Summary: Good Substitute For IPOD
Review: At first, I wanted to buy an IPOD and I was almost willing to even buy an IBOOK to get one. Realizing that this would be a mistake, I decided to wait to see if Apple would come out with an IPOD that would feed both Windows' users along with its Apple children. But, to my dismay, Apple's second IPOD was an even better, higher-storage capacity IPOD -- still spoon-feeding it's children.

So the hunt for an IPOD substitute began, and next thing I know, there I was in Circuit City looking at Classic's 10 gig MP3 player. I was a bit skeptic at first, but judging for the price (about $280) I figure it would be a decent buy compared to Apple's new IPOD which goes for $500. I went home, unpacked it, and loaded the software. Now, of course it wouldn't download at firewire speeds, but nevertheless it still downloaded my MP3s pretty quickly (about 32x).

Now the real test would begin. Would it be easy to use, and would the sound be as clear as I'd like it to be? To my surprise, the sound was not only clear, but it was also loud. The menu was also easy to navigate.

The only negatives to this pruduct is its cheap plastic casing and it's small screen size (things I can live with), but if you just want something that can hold a lot of MP3s and is not too big for your pocket or waist side while hitting up the gym, or going on a road trip, then this is a great buy. And in for $200+ less than Apple's new 10 gig IPOD it's a satisfactory substitute.

This MP3 player is about the size of a walkman and comes with a leather case w/ a belt clip. It also allows you you to setup folders and subfolders which are ideal for playlists. ANd if that doesn't catch your attention, how about a graphic equalizer and extra accessories to connect this gadget to your home stereo? Overall, I give this player 4 stars -- 3 for satisfactory and the the forth for good effort in providing Windows' users with a well-priced, decently sized, IPOD substitute (with a case and clip which even Apple neglects to give its children).

Nevertheless, this should last me a good year or two until Apple finally decides to increase its market base by providing Windows' users with an IPOD, and that's only if Mr. Gates doesn't decide to jump the gun and beat Mr. Jobs to the punch again (which I must say, at this point I'm praying for).

Summary: CHD1000
Review: Great sound quality,Huge memory.
One point to note is not advertised is that you can
record directly from a CD without using a computer.
Another important point that it is multicodec which means it will play the new compression formats other than MP-3
The new compression formats create files much smaller than mp3's which means you can store more songs.

Summary: Not bad for the money
Review: Hey people, First I want to send out an apology to Jesse at Classic. Here is my story and I hope it helps someone. After laying down 300 bones for the player, I got home and began playing with it. I loaded up some MP3's and did not have much trouble. Yes, the interface could be much better, yes it sometimes refuses to download songs due to copyright stuff (I now use a file charing program to get my music), Yes it makes no since that they made this unit out of plastic, But, all in all it was pretty bitchin to load up 50 CD's on the [thing] and jam. Then my USB cable broke and after 4 hours of driving from store to store I realize that they used a propriatry connection to the unit so you have to conntact them directly. After spending more time I finnaly tracked down website and then finnaly found there tech support page. Long story short I wrote a pretty pointed email to tech support/Jesse and he got back to me stating he would send me a new cable ASAP. This made me very happy but unfortunantly a week later i still had heard nothing back from jesse so I wrote another email, this one very nice. Still nothing so one more, still a nice one. Nothing so now pissed again i wrote an email telling Jesse and the company that there customer service stinks, and blah blah blah, now he wrote back and we got into a little pissing contest but in the end the cable arrived and I love the unit. No problems so far. I only recomend that if you are not the technical type I would stay away as it is not the most user friendly thing I have seen and lack of available support will be frustrating. By the way, if yo take the back off you will find a little circuit board and an IBM 10 gig HD from there laptops. How simple.!

Summary: Took Some time -But finally works great-Holds a ton of Music
Review: I am happy I finally got this to work! A lot of trouble at first setting up. Instruction booklet is very weak in setup and operation! Worst, the company (as the other reviews stated) was extremely hard to track down for Tech Support. Company is not listed clearly in book who makes the machine. On last page of manual, you see an 888 number for a "Combined Luck Industries"!??? You call that number and get one of those computer assisted menus that takes you down many paths! One option stated, "For Support for MP3 player, please call 1-866-333-3384". That number gives you another minor maze of choices, but I finally tracked down their one and only tech support man, Javier. With his help, I was able to work out the glitches! (One of my problems was I already used Music Match Jukebox and had version 7.0. The player shipped with 6.1. Music Match stated they do not support the device) But with Classic tech supports (Javier) help, I uninstalled my newer version of Music Match off my computer, did a disk cleanup, defrag and reinstalled the Music Match version 6.1 off the install CD in the box. (I then went to Music Match website and upgraded back to version 7.0) The Classic CHD1000 Music Machine seamlessly integrated with the Music Match Jukebox software wonderfully.

It now works great! I am very happy with the play back quality. Holds so darn much music, it is incredible. The equalizer is very good. Headphones are also decent quality. Menus took a little getting use to, but once I figured it out it was very easy to use. I have downloaded over a thousand songs and have only filled up almost half the memory in the player!

I would recommend this player but be ready to get someone who knows a little bit about computers should you have the same problems. I only gave this 3 of 5 stars for the 2 weeks worth of pain it took me to get it going. Otherwise the player ranks a solid 4 or 5 stars in playability!

Summary: Seems great at first...
Review: I bought the Classic MP3 player because of its capacity -- others only held about an hours worth of music. Had difficuly getting the software going -- user manual doesn't help at all. Technial support is a mystery. Finally figured that out -- thought all was great. Navigation is easy, the unit is about the size of a walkman, sound quality is great, etc. Recently I've been having problem with unit freezing up. Sometimes will play 4-5 songs, sometimes only 1. Only way I can fix is to pry the battery unit off (if let run down, gets very hot). I'd strongly caution anyone else against buying this product. Too many headaches for too much money!

Summary: Lots of features at a great price
Review: I bought this for my daughter at college. She's not real computer literate, yet she was able to install it on her computer and get all her music loaded onto the Classic. (She still has 75% of her drive left available. The fact that you don't have to buy batteries is another big plus. I bought hers at Circuit City and it was under [$$$]after the rebate. We haven't had any problems with it thus far. So far so good.

Summary: Good, but some problems
Review: I got this MP3 player as a gift from my parents last year, and thought it was the greatest thing ever. It had a ton of memory, and while it wasn't my old Rio, I knew I would enjoy having hours of music. Unfortunately, the problems started happening that day.

I opened up the box only to find that they did not bother to include the software. My dad went back to Circut City to see if they had another one, but they didn't. Luckily, one of dad's co workers had the same player and was kind enough to lend it to me to use.

Life was fine, but one day I get home from school, and try to reformat my hard drive, because the media error kept recurring. We called 'customer service' and got the runaround for about a month. They finally told us that they would send us another one. That was ordered in November, and they didn't send it untill the middle of January. A few DAYS later, the line out thing falls into the player. We finnaly get that back in place, and lo and behold, I can hear through BOTH headphones again! A week after that, as of a few days ago, the sound has stopped working in my right headphone again. I need to use medical tape to keep it in place. While it is easy to use, and the memory is great, avoid unless you like having a nusance.
