Summary: a great investment, a cool player!
Review: After trying other MP3 players, I decided to take the plunge and buy this little player. Yes, it was expensive but I have been completely delighted with it. It's small, convenient (comes with a great carrying case), and is so easy to use. The accompanying software is also great: self-explanatory and simple to use. I highly recommend this player for anyone who wants to take tunes anywhere!

Summary: 1 year on and it's still the best
Review: Bought player just about a year ago. Since then have upgraded to a 256mb SD card. Has been used every day commuting to work. In the gym, biking, running whatever - this player is just the best.

Tiny size and battery life are the key for me. Okay so you have to use the free Real One Player to transfer files - but how hard is that?

Review: I hardly ever write one of these reviews, but this product in particular really got me fired up.

This product is one of a few MP3 players that supports the SD format. I was excited about this since I have several devices that use SD and a few others that use CF. I travel quite a bit, so I carry a small multi-reader to read all my memory formats.

This product requires you to use their proprietary reader. YOU CANNOT USE A STANDARD SD READER!!!! So now I have to carry a separate reader for this SD device. The software is also a bit of a pain. MP3 is a generic format. Why must this software convert the MP3's to a S01 (or whatever) format? I'd like the freedom to choose my media software much like I can choose my MP3 player.

By having to carry a proprietary reader, and use proprietary software (by the way, good luck upgrading to the latest Real Player, you have to apply fixes) this product is utterly useless to me.

Summary: Best tiny player out there
Review: If you like tiny mp3 players then this is probably the best one out there. The set up was easy. I use the Real One player with the Panasonic add-on to transfer files. I don't care about features like FM radios, etc. so this player has all the features I need. I haven't had any problems transferring MP3 and WMA files that I have downloaded or ripped. The sound quality is good and it is definitely loud enough. I love being able to stuff it in my pocket so it is available when I need it. The playing time is a big plus too. I usually get more than 8 hours off the rechargeable battery and about a week of use if I use the carrier with the AAA-battery. With SD card prices slowly dropping, I've been buying 256MB SD cards so I can get hours of songs on a single card.

The only complaint I have is that sometimes the display gets out of sync with what is actually playing.

Summary: don't lose that disc, whatever you do.
Review: Sure, this Audio Player is tiny and compact and will wow anybody that you show it to. Sure, the small storage disc makes it easy to fit many, many songs.

But if you lose that software disc you get when you first buy it, then there's no point in ever having it in the first place.

Even worse, you could still have the disc and you'll never be able to use it ever again. If you lose the case that the disc came in, you would have bought all this in vain.

The serial number for the disc is needed to install in into your computer, but if you lose the case which tells you the serial number.... then you're just in trouble.

I have not been able to locate a new SD Jukebox software anywhere, and since somebody accidentally deleted my SD Jukebox program from my computer, I'm left with no means to rotate my songs.

So, if you decide to buy this portable audio player by Panasonic, don't ever lose that disc. Even if your life depended on it, don't lose that disc.

Summary: Convenience over annoyance.
Review: The main draw of the SD80 is just how small it is--I throw it around my neck everytime I leave the house because it's so non-obtrusive to anything. You might as well have it with you 'cause you never know when you're going to have to wait a couple of minutes for a bus, get bored walking down the street, or whatever. It's there when you want it, and is so simple to use you can operate it even under clothing (living in Seattle, I often wear it under a sweater or coat).

The player's functions are simple, but enough. Random play, playlist play, and repeat... All playback operations are handled with three buttons--skip back, skip forward, and play/stop/pause. The play/stop/pause button is actually very functional, despite combining so many things.

The player doesn't come without some problems, though. First of all, it's not a straight MP3 player. To put files onto the SD card you need to use the Real software. It's not bad software per se, but I would unquestionably prefer being able to simply drag MP3 files from my hard drive folders to the removable USB drive that shows up in Explorer. Also, the included 64MB card is a little stingy ... It's enough to fit a whole CD, but nothing more. At least you can upgrade...

Overall, the convenience of being able to just throw the thing around my neck when I leave the house is what makes the player really really usable. It's always there, never in the way...and the other complaints are minimal.

Summary: FEATURE PACKED, GREAT SOUND,DURABLE and SMALL
Review: This has to be the most enjoyable electronic player I've come across. People can whine about the software all they want, once you get used to it, it's easy, reliable and fast. I've never had trouble copying anything I wanted to hear. Everything about it is convenient. The battery charger is fast, the wrist case also holds a booster battery that almost triples battery life. The sound, and quality of the product is nothing short of great. One day at the gym I forgot to take it off going in the shower. It took a full hit of water and cut out. I shook out the excess water and it started playing immediately. No other music player would ever be that forgiving. Panasonic's got a winner here. GET ONE! You won't be disappointed.

Summary: Small, loud, light... does not work with DRM Files!!!
Review: This is a very nice machine! Small, and very convenient. Loud enough to drown out other noises in the Gym, or on the street.

Make sure you go to the Panasonic web site BEFORE installing the Real Software from the included CD. You must install the USP software, but DO NOT install the Real Software. There is an update on the Panasonic website for the new Real Player, and a patch for WMA files.

Here's where this goes south. I have a decent MP3 collection from ripping my CD's, and downloading from the P2P networks in the past. I've recently started to use Napster and iTunes for downloading these files. Although Real can play both file formats, you are not allowed to copy a file protected by DRM (digital rights management) onto the SV-SD80. This, in my book, is a real downfall.

Napster recently added support for a number of players, but the SV-SD80 is not yet on that list. I've sent a support e-mail to Panasonic to see when this function will be available. I sent a similar e-mail to Real. We'll see what happens.

So, the good: Small size, great sound, multiple file formats, great quality! If all you have is unprotected MP3's, then this is a must have!

The bad: No current support for Napster, iTunes, BuyMusic, etc. Not sure if it works with Rhapsody (Real's music store).

Summary: Nice and Small
Review: This is an awesome product! (So much better than my previous Nike psa play 120). The product comes equipped with a number of ways to transform--everything from the armband, neck strap, and the belt clip. It's all nicely designed. This product fits very easily into any situation. It's worth the money.
