Summary: Great customer service
Review: I bought this product for the price and the FM transmission. The FM transmission does not work well in the car, but works great in the house. In the car, it is difficult to position the player perfectly in order to get good reception. But I just plug it into my cassette with an adapter (I had one hanging around the house from my portable CD player days) and it plays fine. I love it for in the house. I can listen to my shows (talk shows and TV shows I download off the internet) and music wherever I am. I just carry my small portable FM player and my Neuros from room to room as I am cleaning. And I love not having to touch a CD anymore! I had problems with the player in the first two days, but customer service was GREAT! I left a message and someone called me back within an hour. He was friendly and helpful and fixed my problem in three minutes. I like this product.

Summary: Excellent MP3 player for a great price
Review: I have the USB 1.1 version of this MP3 player, and I've had it for about 8 months. I did extensive research before I finally settled on this player and I do not have a single regret.

Pros:
- Great sound (recommend using different headphones than the ones included)
- Easy to use and install (I have XP, and it had no problems recognizing the device)
- Can be used as a back up hard drive
- Outstanding battery life (I typically get 8-10 hours of continual play...and it will retain power for several days when turned off)
- Can play and sort songs in many different ways (i.e. by Album, Artist, Genre, etc.)
- The FM transmitter that is built in is great for the car
- Looks cool with the orange lights
- Lots of storage space for the price

Cons:
- Large and heavy (compared to other players like the iPod)
- No resume after powered off
- Slow transfer rate with USB 1.1 (but now they have USB 2.0!)

If you're looking for an affordable and reliable alternative to the iPod, I suggest this. I have nothing against the iPod, but since I couldn't afford one this is what I went with.

Summary: cool features - poor execution
Review: I received the 20GB/256MB bundle as a Christmas present. I had to return the first one due to hardware problems with the 20GB hard drive ... it generated hard errors and would not reformat. The replacement unit is even worse (though they did cross ship and attempt to replace quickly).

Replacement will not power on ... I guess I should say it will not power on consistently ... sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.

The included database management software is non-intuitive and a bit inflexible. In my brief experiments with it, it did not seem to have as many features/functions as it should. The good news is that there are open source alternatives (http://sourceforge.net/projects/neurosdbm/).

I asked for this unit because it would play ogg (which pretty much kicks mp3 in quality) and the open source support ... meaning I could use it/manage it from a Linux PC. I still love the features and the ideas behind the unit, however, their delivery of the actual product is very poor.

Unit is poorly constructed and cheaply made. On my new unit labels were peeling off buttons, changing the backpacks was much more difficult and cumbersome than necessary, the unit did not feel 'solid' in any way. It is also very bulky, which I could live with, but many people would not like. When I did have problems, error messages were cryptic at best.

Initially, support was very repsonsive, however, they appear to be ignoring my requests for a second replacement unit. If they do grant me a replacement, it will be my third unit since Christmas ... averaging one per week.

Battery life is advertised as "up to" 10 hours. On both units I've received it has never lasted more than 2.5 hours when fully charged.

Although I believe they are trying to put out a good product, they have not figured out the magic pieces to turn out a quality piece of hardware. They should save their money on the bundled music management software and advise users of the multiple open source alternatives. They need better quality control in their manufacturing process. They need to improve the design ( get rid of cheesy/flimsy buttons, glue on labels, flimsy & difficult backpack switch lock ) and improve the overall durability and 'solidity' of the hardware.

Bottom line ... love the ideas, hate the delivered product, and worried about the current support repsonse.

Summary: Blew up on me.
Review: I'm a music junkie, have an iPod, but will try anything promising. I was very excited about using this to broadcast MP3's to a stereo (have bought similar low cost products that were really bad).

Well, took it home, set it up, got some power, charged it....and it never turned on again.

When I brought it back to the store, the clerck that saw me approaching him with the package gave me a look that read "yep, another one of these back", and when I talked to him, confirmed that they were coming back frequently.

When I read the other reviews on this site though, it makes me want to roll the dice and try it again...

Do at your own risk.

Summary: The one to buy if you really love music
Review: I've owned my Neuros 20GB for about four months. I had the opportunity to audition a number of portable music players, including the iPod and the Archos Jukebox, among others. The Neuros won't win any beauty contests and its USB 1.1 interface is not the fastest in the world. But it has some very interesting features, including "MyFi", an FM transmitter that I use every day to listen to the Neuros over my truck's radio. I've used HiSi a few times with moderate success. It allows the user to record a snippet of music from the radio, then identifies the song when the player is synchronized with a PC and the Neuros synchronization software. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

The Neuros supports Ogg Vorbis files with the version 1.45 (beta) firmware. Initially I was concerned that the firmware was beta, since I didn't really want to be a guinea pig on my dime, but it's quite stable...I have had no problems at all. The Windows-based synchronization software seems a little clunky to me, but an excellent third party application, NeurosDBM works much better (and it's free). The Neuros (when used with NeurosDBM) is platform independent - I've synchronized it on PCs running Windows and Linux, a Sun Blade 1000 and an Apple iMac.

But what really sets this device apart from anything that I auditioned is the quality of the sound and its ability to drive low impedance, high quality headphones. I listen with a pair of Grado SR-125 headphones. They have the (occaisionally irritating) quality of bringing out the worst of a marginally performing piece of equipment, besides being a very challenging electrical load to drive. The Neuros sounds extraordinary through them. No, it's not like my home system, but it's leaps and bounds ahead of the iPod (and anything else I've listened to) in pure audio quality. Even with high impedance Sennheisers, the Neuros beats anything else that I've heard. To me, the music is what matters. So, while the slow USB interface can be a bit of a pain, the wait is well worth it. My recommendation? Buy the Neuros 20GB, use the money you saved over an iPod to buy a GOOD pair of 'phones, grab the latest firmware and NeurosDBM software. You won't look back!

Summary: Brilliant!
Review: So, you mean I can listen to ALL of my music whenever & wherever I want? I can broadcast them at any FM radio even in my car amidst the brodcast noise in LA? I can make voice and live music recordings? Yes, yes, yes! I'm still amazed how well the Neuros works. I haven't used my car's CD changer since!

Neuros rocks, so does the price tag, especially if you've considered the ipod. This thing's all-in-one, no additional add-on or plug-in features for recording or broadcasting. Customer service is great as well as the on-line forums at neurosaudio.com. It hasn't left my side since it arrived! This is the MP3/Digital player to get!

Summary: Crashed and then burned, then crashed again.
Review: The concept of this device is great. It was first foray into MP3 players. I found that it played well over the FM frequency, the earphones made the music seem like it was a live performance, ease of use was great with the synchronizing software and their customer service was beyond excellent, they were superb -- in their human relation skills, but I'm not sure about their technical skills. I'm giving it two stars because it seemed like the Neuros team really wanted to help me but the end result was that I was able to use it for only a few weeks of the five months I've owned it. I had to send it back to Neuros twice and it wasn't repaired either time. I am, just today, sending it back to them with instructions that they are to send me a completely different device or don't send me anything at all. It's already cost me about $75 in shipping costs to have them attempt to repair it. By the time it's over, buying an iPod might look like a real bargain.
