Rating: Summary: title for my review Review: i own the iPod (just got it) and the creative Zen (1st generation-had it for a year).main advantages of the iPod: small and lightweight, looks friggin cool, intuitive and very easy to use menu's, can sync outlook contacts, appointments, notes, etc... can be used as a hard drive, iTunes is a good program (for ripping, burning, playing music and organizing the iPod), scroll wheel is amazing. disadvantages: price, doesn't come with non firewire cables (if you don't have a firewire card, you need to purchase another cable ($20) to use the iPod (with USB - either 1.1 or 2.0), "on the go playlists" - you can build a playlist on the iPod while you are out and about, however, you can't save it on the iPod. you can save it with iTunes when you sync, but only if you are using "automatic sync" - which i don't(so no spur of the moment playlists which can be used again for me). note that you can create as many playlists as you want on iTunes and save them to the iPod. overall i am very happy with the iPod. compared with the Zen - Zen is bigger and heavier (while still small overall, compared to the iPod it is significantly larger), Zen is sooooo much cheaper and for more memory, Zen has much better "on the go playlist" functionality (i.e. it lets you create a playlist on the unit and save it, create another one, save it, etc...). Zen has a que of songs that can be added to, changed, etc... on the fly - the iPod does not i would reccomend the Zen as well, as a much cheaper alternative, with superior mp3 playing functionality (que and "on the go playlists"), though you can't sync outlook information, it doesn't have games, is heavier and larger overall and is certainly not nearly as cool looking.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Product Review: If you like music and don't have a Harddrive based "MP3" player. you've gotta try one. It'll change the way you listen to music. Hook one to your home system and never swap CD's again, and have your music collection in your pocket wherever you go. Anyway, I never thought I'd say this about and Apple product, but... I love this thing. There is nothing like having 300+ CD's at your finger tips, anywhere. Some of the complaints I've read have to do with MusicMatch and the iPod. I've never used the iPod with Musicmatch, since I bought it just after (and because of)the release of iTunes for Windows, and it's worked great for me. It's a very simple/easy to use program that does everything I need, and regardless of what others have said, it and the iPod work fine with MP3's. However, the iTunes music store will only provide music in the AAC format and the purchased music will only download to the iPod. ;) You can also burn them to regular CD's. After trying both MP3 and AAC formats, I settled on the AAC @192kbps. 128kbps is fine, but with 20GB, I've got plenty of room. The 20GB iPod is the better buy, since it includes a case, remote, and docking station. None of them are necessary but definitly worth having, plus you get the extra 10GB. An included USB cable would be nice but since most newer computers include firewire, and USB won't recharge the iPod while firewire will, most people will better better served by getting a $...firewire pci card, if their computer doesn't have firewire already. My only semi complaint is the 8 hr battery life, I've yet to drain the battery, but 14-16 hrs would be nice. I've picked up a car adapter just in case, and usually have the AC adapter with me if I feel I'll be running for more than 8 Hrs.
Rating: Summary: Easy to Use and Listen To Review: I have just purchased the iPod 20MB system and absolutely love it. This has revolutionized my listening to music experience like the digital camera did for taking photos. I cannot imagine going back to the stack of CDs. I know that there is a lot of discussions about MP3 players vs the iPod, but for me this was the easiest one to use. I have a Windows machine, but it does have a firewire port so the iPod came with everything I needed. I burnt my 40 or so CD's onto it in a relatively short period of time and now I have all 40 CD's with me at all times (Still have 18GB) of data left. I have it working in my car with the optional XtremeMac - Get Connected Kit for new iPod. It plays great through the tape player. It is also connected to my receiver and speaker system at home (with the RCA cables that came with the XtremeMac kit) and plays great. I just put it into its docking station and press play. What about sound quality? I can't hear any sound quality issues with the AAC compression being used. I am sure serious audiophiles will, but I don't. The packaging on the iPod is amazing, the user interface is simple to use and operate.... Buy one today!!!!
Rating: Summary: Limited Battery life, no features Overpriced Review: With the plethora of less expensive and more feature rich Mp3 players hitting the market daily, why would you want to pay $400 for an ipod, other than to satisfy some lemming instinct? The ipod is made of plastic and looks like a fisher price toy and is as simple as that. It plays and store music, but no fm no recording capabilities and hardly any battery life at all Would give this a zero if possible-$400 is a lot of money to play music in mac format.
Rating: Summary: Poor player, no features, closed system, extremely expensive Review: Apple does it again. They managed to create one of the first good mp3 players, just like they produced one of the first good pcs. Then it all falls apart-they keep prices high, use a proprietary format that the rest of the world does not use and try to lock the users into buying their expensive products (ipods) and services (itunes). For starters there are players by Dell, Gateway and of course Napster that do more than just play music like the ipod and all are far less expensive and all handle mp3 and wma files which the ipod does not which leaves the ipod user no alternative but to use itunes (which isn't bad but charges .99 a tune and does not allow listening to entire tunes before buying-something that Napster does) This ipod does not sound very good either. I tried a friend's and he envies my Samsung Napster player because of the recording capabiities. I can make mp3 files from radio streams, old cassetes and even my own voice. The fm on the napster is not really of use to me but its there if you want it. The ipod's day has past-it was great when it was the only game in town but with the slew of new 20gb players on the market that play wma and mp3 files at $100-150 cheaper, you 'd be nuts to shell out 400 for an ipod that does little more than play music.
