Rating: Summary: Almost Perfect Review: Three things they should've thought of...1. a lens cap 2. video out jack for TV connectivity and 3. rechargable batteries.
Rating: Summary: diasppointing Review: Most of the pictures were not very good quality. Sometimes it would quit working after a few shots. Sometimes it would refuse to turn off unless I removed the batteries. I ended up sending it back due to all the problems.
Rating: Summary: Decent camera missing a few key features. Review: At the time of this writing I have owned the camera for a week. I have outfitted it with a 64 MB CF card, and use a card reader rather than software/cable to upload the pictures. I am pleasently surprised with the image quality, and over all performance. Sometimes pictures come out too dark, or the camera focuses on something I don't intend, but if you're used to using automatic cameras rather than manuals that should be acceptable to you. Please notice that the lens is over on the extreme left of the camera, it even sticks out a little past the body of the camera. This will be bad for some people and good for others. My girlfriend is left handed, and everytime she touches the thing she wraps her paws over the lens. I however am right handed, and have a very long nose. With other cameras in the past I have had difficulty framing shots because my nose would be pressed into the back of the camera, this would move the viewfinder away from my eye, skew the view, and decrease the accuracy of my pictures. Now this camera is placed next to rather than in front of my nose, so I have no problem at all with this, this has been a particular delight of this camera's design. So far I only have three complaints, depressing the shutter to take a picture is a slightly peculiar affair... It has a half-depressed button function for setting the focus, and light metering (nice feature for those of us used to manuals), the problem is that this button press feels like it ought to be the complete depress. It's hard to know sometimes how hard to depress the button or how long in each step, but I'm sure I will get the hang of it. There are two more important complaints I have... no lens cap! There's nothing protecting my camera's eyeball! Do not drop this camera, do not set it anywhere, do nothing but store it in a lined camera bag or you will risk damaging the camera. No rechargeable batteries. According to the manufacturer rechargeables will damage the electronics. For many people the reason to buy a digital camera is to save money on film, and processing. You wont do that with this camera, you will spend almost the same amount on batteries. I am satisfied with the camera, but will be certain that the next digital camera I buy (probably 2-5 years from now) will support rechargeables, have more manual options, and have a lens cap. I will update this review if I have any significant problems with the camera.
Rating: Summary: A good buy only if very low on cash Review: I wanted to play around with a digital camera and the HP215 was the cheapest 1.3MP camera on the market when I bought it. Unfortunately after using it for a while I got hooked on digital photography and could no longer stand it. The camera iself is too big and heavy to fit into any pocket, not even a jacket. It takes much too long to take a picture. When people hear the little click noise it makes while focusing, they think the picture has been taken and start moving right before the flash, creating some horrible shots. Sometimes it doesn't focus well indoors and the colors are all wrong. Don't even think of using this camera with anything except NiMH batteries. Regular batteries will get you 10 shots and the new pictures start degrading when betteries get low. The LCD screen is fairly large but is way too weak and hard to look at from an angle. To conclude, the camera has a lot of physical design flaws, and indoor pictures suck. It works very well outdoors but still not as great as a more expensive higher quality digital camera. I would not recommend it to anyone who has more than $[price] to spend.
Rating: Summary: Batteries? Review: I can take two (2) pictures without using the instant review function and my batteries run dry. Tech support at Hewlett Packard says this is normal. I find it highly excessive. I'm not sure if I'll keep this camera.
Rating: Summary: Undecided Review: I received this item as a gift for Christmas. There were three things that stood out after using it for a short while:1. Short Battery Life: This item came with the new Energizer Titaniums. They were drained like a vampire sucking blood from it's victim! I have rechargeables that I am using to compensate for this problem. I didn't remember reading anything about not being able to use them with this camera. 2. Viewfinder: Not very accurate. Things were off a bit to the right or left, or the top of the subject I was taking was cut off. I would have to take or "waste" shots just to get is right. Using the LCD as a viewfinder might be a bit more accurate, but it's like watching a slow motion movie! 3. Picture quality: On basic it was just that. the HP c200 is the camera I borrowed from my folks. I'm not sure if it's an older model but even at basic quality the pictures were great. I still have to try and take photos on fine to see the difference. So I still need to play around with this some more. I plan on using it to take pics for listings on Ebay.
Rating: Summary: You just have to know how to use it to love it! Review: Ok, everywhere I go people are complaining about this camera! I've had the camera 4 days thats all! I know it is going to work well. People always complain about it being a battery sucker yes it is, bat all digital cameras are! off of a set of plain duracells I get 40+ pictures w/o flash and w/o instant preveiw. people hate that they can't use rechargables, so I never liked using them anyways! The two step button for taking the picture get a clue it's a smart idea! press it down halfway to focus, then when the green light goes press it all the way down to take the picture! The flash is a bit of a hasle but it is bareable. on the LCD above the preveiw screen there is the flash icon, it blinks when it is charging. The camera stores imagaes off in JPEG format on a dos compatable CompactFlash card. Lexar Media makes some really good mem cards, and they are USB enabled! they have this USB adaptor called a Jumpshot that when you plug it in and plug the memory in you can go to "my computer" and click on it as if it was a hard-drive! you dont need the stupid software. I'v own there other cameras, a Casio QV-10, a mustek VDC-300, and a HP Photosmart 318. given the 215 is not as good as the 318, but it does have macro. so I can be 4 inches away and get a good picture! Basicly this camera takes beutiful pictures and is a wonderfull deal. but if you have the extra $100 get a HP 318 it's a better long run camera.
Rating: Summary: Great value camera Review: I purchased this camera to take on a vacation. Before leaving, I tried it out, and immediately bought a 64 memory card. Also, I find that the viewfinder seems a little off-center, and the flash takes what seems like a long time.......All things that I have to adjust for. I also spent [amt] for 8 rechargeable batteries, and a charger, because it REALLY eats up the batteries. I am very happy with the rechargeable ones - This camera takes great pics, both for viewing on monitor, and for printing - I have printed pics up to 6" x 8", with great results. For the money, I am really happy with the camera, I bought one for my son for Christmas, as his first-time digital camera. The cost of the camera, larger memory card, and rechargeable batteries & charger, came to about [amt] - GREAT DEAL !
