Summary: My first "dip" into digital waters...! ==> Great Success
Review: Have enjoyed my HP 215 for several months. I am very pleased with all results. Would have paid more to get Quality -but- did not have to ... this little guy is great. Small, easy to carry about ... always at the ready! All PICS are stored on my harddrive. I use at "high resolution" -- clear cameras memory and shoot on with happenings in my family. In doors / outdoors, my HP 215 easily records LIFE.

Summary: Good value
Review: This little camera works. By contrast, my new, four-times more expensive 3.1 megapixel camera died within two months and is off to the manufacturer (not HP) by mail for repair under warranty. I hope I see it again. I bought the HP as an interim replacement and to have as a backup.

It's strictly a simple point-and-shoot, no optical zoom, no shutter- or aperture-priority overrides, few bells and whistles. It has no lens cover, which is a major drawback since the lens can easily be smudged by fingers, etc. But the simple software works faultlessly, which my much more expensive camera's did not until upgraded from the manufacturer's website and with some further help from their customer service. As a backup camera, adequate for email pictures and snapshots, the HP seems fine.

I don't have enough experience with the HP yet to comment on battery life. Based on what other reviewers have said, I will keep an eye on that, minimize use of the LCD and shut the camera off between pictures. I think that as long as I carry along an extra set of fresh AA's, I'll be OK.

Summary: Cumple con su cometido: Tomar fotos!

Summary: I too am unhappy about battery usage
Review: I took a set of 80 pictures around the house in 30 minutes using the LCD before I received indications that the battery life was down. But in the field I get fewer pictures. I missed my chance to trade up because I realized too late that it drained battery power at an excessive rate. I am going to try NiMHs that one reviewer recommended. Considering what I use the camera for, the other limitations as expressed by other reviewers are not that much of a problem for me. I would definitely want to purchase a higher-line digital camera if I was serious about digital camera photography.

Summary: Very good but not great
Review: This is my first experience with a digital camera. So far it has been very good. The quality of the pics have been outstanding. This camera does eat the AA batteries and the nagging lag time from when the shutter button is pushed and the moment a photo is aquired is annoying. I have lost a few good shots. I can live with it. I like the ability to review thumbnail pics and pick and choose the ones to print in full size. Quality in very fine mode is a bit grainy at 8x10 size. Still having fun with sharing the pics with family and friends. I did buy a recharger and rechargeable batteries so that has helped with the cost of batteries. I also aquired a 64 mb flash card and this will hold far more pics than I can take on any one outing and may be enough for a whole vacation (with enough batteries). Download time is acceptable and software is very easy to use. 4 star instead of five because of the lag time and battery use.

Summary: Worth the buck
Review:

Battery Life: I was apprehensive while buying this camera, because some reviews pointed out that the battery life is too short. But it turned out to me that they lasted longer than I think they would. They have lasted for 34 snaps and 8 USB transfers, which is super good.

Rechargable Batteries : Yes, the manual says, dont use them. But, a friend of mine has been using them with no problems so far. So I started using them with no problems so far. The best that is out there is Energizer universal recharger. A tip from experienced people is to buy NiMH 1600mA rechargable batteries. I found good energizer 1600NiMH Batteries , and bought them.

Memory : The default memory (4MB)is good for 16-20 snaps. Currently two leading manufactures (SanDisk and Viking) are offering mail in rebates. So you will get a good 64MB memory for around 49 bucks. I feel its a must to have extra memory.

...

Quality: I loved the pictures. They are not super fine , but , really good enough for me. Once I got the kick of just clicking and being able to email it using my PC instantly, I cant stop to shoot. I wish I bought a digital camera like this , long back.

Verdict (IMHO) : Go get it.

Summary: Great Camera for the price
Review: I shopped around a great deal. I need a camera just to post photos on the internet. It was suggested by the salesman that I purchase one ... So I did some shopping instead. This camera has all the quality and ease of use that one person could need for internet photos. It is also a great snapshot camera as well. The software couldn't be easier and has had no problems with my system. In other words, I would buy it again if need be.

Summary: Best of its price range, but...
Review: This camera is the best of its price range. It uses flashcards, has auto focus, compact flashcards, a macro capability, and a flash. This set of features makes it a real point-and-shoot camera. To get more, you've gotta spend another $300.

The downside? Batteries. HP says you can't use rechargeables, but without them the camera insists on expensive lithium batteries. Most users ignore HP and use NiMH batteries anyways, which makes it a usable camera. Also, I wish I had a zoom.

Summary: Power requirements
Review: Previous review accurate enough, but....the user's manual states that rechargable batteries MUST NOT be used. Hello, regular battery high costs, because they don't last very long.
