Summary: Good Camera, Not So Great Software
Review: My husband purchased this camera for me Christmas 2003. I love to take pictures using my daughter as the subject. This was my first digital camera. I love the quality of the pictures and its ability to capture images in b/w, sepia, color... It is very easy to use. However, the software is not so fantastic. The worst part is that when upgrades to the software become available you have to download them from the computer which takes over an hour. Kodak will not send you a courtesy upgrade cd. I would even pay a few $ for this convenience. They do provide online help where they respond to your email the very next day. I did have loooots of problems with this software and I am familiar with technology. I was impressed when I found out that other lenses could be purchased (I guess it is sort of a SLR camera a little...). I turned off the lights and took a picture of my daughter with her lighted jack-o-lantern for Halloween and took a picture using the night vision and it was so clear, you would have thought that the lights were on. Overall, good camera, not so sure about the software.

Summary: Back to the Past
Review: I just bought the Kodak DX6490. It remided me of my old and faithfull Kodak Retina IIIc. The leather case, the feel of the camera, the Schneider Kreuznach lens. A wonderfull camera. Congatulations to Kodak for going back to a great tradition.

Summary: Great camera, very good on the Mac
Review: I use my Mac for all my digital images (I really like iPhotos) When I got the camera I was afraid I would have to use their software to get the pictures off of the camera. I was very happy to find that it works well with iPhotos (you only loss the use of the share button, if that is important to you, keeping all my pictures in one place was more important to me) The images are great quality for home use. I use the burst mode (take up to 6 pictures in less then 3 seconds) to get action shots (start taking just before the picture I want, and keep going though till after and hope for the best) In Pasm mode you can change the shutter speed and other settings. The LCD is good for reviewing the pictures you just took and deleting the ones you don't want to keep. It uses the standard SD card for expanded memory (one reason I would not get a Sony since they don't support SD cards) The 10x optical zoom is what got me to get the camera, the greatest in all the cameras I looked at that made use of the SD care standard.

Summary: I am so happy with this camera.
Review: I bought a digital camera years ago, before I knew the difference between a good camera and a bad camera.

I have been shopping for a GOOD dig camera for a year now. I didn't want to buy a camera, just to find out it didn't have the features I would use and need every day. Yet, I WASN'T sure exactly what those features were. I knew the resolution was important and also the mega pixels, but what about all the other options out there on the market?

Then one day, while in Circuit City, my husband went to one part of the store while I went to another. I didn't realize that he was checking out THIS camera upon the reccomendation of one of his co-workers. He (also the salesmen) showed me the camera, the zoom, the screen size, and how easily it finds into the hand. Then, they showed me the SHARE button. I was sold on it! (I have yet to use the SHARE button, but am entirely happy with the camera, none the less).

This camera takes pictures that make you re-live the moment. Our family went to a waterpark recently. I took over 100 pics. When I came home and displayed them as a slideshow. It took your breath away, beautiful colors. You could see every droplet of water from my children splashing.

A friend of mine is a SONY SNOB. Only buys SONY products. He has a mid-range Sony dig camera (I am not sure of the meg pix or the model # of the camera). We were at the SAME event recently and exchanged pics. His were dull, sometimes fuzzy looking. But the most noticeable thing about his pics were the color. They just didn't have the clarity of the pics from my camera.

I ordered the camera from Amazon, as I am a loyal customer. If you really want to know about the camera before you buy it. Do what I did, try it in the store. You won't regret it.

Summary: ONE HECK OF A CAMERA!
Review: WOW! I had this camera given to me as a gift knowing its quite demanding price of $500. But it's worth every penny! It has everything! You can take any shot you want to with every feature known to man to help you out. Check it out:

- PASM mode equipes you with not only full creative control of F-Stops and aperture, but also with a 16-second to 1/1000 of a second shutter speed to really keep the action shots sharp or to create a purposely fuzzy image

- Burst feature helps you really get multiple great shots at say, fireworks, or a baseball swing. This feature can shoot six photos per second!

- Ten-second timer

- Once you have focused on the image, the camera will give you warnings if you are about to take a pretty crappy photo!

- Multiple zoom zones so putting what you want to see into focus is easy

- Catch a beautiful, wide lake, or a tiny red flower with the landscape feature, and the close-up feature!

- Flash modes include:
- red-eye
- automatic flash adjustment (auto)
- regular flash

- You can choose weather you would like the date stamped onto each picture

- You can also choose between many different special effects (this list includes some effects you can use on the free software)
- sepia (western)
- black and white
- saturated color (intensified color)
- cartoon
- coloring book
- fish-eye

- You can tag a photo to be emailed right when you dock it into your computer

- You can even protect a photo from being deleted

- With a four megapixel sensor and a whopping ten-x optical zoom, you can still have a breath-taking photo from a distance!

These are just a few of the hundreds of features on this camera! I would seriously suggest this for your all purpose shooting!

Summary: Great Camera
Review: As my family's main photgrapher, I always wanted to buy a digital camera. The problem was that it was too expensive. Fortunateyl, Chirstmas puts love in your heart and takes cash out of your wallet, and my parents got me one. Boy, was I surpised by how great it was.

This may well be the best digital csmera ever. The zoom is great, and it's easy to use. There are four ways to take pictures with it:

Auto - used for general picture taking and the one I mostly use.

PASM: Used to access manual camera settings

Sport - Used when object is in motion

Video - Used to capture motion and sound (I dont use this one because this one takes up too much space)

Portrait - Used for full - frame photos of people and other subjects

Night - Used at night to capture subject and background

This are the explenations as written on the camera screen.

My favorite feature of the camera is that you can change the colors of the pictures. There's "saturated" (which is the one I usually use), "neutral", "black and white" and my personal favorite "sepia". I am also glad that you can delete pictures you don't want. You don't kow how many pictures I had to get rid of with throwaway ameras. Plus it saves film and money.

I highly recommnd this digital camera. It's a photgraoher's dream that you can take anywhere. My only gripe is that it doesn't come with the chip. I once took a whole batch of pictures without a chip and as a result couldn't print them.

Summary: I finally have a grownup camera!
Review: I have had 2 other cheap digital cameras before that took pretty good pictures of things I sold on ebay and some outside scenery, but this new Kodak DX 6490 makes the other cameras I had look so bad it is unbelievable. This 6490 is very easy to work and does everything that most people would want in a picture. It does things that I couldn't even think of doing with my other cameras. If I had to say anything bad about it I guess it would be the size of it, but that really doesn't make any difference to me as I was used to carrying around a 35m for quite a long time befoe this new Kodak. The other thing is if you get a memory card for it you can take many many pictures and then just take the card out and run into a Walmart or some other place that has the picture developing equipment for the little memory cards and have your prints made in 15 or so min's. and you can pick the ones you want to print, and they come out looking better than any 35m I have had. Buy one you won't be disappointed.
