Summary: nikon 885 A great digital camera
Review: I just purchase a Nikon 885 and I'm really happy with it, I bought it at Best buy for 599.00 and they give you 64meg card for free. You can get the camera cheaper online but I prefer to buy items like this site on seen. It's very easy to use the menus are user friendly and the pictures come out great. It's definately a lot smaller than it looks in the picture. I definately would recommend using rechargeable batteries and have a few set aside if you plan on taking a lot of picutures. The 16 meg card is pretty much useless so I would recommend at least 64 megs. I would definately recommend this camera to the person who want's to take quality pictures..........

Summary: Great Camera, But...
Review: I love this camera. There is a slight delay when taking pictures between when you press the button and when it takes the picture, but it is not that bad. You will need a rechargerable battery & charger ($100) and a larger memory card(if you intend to go away from your computer for a while with it.) It is also a lot smaller than it looks in the pictures on the web.

Summary: A lot of problems
Review: I purchased this for over $500 back in 2001. When I received it on the first day, it has a "System Error" showing on the screen. I mailed it back and received another brand new Coolpix 885.
In these 3 years, I found a lot of inconvenience. (1) Lense cover is manual. I have to remember to remove it before I turn on the camera. If I don't, I have to turn it off and then remove lense cover and then turn it on again. (2) It is a battery eater. (3) Original battery has a very short life. I threw away 2 dead batteries in 3 yrs. (3) It takes a while for the next shot. After I shoot the first photo, I have to wait for 5-10 seconds for the camera to adjust for the next one. Even I use fully charged battery, speed is still low. Speed is fast only when I use an adaptor. (4) To transfer photos from camera to pc, the lense cover has to be closed. If I forget, I have to turn it off and close the lense cover and then on again. (5) The size is not small. (6) My camera just has a minor drop on wood floor days ago, it shows "System Error" again. I emailed to Nikon for tech support. Well, they say some parts inside could be broken and it needs repair. Well, guess this is the time to buy another brand of digital camera. Both of my sisters use Canon and they are very good.
Add'l comment: In terms of the picture quality, Coolpix 885 is very good.

Summary: Love it but ready for next step
Review: I really like this camera. It takes great pictures and is easy to use from still shots to soundless videos.
This was my first digital camera. I bought this in 2001 for big money.
After first purchasing it, I ran into a problem with the EL-EN battery not holding a charge. After many stressful attempts with Nikon to resolve the issue - I was able to send the battery back to them for an exchange (although they state they do not warranty the battery). In the mean time, I bought a Lenmar battery as a spare - so now I always keep one charged and ready to go. I would also suggest buying additional memory so you don't run out of space like I did ONCE on vacation.
I am beginning to feel a need for a new Nikon with some features that this camera can't give me. I would like the continuous shot as the recovery time on this camera can seem slow when your trying to take action or quick shots (wedding, etc).
Overall this has been a great camera. I plan to buy from Nikon again. I love the size and hand grip and have no major complaints. :)

Summary: Nice camera!
Review: I really like this camera. Nice and small, easy to handle and easy to use. It's a great multi-role camera which can handle point and shoot but is great for "growing into" when you need manual controls or need some creative freedom. The main criticism I have is the stupid lens cap design (should be integrated) and the over-saturated reds (can be overcome in software). In shots with extremely strong sunlight there is some chromatic aberration but it's not enough to worry me.

All in all, a fantastic little camera. Almost as good as its big brother but in a much smaller package.

Summary: Workhorse
Review: In the last two years, I have taken over 8000 photos with this camera, dropped it several times and it lives in a diaper bag or pocket most of the time and it still takes beautiful photos with no sophisiticated settings. Its 3MP output is more than adequate for family (nonprofessional) photos and prints them up to 8x10 with no quality degredation.

Summary: coolpix headache
Review: Is Nikon still the best? They may be, or maybe not,it doesn't make any difference. The aggaravation they give their customers make that a mute point.. After the camera arrives, you can use it about a half hour and that's it. Just try finding the parts you need to actually use this camera. I was willing spend hours on the 200 page manual but not hours on the internet trying to find the missing essential parts ( no one seems to sell both the charger and the battery and everyone wants to sell subs.) And Nikon is no help at all. They're willing to sell incomplete cameras through lots of internet suppliers but will only offer guidance to old style retail stores for parts, none of which are anywhere nearby. .tom

Summary: The 885 has problems
Review: The biggest problems with this camera are the short battery life (90 minutes with the LCD viewer on) and the color of anything red in a picture. The price should include a caveat that you'll either spend $.../battery or need to get the $... or more rechargable. The bigger issue is the color of red - stands out in almost every picture. There is not currently a way to correct this problem on the camera - you have to correct using picture editing software. You can see view this color problem on some digital camera review sites by looking at the photographic tests.... Nikon recently responded to my questions on the red saturation, saying that they know of the problem and are working on it. On the positive side the camera has great features, is easy to use and other than the 'red' problem takes excellent picture. Unless you don't plan on taking pictures that include red objects or don't mind editing most of your picture with software, I'd wait until this problem is fixed to purchase this camera.

Summary: way cool
Review: this camera does just about everything you'd expect it to & probably a little more!!! a great camera & a great buy....you must, however, as everyone else says buy at least 64-128 MB C.Flash memory & a couple of rechargable batteries (En-El1)...these add ons will save you lots of frustration & in return you get lots of high quality pics !!! this camera is extremely small...it looks big in the picture, but it is alot smaller than i originally thought it would be...to me, that's another plus for the CoolPix 885...get it while the gettin is good...
