Rating: Summary: This is the coolest little recorder! Review: Panasonic SV-AV10 Online Review March 10, 2003This unit is incredible for a variety of reasons; it's a pocket-sized piece of electronics that records digital video, stills, voice/audio and plays MP3's - all wrapped up in one. The AV10 also comes with a 64MB SD memory card, which are about the size of a postage stamp. Actually I'm planning on buying another SD card (256MB) not just for more storage - these cards have fast data rates and easily store multiple formats including the MPEG4 video and JPEG photos that you shoot using the unit. The MPEG4 video clips and JPEG photos can also be transferred to your PC by plugging the reader/writer adapter into your computer, where you can add effects, email, or post online. Using the 64MB SD card that comes with it, you can record as much as 80 minutes of video. God knows how many minutes of video you can store if use a 256MB card - doing the math I would imagine it would store 320 minutes or so in the economy mode. Finally, as for stills, the 64MB SD card will hold approximately 1760 pictures depending upon what you shoot of course. So I've been taking this handy dandy thing with me pretty much everywhere. Actually I was really happy I had it the other day when I needed to take pictures of cars that I wanted to show a friend of mine (I sent him an email with the shots attached). I'm pretty happy with it and use more often than I originally thought and you probably will too.
Rating: Summary: Cool Gadget Review: Really cool little unit. The digital camera/camcorder/MP3 player fits my need for an all in one. Play your tunes and record your video. If you are looking for a relatively inexpensive all in one, this is it.
Rating: Summary: u can do better Review: sure this little fella looks pretty cool, mp3 player, camcorder, digital camera. Dont get this if u want quality or even semi-good picture. The camera is horrible and the camcorder is too choppy. All this is is one of those pen cams with an mp3 player and a screen. For the price of this thing and an ok memory card for it u could buy a low end digital camcorder that probably has 10 times the quality of this. You cant hold much high quality video on a 512mb card which can cost over a 100 bucks. I got a Sony DCR PC3 handycam. it can store 60 minutes of video and cd quality sound on a mini dv tape that cost like 10 bucks each. Sure the camcorder i got is much pricier but you willl definitly find a better deal. This thing is like a little toy compared to a real camcorder
Rating: Summary: A pretty good buy Review: The Panasonic SVAV10 MPEG4 Digital Camcorder with still mode/mp3/voice recording is a surprising product. It is lightweight and very portable. It has come to my attention that some do not believe it to be a safe buy, claiming it has a horrible picture quality. The truth is, don't judge a book by its cover. Just because it is small doesn't destroy it's ability to record nice. The memory card in which it records on is quite possibly the future of digital media storage. It is being adopted by most all electronic producers, for the purpose of storing mp3s, mpegs, jpegs, pda files, etc... This is the new path of technology. The video compression is a nice 320 x 240, which is actually the standard for pixelation of television shows. And as for file format problems, someone has obviously not searched anywhere online. The reviewer was correct in stating that MS has tried to abolish file-converting programs, but I was able to find the software I needed in under 20 minutes, with some help from Google ( just type in "how to make a VCD" and browse search results). It will always be out there, the same way that mp3s will always be availible to download, its all in where you look. I mean sure, its nothing when compaired to professional cameras, but those can also run you a good [$$$]. Its a perfect camera for fun and recreation, and is small enough to make you the life of the party. In addition, for those who think it doesn't store enough data, the cards are expected to hold 1 GB by the end of 2002. As my final thought, I would like to express my concern to a review on Amazon by a reviewer stating the two major flaws; I have noticed it on several different cameras, all of which state the same exact quotes. I would hope that no one would intentionally spread misinformation just as a prank. The reviews are a spot for real information to be spread
Rating: Summary: Think Dynamite: Small and Powerful. Review: The SV-AV10 does it all. Video-Audio-Still and Voice records. I purchased this for my son as a B-Day gift and he just loves it. In fact, I now need to buy one these useful little gadgets for my daughter. Although the unit is a little small, it adapts well in field. No more need to carry that cumbersome camcorder around the amusement park or the lake. I may get to use the unit if my son will give it up for few hours.
Rating: Summary: Everything you want and more Review: This camera is absolutely spectacular. I use this both as a digital camera, and a camcorder. It works great on both. It is a must have for anyone that is on the go.

Rating: Summary: Not worth the $ if you're doing more with your camera later Review: This camera may look ultra cool, but believe me, it's not. Unless you don't care much for how your picture quality is, then this camera may be ok, but if you do or eventually will, you are better off getting a better quality camera. There aren't many options for your pictures that you're taking meaning you can't change the lighting effect (inside, outside, cloudy, snow, night, etc), size, picture type (black & white, etc) or many of the other things that you can on other cameras. I found that when pictures were loaded onto the computer, they looked grainy and dull, and if you used the flash, that also seemed to ruin the effect of the picture. There is also no zoom which is one thing I forgot to check out when purchasing this camera. I was not happy with this camera at all after a couple months when I needed better quality photos. The video recorder of the camera was also a disappointment to me. The recording was very choppy and colors again were poor. On the bright side, it recorded the sound well. I had no problem with the MP3 player or audio recorder, they both worked fine and were the quality that one would expect. I now own a Sony Cyber-Shot camera which I am VERY pleased with. Basically you really need to think about what type of pictures you will be taking with your camera and if you want them to be the best quality possible, or if it simply doesn't matter to you to decide if you will be happy with this camera.
