Rating: Summary: Get this for ease of use and style Review: Ease of use is best to describe the player. It has a drag and drop interface so there is no need to use a program to transfer music. There is no copy protection on the player so music can be copied to another computer with ease. The remote on the player controls play/pause, skip to forward, skip backward, volume up and volume down. The player resumes playback at the start of the last song played. As for the controls on the player, it's simple as there is one switch. The off/charge position and the playback.download position. I never worry about batteries as I leave it charging in the USB port and when I flip the switch it shows up as a removable storage device. It comes with an external AAA battery pack the provides 10 hours of music and when attached looks like it was built as one and not an attachment. I don't mind the omission of the lcd screen on the player because it really is liberating to not worry about renaming songs. I use this player for the gym over my ipod as it is so much lighter and I put my top 25-30 songs on it and don't worry about changing artists, albums, etc. The sound from the player is amazing. It doesn't have an equalizer and it still sounds better than my 3rd gen 20gb ipod and my old samsung yp-30sh (the key ring replaced this unit). I really was shocked by the sound quality. In terms of looks it is top notch. Everyone comments on how great it looks when they see it. Having said that I bought the KEY005 and not the KEY006 because I would never where one around my neck cause I think it looks stupid to do so. It is also rugged as I have dropped it on the treadmill and there were no chips or dents. In the office if I need to take a file home I just delete a track from the player and drag and drop the document. The only minus is there is no ability to scan through songs. I don't mind this anymore as I just turn on the player and forget about it. The only item I replaced was the headphones. Here is a link of the ones I got with a short cord and work perfectly for me: http://www.audiocubes.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_30&products_id=507 . In summary, I have owned this player for 3 weeks and this is the perfect player for the gym, office and short commutes.
Rating: Summary: Simple and easy to use. Review: First of all, this is my first MP3 player. Before I decided to get this player, I did extensive research on MP3 players and other portable audio players. After doing lots and lots of research, my choices came down to ipod, Sony Mini Disc Player, and Philips Key005. I had consider getting Ipod way before even knowing about KEY005. Ipod seems like something that I had to get. All the commercial in TV and people showing them off in the gym etc., made me wanted to get one too. But,.....I heard something about the battery problems that people are having. Many people were complaining that the battery dies less than a year of the purchase of the ipod. And the cost of replacing the battery wasn't cheap either. And I heard that the Ipod scratches easily. And also Ipod skips easily because it has a hard drive. So it would be useless for those of us who likes to run or work out hard in the gym. Don't get me wrong here, I love products from Apple. I own Apple G4 quicksilver. So my next consideration was Sony Mini disc player. I love sony designs also. I think sony makes good electronics. I have a sony digital camera and they are awesome. But I heard something about "Atrac". Atrac is something sony developed for their Mini Disc Player. I read somewhere that you have to convert your MP3 files into Atrac file before you export them to your mini disc. And I also heard something about that you can only download a song three times...has to do with digital right. So if you have downloaded your mp3-atrac file three times to your mini disc player, you will not able to download them ever again. I am not sure about this, so if I am wrong, somebody correct me please. Finally, I came across to this little Mp3 player from Philips. It was small enough for me to carry around and use it while working out. And also this little gadget can be used as removable hardrive. You can download any digital files to the player and upload them to any computer with USB port withouht any software. But I heard something about Window 98 user need to download a driver before connecting the device. (Oh and for the Mac users, this works perfectly with mac. If it doesn't check and see if your USB driver is updated to 1.5.1 or higher. Alos you should always trash the icon of the player to the trash can before disconnecting the device...) Anyway, when it finally arrive to my house, I was amazed at the weight of this player. IT was so light, I couldn't even feel it in my hand. But this thing is built for durability. It doesn't look cheap either. I'm currently using this player while I run and pump up in the gym and it had never skipped. And the sound quality is awesome. I was amazed at the sound quality. It's clear and crisp. And the headphone is nice too. The internal battery of this player last only two hours if you are playing MP3 files and it last four hours if you are playing WMA files. But the player comes with battery pack witch uses AAA battery that will looks like part of the player when you attach it. It's doesn't make the player bigger either. Only con or fuss I have about this player is that you have to hold on to play button little longer than 2 seconds to turn it on and hold on to it until the song plays...and also you have to hold on to it little longer than two seconds to turn if off. And I still had not figure out what order the player plays the song..I think it has to do with order that you have downloaded them. Anyway, I am one of the happy customer of Philips Key 005.
