Rating: Summary: More then I expected Review: I ordered the camera after doing many reviews from different web pages. To me the words "Infared Capable" means that it has the ability, but you probably need to by an add on. When I recieved the camera and starting playing with it, I found that this feature is built in. Many of features that are normally addons for other cameras are standard on this camera. For the price, this camera rocks.
Rating: Summary: This camera is the worst Review: I recently purchased this camera and thought it would be the best bang for the buck. I took it out of the box, read the instructions, and began to use it. To my dismay, when I played the footage I took on my TV, I found that the picture was pixelated and the sound would keep cutting off. I called Sharp customer service and they were not able to solve my problem. Nevertheless, everything else seemed to work fine. The infrared worked perfectly and I was very happy with the stills. It is very easy to use once you get the hang of it. Other people seem to have better luck than me, except for one other person who had the same problem. Overall, I would not recommend this camcorder.
Rating: Summary: you get what you pay for Review: My first disappointment was that the camera is much bulkier in reality than it looks on all pictures on the net, so don't be fooled by the favorable angle used while making the shot of the camera. When you hold it feels cheap, according to the price. Vague VCR playback controls that also are controlling LCD menu navigation don't make the experience better. I give a credit for nice Canon lenses and killer 26-x optical zoom. Picture quality is OK, not more. I'd probably be satisfied with the overall package if the camera didn't start to garble the picture after 2 hours of use. I'm going to return it. Never trusted Sharp and likely never will...
Rating: Summary: Nice Camara that does not work Review: I do not recomend buying this camcorder. With my first tape it started to fail. The playback was garbled, the picture quality is terrible. Also, the service center was located 600+ miles away from Kansa City. I have see letters here from others having the same problem and suspect it's not just that I bought a lemon. Its been 4 weeks since I sent it in for repair and they are still waiting for parts...
Rating: Summary: A bargain for great home movies Review: ...For those of you who have done your homework, you know that there are literally hundreds of makes and models. That tells me that, like PCs, video technology is advancing very rapidly. The natural question that follows is whether you want to spend a grand for a camcorder in this age of technology advancement. If what you want is a basic digital camcorder for home videos, then this is it.... I purchased Pinnacle Studio (I got version 7, the latest).... It came with a firewire cable and if you already have a jack for it, then all you do is load the software, connect the camcorder, and start making movies. It really is that simple. Within an hour of opening the package, I was making MPEG movies! Make sure you have enough hard disk space and are running at least Windows 98SE. Although I can't say that I am 100% satisfied with the video quality (I think it could use a higher video resolution), but then I didn't spend ($) more for it. Besides, is there a product that you are ever 100% satisfied with? All in all,... you can have everything you need to start making home movies that you can share with your family and friends over the Internet or by email.
Rating: Summary: to good to be true Review: I strongly recomend not buying this camera. The one I purchased started to fail in two months. The playback was garbled and when it did work, the picture quality is terrible, defeating the purpose of a digital dv recorder. Also, the service center was located 300+ miles away. I live in Phoenix AZ, not the boonies. I have heard of others having the same problem and suspect it may be systemic. Spend the extra money, this one is to good to be true.
Rating: Summary: Help with video transfer Review: Hello, I just bought this very nice camcoder. The reviews I read here were very helpful in making my decision. Some of you seemed to have had success in downloading the video from the camcoder to the PC (I guess in MPEG format). Can anyone help me how to go about doing that? What hardware or additional software are needed? There is no mention of video capturing in the manual that came with the camera. I'd really appreciate any help you can give. Thank you.
Rating: Summary: I like it Review: I've just got it and only played still camera with smart media. To my suprise, it comes with a 110-240 AC charger. ... The Super Cat eye is really super. I can shoot picture in complete darkness. The Gamma is also wonderful for low light condition. Remote control works well. The bundled image transfer and video capture software works beautifully on Windows XP! I printed images as 3.5" picture on a color printer and it looks not bad (doesn't help to print full 8.5x11 size due to 640x480 res.). So many powerful features for such a cheap price!! I'm rushing out now to get some mini dv tapes and a Windows XP for another PC.
Rating: Summary: Playback problems, not too many service centers Review: Pros: Price is definitely was the deciding factor for the features that came with it. Great battery life, light and easy to use Cons: Have problems during playback, After 15 minutes of playback, display starts breaking up and eventually turns to blue, will play AFTER awhile. Secondly, SHARP's CUSTOMER SERVICE and TECHNICAL SUPPORT is NO GOOD, USELESS and are only trained to send your camera to the NEAREST Service Center which is 300 Miles away at my own EXPENSE (less than a month old camera, brand new)
Rating: Summary: Great low light Features, wish there was better quality! Review: I looked long and hard at different cameras in this price range, what I found was you needed to spend $ for a really good camera. This camera is very good. There are excellent low light features that make a world of difference in how your video comes out. I am disapointed in the actuall quality 460,000 CCD. I was going to buy the Panasonic for that reason but that camera had no low light features. After my first made video I could see how dark it came out while shooting in the house, which I though was good light? Don't be fooled that low light features are not important. I reshot the video with the Gamma on and it was as clear as daylight. The controls are easy to use a little cumbersome but after a few minutes you can figure them out. It is light easy to operate once you set the time etc. The extended microphone also makes a great difference in the sound quality. It picks up every sound clear as a bell. The still pictures are horrible so do not buy this camera for that feature. They are grainy and distorted and not good at all. They are easily transferred to your computer though even without a USB cable. I wish they added some video editing software but you can't ask for everything for this price. I am very pleased and would reccommend this camera. Please purchase the bundled "Pinnacle DV software" and IEEE1394 card version 7.0. It is about $ but awesome and well worth a few extra bucks. You can make full fledged movies with music, voice over, editing, text, etc all with a click of a mouse!
