Summary: Excellent but you'll need to add some sound amplification
Review: I have the 20GB. I downloaded from emusic tons of stuff for very cheap, plus used audiograbber to mp3 my CD's. It takes a little time to figure things out, but it all worked fine. After putting in about 3,000 songs into the JB, I still have about 40% left to pile up more. The sound with the headphones that come with it is very thin. I bought a small headphone amp, weighs little, but makes the entire thing bulkier, at headphone.com. Now the sound is excellent too. Without the amp, I wouldnt go for this unit as is. With the amp, it's terrific. It may take a little fiddling with it, but it's a great product. Also, I went from 98 to XP, and there was no problem at all.

Summary: Once I get it installed...
Review: Who knows what I'll think of it. But I can't install it at all now, because I have WinXP and because I am trying to install it on a laptop that has no floppy. It won't, for some reason, let me install the drivers off my ZIO - perhaps because I have only one USB port on the laptop and it won't "see" both the ZIO and te Archos at the same time. I'm not completely sure, but due to the driver problem, and the fact that XP won't install the drivers that came on the CDRom because they're not "signed", I have a nice, expensive, plastic paperweight right now, when I want to be listening to music.
Piffle.

Summary: iPod HERE I COME
Review: This product is underwhelming at best. At this price, one should expect a certain level of sophistication and quality control which is blantantly lacking here. Among the many disappointments I encountered were:

1. The software has poor documentation, no autorun functionality, and once installed offers only frustration. The installation manual says the software is compatible with both Win 98 and 2000 and I tried to install on both platforms. On neither platform did the OS recognize the device, even after repeated manual driver installation attempts. Further, I could not find any step-by-step, "Here's how to load CD tracks onto your Jukebox" anywhere. Of course since the PC couldn't recognize the device anyway, the point was moot.

2. The device itself seems poorly constructed, with a fit and finish in the Yugo style. Access to the batteries requires inserting a screwdriver and twisting to pop off the side covers, a manuever that will definitely damage the plastic without significant caution. I started charging the batteries at 7 pm and am still charging at 10 am the next day. The manual indicates an initial charge time of 12 hours is required. Even after 15 hours, the device will not power up.

Maybe I just have a lemon, but at this price at least I should get lemonade. This thing is going back in short order. I'll wait for the Win version of the iPod I guess.

Summary: Archos Technical Support
Review: My review is not directed solely at this product, but at the Archos technical support. That support is virtually non-existent. I have tried numerous times over the last month via both email and phone to reach their support team, but have had no success. I have sent 4 separate emails, and called twice. I have received no reply to my email (not even the friendly "auto-reply" that at least reminds you that their email server works), and spent a few of my own long distance dollars on interminable hold since they do not have a toll free number. I even called the main number in Irvine and got the sympathetic receptionist to try to connect me to the tech support staff. Despite her willingness to help, she wasn't able to pull that off. After a little coaxing, she did give me the direct email addresses of two of what she thought were the more responsive members of the technical support staff. That didn't help either. Still no reply. All this is necessary since (depending on which Archos product you buy) you may or may not have any technical support info available to you on their website. In my case, there was none.

If you feel that an Archos product is a "must have", keep the receipt. Your only recourse may be to return it if you have ANY problem with it after purchase. I doubt that you will get anywhere with their technical support program. Good luck.

Summary: I'm gonna marry my Archos 20 GB Juke
Review: With apologies to Andy Warhol (oh, and apologies to my wife as well..), I am in love with the product. I've been collecting mp3's over a LAN at work since last July or so, and had over 500 of my favorite tunes on a bearshare drive. I got the word I was going to be laid-off early this year, and began to panic! I wasn't particularly worried about being out of work, homeless and destitute - I was concerned about losing the 500 tunes..

My wife and I shopped around and discovered the 20 GB Archos product at a 'Best Buys', and I whined until she bought it for me as a Christmas present.

I now have 700+ tunes, and a couple GB of my 'Intellectual Properties' on the Jukebox. The ability to easily map the Juke as a regular harddrive made it simple to drag and drop my tunes, company secrets, and my work onto the Juke (I'm just kidding about the company secrets - there are no secrets where I work ;)

I adore the Juke - It's been with me nonstop since Christmas. The batteries recharge, and are good for 8 hours of listening.

I figure I will easily get to 5,000 tunes if there are that many I want.. enjoy!

Summary: good, but not easy
Review: got the jukebox 20g, the directions for setting up are not clear, nor is it compatible with windows xp. but, the bottom line is once you work through the bugs, it's fairly simple to drop and drag mp3 files to it. you should record them at 160kpbs to get good sound. 96kpbs is very distorted on music with high ranges.

Summary: Archos JukeBox Studio 20 - poor product, poor service
Review: I give it one star only because there is no option for 0 stars. This is the worst of all worlds. A product that even when working is not worth the price. It consumes batteres much faster than the 8hr advertised and the output (volume) is real low - at the highest setting it is difficult to hear while jogging or other activities. My unit quit working after about 1 month. I returned it to Archos under warrantee and went through customer service hell, they replaced it with a Jubebox 6000 (smaller 6GB version) without my permission. All attempts to get corrected have been blocked by poor customer service. There is no 1-800 number to customer service so I'm forced to call long distance numbers only to be put on hold for 20+ minutes and then promised call backs that never happened. I'll never buy from Archos again and would not recommend that anyone else even ocnsider their products. There are plenty of reliable products and manufacturers out there.

Summary: Enjoy it while it works... cause it's gonna break soon.
Review: If you are considering buying this, notice how this product gets a lot of good reviews and but yet a large number of people absolutely hate it. That's because it's wonderful until you have a problem, which believe me you will. I love the concept, lots of storage and great sound, but I personally have gone through two and have decided that my cat is a better source of support for this product than Archos will ever be. Two different family members have also had theirs break. I'm going to try the Nomad product.

Summary: An Excellent Device, And A suggestion for problems
Review: First The Bad Stuff and Then The Good. I love this thing. Most people coplain that it frezzes after one hour, IT SAYS TO CHARGE IT BEFORE USE, that I did and it has worked fine. The manual was a bit sketchy but seeing as I didn't have any problems, it was unnecesary. Yes it is loud loading but for those who say theycan't find tracks, don't load songs in individually, put them in folders named after the album. Most of the complaints seem to be refering to the 6GB player/recorder, so hint, don't buy that model because there are others. I have had no problems with thi unit and it has worked beautifully since the day I bought it. The control screen is a bit tricky sometimes but other than tat it is flawless. I would definitely reccomend this item.

Summary: You CAN have it all!
Review: I have waited for someone to finally have an MP3 that allows you to take more than a couple hours worth of music with you. Benefits: Easy to sync with the computer (will also backup regular files if you want). Works with MusicMatch (Great for automatically finding names, tracks, and creating folders). Line out for hooking up to small speakers. Looks like I will end up with around 500 CD's on this thing. Small and easy to carry (the picture makes it look pretty big but it fits in your hand) Down Side(?): Only two, One, the headsets [stinks]... Get some good old fashioned ear buds. Two, it takes awhile to figure out how to move through the thing (use playlists!). Bottom Line: It is great. Forget about deciding what music to bring with you - bring it all!