Rating: Summary: Micro wear Review: This gadget is pretty cool. Even though the price is kinda high, you actually pay for feature and size. I already have a digital camera and a video cam and webcam bla bla but I bought this item from a store that game me 30 days to return it, full refund. I think Im going to keep it. First I will talk about the still photo feature. The photos are 640x480 (standard FUN cam). Your not going to get professional results but you will catch pictures like a fun cam. The video camera feature is cool. You wont get steady streaming video but you will get video that you can instantly send over email. It catches FUN situations. The cam technology is like those small pin hole cameras and you know how much those are. Then you have a mp3 player. Im listening to it right now while Im typing this review. It will hold as many and the sd memory will hold. When you buy this device you get a 64mb card, earphones, small felt case and software and card reader. You have to use REAL jukebox (supplied) to format and transfer your mp3s but so what. I have no problems with this camera. For [price] (oklahoma) you get a 640x480 still FUN cam, the ability to take 20min of its max res of video with descent sound compression (mono), built in flash, voice recorder and mp3 player. The physical size of this device is amazing. so if you figure out the cost of all of these devices and it uses sd technology the selling price is kinda close. The main reason for this device is FUN FUN FUN FUN FUN. Its a gadget. Its cool technology. Look at pdas. they are getting smaller with loads of features. Go out and try the AV device out. some stores will let you return it. They are selling like hot cakes. If you have the opportunity to purchase an extended warranty i would definately do it. Dont buy this for your main source of video or pictures. This is for FUN!
Rating: Summary: Know what to expect Review: This is a first-generation digital convergence gadget, so you should know what to expect when you consider it. It's basically a very cool toy, but with lots of limitations. Panasonic touts this as a 4-in-1 device: you can record MPEG4 video, digital photographs, and audio, and can play back MP3 and AAC digital music, all in an amazingly tiny package that weighs no more than 4 ounces with battery and SD memory card. BTW, now you can buy Secure Digital memory card of up to 512MB, with 1GB on the way, so the SVAV-10 can be expanded easily. The SV-AV10, which is recently joined by two newer models SV-AV20 and SV-AV30, comes with a 64MB Secure Digital (SD) memory card, on which you can record up to 30 minutes of MPEG4 video. However, this is at the lower resolution of 174x124. If you go up to the "fine" mode, which shoots at 320x240, you can obviously fit a shorter footage. The framerate is 15 frames per second (vs. 25 fps for the NTSC video standard used by American TVs and camcorders), so the video is a bit jerky, much like using a webcam. The minimum required illumination is 120 lux, so you won't be able to shoot anything at a candlelight dinner. This is what I mean by "knowing your expectations." This is not to replace your regular camcorder; it's really a toy that you can carry 24 hours a day and capture those moments that no one could expect ahead of time. The digital camera function captures images in the 640x480 resolution, and the SV10 has a built-in flash (but no optical zoom). Image quality is so-so; I'd say it's something you'd expect from an inexpensive digital camera that still shoots at this resolution. Given lots of lighting, the quality is quite acceptable. (Of course, you probably can't print the photos of this resolution. So don't throw away your regular, 2+MP digital camera yet.) Panasonic claims you can record up to 880 images on a single 64MB SD card. I haven't tested that claim yet. Voice recording is nothing to write about; the quality is acceptable but again nothing on par with a dedicated device. MP3 and AAC (AAC is a better-than-MP3 encoding format; see my review of the Panasonic MP3-in-a-headphone model) playback is excellent, although you don't get too many options. The included stereo earphones are good, although you can always substitute your own ones. Because of its small size, the SV10 only has a small number of buttons: one record button at the top, one power button that also opens the menu on the 2-inch LCD screen, one "mode" button that switches between play and record on the LCD, and one jog-dial button that plays, forwards and rewinds. The user interface is quite intuitive; you just need to know what the mode button does. You can transfer files between the SV10 and your PC via the included USB cable and software. Everything works smoothly on my Windows 2000 and also a Windows 98 SE PC. For a super-cool AV (audio/video, not "adult video"!) toy, the price is surprisingly affordable -- you can find it for cheap at some places, hopefully at Amazon soon -- and this is will impress the heck out of your friends. Note: The newer AV20 and AV30, which only recently hit the retail market in the U.S., have the same resolution and frame rate as the AV10. They are slightly smaller and lighter, but their LCD screen has less resolution than AV10. Of course, this means they are more battery-efficient than AV10. AV30 comes with a cradle that allows you to play back on a TV, plus recording stuff from the TV!
