Rating: Summary: Only 90 Days Warranty Review: The player is great like other reviewers said. However, note that it only comes with 90 days warranty. I purchased mine on 1/2/2004 and the hard drive inside the player failed on 4/26/2004. Rio offers to replace the hard drive for $200.
Rating: Summary: SUCKS...HARD DRIVE BREAKS AFTER WARRANTY ENDS. Review: THIS IS THE BIGGEST WASTE OF MONEY ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH. I got this for Christmas and basically nothing else because it was fairly expensive even if it is cheaper than the IPOD...well now I don't have anything because this POS decides to break after just about 3 months...yep kids just in time for your warranty to end. I haven't even tried tech support but why should I bother my warranty is up and I've heard enough from about 100 people with the same situation- they don't do anything to take responsibility for this even though it was they who chose to use such POS hard drives. Before finally dying completely, as in now when I turn it on it doesn't load anything- it would freeze and lock up constantly and the best part about it freezing? You can't turn it off! Nope! You have to WAIT for the battery to die and charge it back so up it can freeze once more. When I got this player it had just come out and was getting rave reviews...unfortunately for the first 3 months the things SEEMS okay...THEN it shows the world what an UTTER peice of junk it is. I will NEVER buy anything from RIO again and I hope you don't either. They deserve to go out of business.
Rating: Summary: BEWARE OF RIO Review: BEFORE YOU BUY ANYTHING FROM RIO, do your research -- I'm an adult who purchased 2 of their MP3 players to listen to while using the treadmill at the gym. Aside from the complaints that come with many electronic gadgets (eats batteries, controls difficult to use, etc.), BEWARE THAT THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS ESPECIALLY UNHELPFUL. By checking online, you'll see that many individuals (myself included) have gone through numerous devices to find that the quality is poor, replacement or repair is grudgingly, if at all. LOOK AT ANOTHER BRAND BEFORE YOU SPEND YOUR MONEY.
Rating: Summary: Worst deal of my life Review: Many reviews already talk about the horrific quality of this device. Long story short: Got it, lasted 4 weeks, sent it back to Rio, six weeks later I got a new one, lasted another 6 weeks. Now Rio is saying that I'm done with the warranty period. If it only had died before they would be able to replace it. The great solution the customer service rep had for me was an "out of warranty" replacement for the bargain price of $200. I'm done doing business with Rio and so should everybody else.
Rating: Summary: Buy at your own risk..... Review: I bought this player for $272 from Compuplus and within a few weeks the hard drive crashed from normal use. I called Rio Support and they suggested a lot of things I had already tried. I sent the product back to Compuplus since it was within the 30-day period and received a replacement within 2 weeks or so(Compuplus rocks!). This time, I was a lot more cautious with my MP3 player. I didn't use it quite as often and always carried it in its cheaply-made pouch. Well, thanks to my cautiosness, I was able to use the player a whole two weeks longer than the first player before it decided to quit. I called Rio Support, and they gave me the usual crap. The customer support representative I talked to could barely speak english, and so my call lasted about 20 minutes. The representative finally said she would create for me an RMA account right after my call and email me the same day. Well, it's been two days now and no email. I seriously regret buying this product. When I paid $272 for the product, I was expecting it to last at least a year or two. I should have listened to all those dissapointed customers before buying, but now it's too late. If you want a player that will last long, then you'd be better off getting and iPod. The only reason I bought the Karma instead of the iPod was the price. I totally do NOT recommend this product to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Thank God for extended warranties - Bad Karma Review: My Karma initially would chirp and make skipping noises like an old record player. Three weeks after purchase the hard drive crashed. The customer service rep hints that they are out of stock on rebuilt models, but that I should send my failed one anyway. Long story short, I get a replacement in about six weeks. So my new, rebuilt model which was obviously used and not cleaned up at all...fails immediately out of the box. Bigger issue, on the shipping box they state that the warranty clock was running the entire time they had my machine. So, here I sit, waiting for the third Karma, hoping that it either works (miraculously) or that my extended warranty company will provide an IPod instead. Customer service, in general, is horrific. Each phone rep and supervisor has told me conflicting stories. Pretty sure this group is outsourced to a company in India that doesn't know what's going on. I actually feel sorry for them. The Karma has serious faults and Rio knows it. Check their website and you will see that they no longer sell it directly (though they sell all their other products online). Thus, beware purchasing from Amazon, Target, eTronics or anybody else. If you do decide to buy it, do yourself a huge favor and buy an extended warranty.
Rating: Summary: Piece of Crap Review: Like several others, I got my Karma for Christmas. The hard drive failed in the first week. I sent it back to the retailer and got a new one two weeks later. Now the jog wheel failed. I'm obviously hesitant about spending anymore time loading music. From what I have read about the 90 day warranty, I figure it is going to get tossed in the trash. A $300 paperwieght. Don't buy it!!!
Rating: Summary: Failed in 3 months Review: My first karma failed within a few days of purchase. I returned it to the placeof purchase, and got a replacement. It worked for 3 1/2 months (just past the warranty) before I got a hard drive failure. It has a lot of neat features, but is in no way worth $100 a month.
Rating: Summary: Support/ Warranty: Fagetaboutit! Review: I loved my RIO Karma while it worked - just a few weeks past its 90-day warranty. That's when the cheap joystick and thumb wheel broke from normal use. I chose the RIO Karma over Apple's iPod, and now regret my decision. RIO's support is horrible. Despite a web page promise that RIO would contact me within 24 hours of my email, I never received a response to several emails. RIO's tech center turned out to be a phone bank in India, where the rep knew enough English to advise me that RIO did not offer a repair service for its product outside the incredibly short 90-day period, but would be willing to send me a refurbished replacement unit for $200. I was already in the hole for $300+ for just over 3 months' use, and I told the rep I had no intention of throwing good money after bad. In comparison, a friend of mine broke his iPod when he dropped it in a puddle, sent it back to Apple within the iPod's 1-year warranty period (without informing Apple why it broke) and received a new iPod from Apple. It's amazing that RIO offers consumers the equivalent of a toaster warranty for such an expensive electronic device. Although I like a number of Karma's feature over the iPod, I'm not willing to risk spending $100 per month for any product from RIO. If you choose to roll the dice on any RIO product, you better buy a reliable third-party, 2-year replacement warranty.
Rating: Summary: Dont bother with Karma Review: Bought one and it was dead in 2 months, got it back a month later, minus one month of warranty. Now the new ones only have a month warranty. Got to talk to India many times, couldn't understand most of it. Get an Ipod. Wish I did.
