Summary: I am totally surprised BEST QUALITY! and so less price
Review: I bought this camera with wishes of quite good quality and I didn't know anything more but possibility of doing 2.0mpixels photos, some movies and I've been informed about the outputs only, The price made me ready to buy.
And what? When I opened the box and took first photos I was totally shocked of extremely easy and proof photo system. Quality of pictures is very good. The colors are professional, nice and true, flash brights good and ppl look naturally (i had kodak cx4200 which took horrible pictures, ppl's skin looked so artificial)
Also ISO is nice, with very bright lens and ISO to 200 is enough and pictures are clear and there is no noise.
Everything automatic, and fast shot makes this camera very useful.
Very good for ppl who need to have cam on standby, to shot fast pictures, family cam or cam for kids.
Very good also for pictures in home. I haven't tried this cam to landscapes, but in home it works just perfect.

Summary: Great camera for the price
Review: I bought this one just yesterday. I am happy for its features. Except for one thing it doesn't have optical zoom. But considering price and other features, i greatly recommend this camera for you.

Summary: not pleased
Review: I enjoyed very much the older version , the Olympus D-380. This camera (d-390) does not seem to produce the same beautiful colors that the older version produced. also the quality of the picture shown in the LCD was much sharper in the older version.

Summary: Excellent choice for Amateurs
Review: I have purchased this camera and I am very happy with the results. All I wanted to do was to take quick pictures for emailing to friends and family and this camera is excellent for this and absolutely a good bargain for the low price. Advantages for the first time digital photo user: 1) Affordable 2) Excellent pictures 3) User friendly features
Forget about the video mode; if you want to make a video film buy a video camera !

Summary: Excellent Camera, Excellent Price!
Review: I highly recommend this camera! For its price range, this is the best digital camera I have tried. The picture quality is excellent, the settings give you a lot of options, and the camera, as well as its software, are very easy to use. If you are looking for a decent digital camera for a lower price, this one is the perfect choice. However, I will agree with many other people here in suggesting you buy lithium batteries, as regular alkalines will go fast!

Summary: Good camera for your money
Review: I just bought this camera and find that it takes good pictures and downloads easily to a computer. As for the movie mode if you were looking for something that has sound or lasts longer you should have read the box it clearly states that the movie mode does not record sound and is only 15 secs. You cannot expect a camera that is under 200.00 to act like one that is priced over 300. You get what you pay for don't expect professional grade pictures from this camera if that is what you want dig a little deeper and shell out the extra cash for a better camera.

Summary: You CAN turn off auto reset!
Review: I just figured out a cure for what everybody is blabbing about! Everybody is saying "the d-390 doesn't save your settings after you turn it off!" Well, you are wrong! All you have to do is this:

1. Push the OK button

2. Go to Mode Menu

3. Go down to "set" with your down button

4. Go to "all reset" and pick "off"

5. Now your camera will NOT reset everything! Perfect cure!

Summary: Nice Camera for the money
Review: I just got this camera about a week ago and have been playing around with it to get a feel for it. Overall I'm very happy with it. The picture quality seems on par for other 2mp cameras, the shudder time isn't too bad, it has a cool feature where you can push the button down half-way to get a better focus and then click it fully for it to take a quick picture. The zoom could have been better but what do you expect when it doesn't have an optical zoom. One complaint was that it doesn't automatically save your settings. Everytime I changed the resolution from 1600x1400 to 1024x768, when I would turn the camera off and back on I'd have to change the rez again. There is an obscure thing that you have to switch to prevent this automatic reset.

One question I have for people that have this item, does the flash have a preflash for you? I have never seen this in a digital camera. Usually the flash is just one burst of light, but with this camera there is a preflash that is like 2 or 3 quick flashes and THEN the real flash. I know the red-eye reduction feature also has a pre-flash, but this isn't as severe as that. It's a very quick 2 or 3 preflashes. I'm just wondering if all of these cameras have that.

Summary: Pros, cons, and tips
Review: I like my Olympus D-390, but here are some faults I find with it:

- doesn't use power from USB when transferring photos to computer -- drains batteries instead!
- no optical zoom
- can't turn on menus when lens barrier is closed
- no dock
- no battery charger
- must wade through menus to get to scene selector (portrait, macro, landscape etc.) -- wish this was on a physical dial like on Canons

Stuff I really like

- price ($... Cdn at ...)
- self-portrait mode, where you can point the camera at yourself (is this mode unique to Olympus?)
- lens barrier, which doubles as power switch (lower-end cameras like Kodak's often don't even have a lens cap)
- quality: 2 megapixels are adequate for 5x7's

Tips
- by default, all the settings reset when you turn the camera off. Set it so that it doesn't do this (see manual for details)
- set the flash to be always off! On one shot it made my mom look like a ghost. Besides, with it off, pictures will appear as in their natural light.

Update 2004-11-29
My mom just got a Canon A-75, and I am sooo jealous! It just pampers you. And macro mode is a physical control - no wading through menus to get to it! Be good to yourself and buy a Canon A-75 (or the A400, which is almost as good and costs a hundred bucks less).
