Rating: Summary: If you can afford an Ipod - buy one if not... Review: Yes this product has its limitations - yet if you can learn to live with them the Riot can provide 20Gb of MP3/WMA at a bargain price I paid £125. The shortcomings are; Slow USB 1 interface (but then again how often would you download all your songs to this kind of unit?) SIze - yes the Riot is kind of chunky but I really like the design and it lends itself nicely to car fitting. Battery Life - upto 10 hours (In reality is about the same as an Ipod) Files cannot be copied back to the PC/Mac (well not easily anyway - It is also quite difficult to get the iPod to do this BTW) No AAC playback, not really an issue with me, as although I am a Mac User I use MP3/WMA - as the iTunes store is not available Europe as yet. Anyway I guess you pays your money you makes your choice, I dont regret mine!
Rating: Summary: Best MP3 player I have ever seen!! Review: This is an awsome MP3 player, works like a charm. I have never had any problems with it. The features on this thing are great, like the playlists, random play, timer, and even a radio with 5 pre-set stations!! Look no further, this gives you the most bang for your buck!
Rating: Summary: Highly Disappointing Review: I bought this MP3 player last spring hoping I would be able to put all my songs on it and carry it with me everywhere. It's bulk kept me from taking it anywhere, and after about 6 months of having trouble with turning it on and it's short battery life, it broke and I can't get it to turn on, even when it is plugged in.
Rating: Summary: The Truth about the Rio Riot.... Review: This past August I purchased the Rio Riot with much deliberation. I has seen the previous reviews, most of which were negative, yet I still bought the Riot. I have found the Riot's performance as O.K. but nothing special. Here are the pros and cons... PROS- Very large storage-20GBs, and I currently have 350 songs and 17 GBs left) I love the Inferface- There is a nice navigation system, Rio DJ creates mixes quick, and you can have numerous Playlists Somewhat Durable- I dropped it from a height yesterday and there was nothing wrong. FM Radio- Very nice touch to the Riot, and reception isnt bad either CONS- Bulky- Sad to say that it is entirely true, the Rio Roit is bulky. It is the exact size of a X-Box controller. Battery Life is Short- This is also true, battery life is very limited. It only lasts about 3 hours and then it starts flashing low. I did try what it said on that atrocious website (see below), but it still didnt work. Minor Flaws: Sometimes it says the battery life is very low when it is full Sometimes it plays the wrong song. (I.E.- It says "You Oughta Know," by Alanis Morissette but when i click it it plays "By the Way," by the Red Hot Chili Peppers) Sometimes freezes- Sometimes it freezes when you click "Play All," and you have to press the restart button (which does not erase all songs as i had though) ---Now I am not sure if I have a defective player or not Some Other thoughts... ---- Transfering music was not as slow as I had thought, I transfered 200 songs in like 1 1/2 hours. ( Im sure it could be faster with Firewire though) ---- The software that comes with the player is terrible, but you dont have to stick with it! I used Windows Media Player and it works fine. ---- THE RIO WEBSITE IT ATROCIOUS- it is extremely hard to navigate when looking for a player's area that is not a new model. Some Final Thoughts: -I would rather get an IPOD than this... they are much better, yet the are expensive. - Since the Rio Riot is currently unavialible at Amazon.com, buy it on Ebay. That is were I got mine, and i had a great transaction. I only payed 160$ for a completely new player!!!
Rating: Summary: Decent, but not worth the money Review: I was so excited about this thing when it came in the mail. Then I noticed the first thing to drop it down a star, the battery is internal and not replacable. Then I took the think to Iraq with me. This was an expirience all in itself, but then the battery shorted and fried the HD. So there went $200 down the drain, but it was nice while it lasted.
Rating: Summary: ABSOLUTE GARBAGE PRODUCT!!! Review: When this player worked, it was great. But, all good things come to an end. I can't believe ANYONE could write a positive review about this product. I see the battery life issue has come up with a lot of Rio products and I have had the same problem...Since my player, the Rio Riot, was out of warranty by a couple of months, I had to send back the player, <for a fee of $175> as I could not get the battery going <can't use regular batteries mind you>, for a "refurbished" model. They sent me two of them, both had the "battery is out, connect to a charger" message within three weeks. No response for money back request from Rio/Digital Networks. I am going to have to file a suit against them and am considering obtaining class action status, since it is apparent they don't care whatsoever. Ah, but the new owners of Sonicblue will, as i'm sure they will have purchased their liabilities. Any one wishing to contact me, please do so at chuckiewojo@aol.com, as it didn't say to refrain from using email addresses on the review guidelines. If so, Amazon please take out my address info!!! PLEASE avoid purchasing this product!!!
Rating: Summary: Riots are plagued with defective battery problems Review: I have owned my Riot for only 3 months. The battery will no longer hold a charge. The player is now useless. SonciBlue only offers an exchange. All of the time spent uploading music files was wasted. I am going to get the exchange, sell it on ebay, and buy an iPod.
Rating: Summary: Get What Ya Pay For Review: I stumbled into this device after I purchased and RCA LYRA Jukebox.. and if you happen to be one of the people who thinks this player stinks.. dang.. try the Lyra. You'll love the RioRiot after that. The biggest complaint I have had with the unit is the software. You can download the update for Windows Media Player that will let you use that to load software. True. But there is another choice. I use Sveta Portable Audio. It actually replaces the software that comes with a LOT of different players, including the RioVolt. It's shareware and you can get it at http://www.dbpoweramp.com/ Is it perfect? Nope. Not perfect. But it's better than anything else I've used and I like it. Hope some of you find this helpful.......
Rating: Summary: horrible! Review: If I could give this zero stars I would. The problems other people list are same i've had. I do not recommend this item!!! Luckily the outlet store has offered me an ipod in place of this. Not to mention this is the third time i've owned this. Should have learned the first. Worst mp3 player ever.
Rating: Summary: how dare they sell such a terrible product Review: I have had nothing but trouble with this player. The machine stops on an average of 6 times an hour claiming that the battery is out of power, yet on the machine it indicates that it is fully charged. It is a real pain to download music on to the player and the volume is very poor. Customer service is terrible too. I do not recommend purchasing this player. Personally, I think that it should be taken off the market