Rating: Summary: very cool and handy... Review: i looked all over for this thing. NOONE even close to me had it. Ordered it from the seller on amazon from california. in my opinion, this is the coolest overall packaging of any flash-type player out there. the added bonus of being able to transfer files from home/work is very cool as well.when i first got it, i plugged it in (computer is running xp) and nothing happened. I tried all 3 usb ports. they all work fine with my digital camera and my wife's mp3 player, so i called philips' customer service. they were very nice and asked me to send it in and they would replace it. a week and half later i got the replacement and plugged it in-nothing. i went over to a buddy's house and tried it there (slower computer/older model/etc.) and it worked fine. i went home confused and decided to try it one more time and it worked!!! i don't have a clue what happened but it's worked fine since. (by the way, i spoke with philips customer service 3 times and every time they were very pleasant and helpful.) Pros: 1. nice sound 2. awesome design 3. can use file storage/transfer device 4. ultra simple 5. no cord, plugs right in! great for charging also Cons: 1. a bit heavy in your pocket when your running (no clip so it just has to sit in your pocket) 2. ear buds could be better, but are easily replaced 3. songs don't load onto it quite as fast a some other small players (samsung yepp yp-35) these cons weren't big deals to me. an ultra cool looking player that is great for active people who normally have to worry about skipping. Head turner. One last thing-when i plug it into my car stereo via an alt. input cord into a mini jack, it still produces awesome sound. much better than a couple of others i have tried this with.
Rating: Summary: Nightmare Review: I purchased this item after reading both the good and the bad reviews. I was prepared for about anything. I was not. For those of you who the item worked properly and with ease I envy you. After reading the almost non-existent directions on how to install and operate the item, I followed them exactly. This item is not for you if you are not already familiar with some kind of music software. Music Match was a very difficult and frustrating program for me to figure out. Again, the almost non-existent directions for this software were useless. After the first day of unsuccessfully attempting to get this to work, I tried again the next day repeatedly to no avail. It would not recognize the device. I finally decided to call Philips customer service. Another bad mistake. I was told that apparently my device was "corrupted" and that I had to download an updated driver to make it work. Imagine my surprise when even downloading the driver didn't work. At long last, for whatever reason out of the blue I was able to transfer mp3 files to the device and I was elated. When I went to listen to the music I downloaded there was dead silence. Nothing. I had no idea what to do or what was happening. Again, back to Philips customer service. In total I spoke to 4 different people, apparently located in Bangladesh who eventually told me I needed to speak to "Darren" in tech support and that he would contact me. That never happened. Therefore, I call again (oh, did I mention getting disconnected TWICE after being on hold for over 10-15 minutes?) and I ask if I could speak to anyone else in tech support that could help me. I was told No, Darren was the only one to talk to. I said, "there is no one else who works tech support that can help me?" and was told NO. Apparently, this Darren is the only person in Bangladesh who can assist the thousands of Philips customers with tech problems. Overall, this product sucked for me. The experience with Philips sucked even more. I know I will never purchase a Philips product in the future. I resigned to return the item and promptly went out and bought an RCA Lyra 1021 and within minutes of unpacking, it had it working and was listening to my music on it. Coincidence? I think not.
Rating: Summary: Awsome Review: Its an awsome Mp3 player, its really small and light- fits in your pocket easily.... The only down side is it takes a while to load songs onto it, but thats only a small part. Once the songs are on its great...
