for the basic needs you are looking for in a camera, this is a great camera to look into getting. Like most people, I didn't need the [amount] mega model camera because my needs are very basic. I wanted something that i could take basic pictures, and that had the basic digital camera advantages like being able to view pictures after they are taken and delete any that are just wasted space. Sony has a great system and if you happen to have a sony desktop, this camera is even more for you due to the added ease of transfering pictures. This camera covers all the basics everyone wants from a digital camera and also has some advanced features. The quality is good and the product is well made. Sony is a name people have learned to trust and the DSC-P51 is no exception.
Rating: Summary: A nice camera at a great price Review: I bout this camera about 6 months ago and I am very please with it. It takes amazing pictures even if it is only a 2 mega pixel camera. The interface is easy to learn and understand as apposed some of the other cameras that I tried out before buying the DSC-P51. The screen is nice is large enough to allow for easy viewing of the pictures you have just taken. Also what I found nice was that the cam came with rechargeable batteries, so you can take all the pictures you want without having to buy new batteries. Overall a great camera, I would highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful entry-level Camera Review: This camera is wonderful, for the money you spend for the Sony DSC-P51 2MP Cyber-Shot Digital Camera w/ 2x Optical Zoom by Sony, you get a camera that does what you are expecting from a Sony product, a high quality camera, beautiful photos, easy to use, a lot of features, compact size. Like other costumers said, if you have a 128MB Memory Stick, this camera is the best companion in your leisure and bussiness trips. I love it.
Rating: Summary: Beware if your computer is not powerful enough for camera! Review: I did not buy this exact model, but it's close. I got the Sony DSC-P50. The camera is fine. Still trying to figure out how to make my pictures less dark. But here's a warning: Make sure that your computer is up to date enough to accomodate the USB port or you can't download your pix. I had an older system, admittedly, with Windows 95 and no USB capability. So the only way I could download my photos was by stealing some time at work. I guess my main complaint is more with the salespeople at Best Buy, who didn't warn me or ask me anything about my PC. I have since found that the salespeople at Micro Center are much more knowledgeable about their products. P.S. A lightning strike on my place forced me to buy a new tower/box. Now my computer has a USB port and Windows XP so I can download easily.
Rating: Summary: please make your descritive text accurate! Review: the "features" say 0ptical zoom 8x while the picture show a 2x lens. Don't buy anything whose description is not accurate.
Rating: Summary: Amazing cam!! Review: I just recieved my P51 and I have to say it's an absolute stunner! It looks better than almost any digital cam out there, and the picture quality is breathtaking, as are the host of options...Don't get less than a 64MB memory stick though... 2 megapixels are more than enough for viewing on your computer screen and printing on full a4 sheets
Rating: Summary: Good Camera Review: I am sure this is a great camera, but why waste all this money on the extra pixels? I do not have this awesome Sony camera, but i am recommending another SONY DSC camera. The SONY DSC-P20 is a 1.3 Mesgapixel camera that takes great pictures for someone new to digital Cameras. I got mine expecting less than normal film camera clarity, but got at least, if not more than film quality. All you need is the camera, a good Lexmark inkjet, and some Photo quality Paper for photo quality prints! Since i got the Camera, i have always looked to SONY for my digital stuff. I am sure this is a great camera, but why waste all this money on the extra pixels? If you just want normal picture quality, look lower in the 1.3-1.5 megapixel range. My SONY camera is actually my 5th digital camera, because all the others werent up to my high quality standards.
Rating: Summary: Great!!! Review: This camera is my second digital camera the first one was a web camera wich took horrable pictures compared to my new camera. This is a very nice camera it takes clear and crisp pictures and is well worth the money. I especially like the multi burst feature. I like everything about it. It also looks really cool. It was a little hard to work everything at first but the manual explained everything very well. The menus were easy to work. The editing software was very easy to use and looked even better. If you are looking for a great camera at an even better price this is right for you.