Rating: Summary: Apple did an excellent job. Review: This MP3 player is more amazing than I thought it would be. First of all, the packaging is very artistic and well-designed. You would even enjoy it when you first open the box. Second, user interface is very unique and nothing similar to other MP3 players. It takes a while to get used to it, but you will like it. There is one NOTICE for Windows users though. If you plan to use USB instead of FireWire, you should buy an optional USB cable with iPod. It's NOT included. Or, if your Windows machine has FireWire ports, you don't need that. I did not have either one of them, so I went out and bought a FireWire PCI card. Overall, I like it. I know it's costly but worth it.
Rating: Summary: I LOVE IT! Review: I had been thinking about buying a MP3 player for a long time but wanted to have MP3 which stores at least 1,000 songs. Now my dream came true. Some people say 256MB MP3 Player (5CDs) is enough but I am the kind of person who want to listen any songs from CD collections in a second - No need to pick only 50-75 songs to install. I bought 20GB because it comes with Dock, Wire Remote and Case. ($100-$115 value) 10GB does not come with above and I believe 20GB is better deal. I had a hard time to figure how to use "Wheel Pad" because I was trying to press UP and DOWN. But now I got it. It's a WHEEL. If you want to go down to the menu selection, you use your finger for clockwise. When I finally figured out, I was amazed how useful this Ipod. Thanks Apple!!
Rating: Summary: Out of this world - amazing product! Review: I received iPOD as a birthday gift. I was very impressed with the beautiful design of the hardware and user interface. I downloaded iTunes couple of days back. I am extremely impressed with the usability and power of the product. I wish I could get to use other Mac softwares such as iPhoto, iCal, etc. The guys in Apple are genius; they exactly know what a user like me wants. I feel like I was living in a closet with Windows platform. My next purchase will be a Mac. Good job Apple! Keep up the good work. We love you.
Rating: Summary: Small, stylish and large capacity Review: I bought the 15Gb iPod in summer with $385 (which is equivalent to the 20Gb iPod now). Pros: (i)Synchronizing. Songs transfering in the first time might take longer time, but after that synchronizing is amazingly fast (only with iTunes; MusicMatch is pretty slow compared to iTunes). Songs are screened through and only modified songs are synchronized. take bout 2 seconds per song) (ii)Useful Playlist. With iPod and iTunes, u can create a wide range of playlists (songs that u rated 5 stars, songs that u never played before, songs that u've recently played, christmas songs..etc) (iii)Easy navigation. User interface is easy to use. iPod has cascading menus that provide easy navigation. In addition, the touch-sensitive buttons are really 'cool' to use. (iv)Small. Really small and light. and it's really good looking (See others and u will realize :) (v)Songs organization. iTunes organizes my songs pretty well according to artist and albums. I only have to name then once in iTunes and iTunes does it all (creating folders for artists/albums, arranging the songs, deleting them when I delete them in iTunes) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cons: (i) Battery life. One of the reason i chose iPod was it can last for 8 hrs (which is the longest in last summer). However, recently more mp3 players could provide up to 16hrs and some PDA can play mp3 up to 35 hrs too. (ii) File transfering (using iPod as hard drive) is not convenient for Windows user. Calendar, text notes function can only be used with Macs. (iii) No recording & radio. Most mp3 players today has built in mic for recording and Radio functionality. (iv) The ear buds provided has pretty good quality but not excellent. Hardly heard low range notes when commute. Would prefer headphones. (v) Expensive. with the same price u can get another mp3 player for 40Gb or more. (vi) Couldnt play WMA files (but, do u care?) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I would still give 5 stars because this is what I want for a mp3 player : Small, Stylish, user friendly and large capacity. Personally, I don't think I would need recording, radio, WMA.. functionality for my mp3 player. Several other mp3 players like Creative Zen NX is pretty good too (from what I heard), with larger capacity and better price, but if u have the money, go for iPod, u'll definitely LOVE it! P/S: (i) Don't buy the 10Gb iPod, as it comes without remote, leather case, docking, and docking cover. These things costs about $100 so go for either 20Gb or 40Gb if possible (ii) Apple.com has FREE laser engraving recently, which costs $19 previously and it's not available at amazon.com
Rating: Summary: Very sleek, even better in some respects than the 40 GIG! Review: I noticed that the 20 and 10 GIG models are more slim and a bit lighter in weight than the larger 40 GIG model. The size and weight difference is not that much, but it was enough to notice when holding them side by side. The 20 GIG unit is so light, thin and compact that you will hardly even notice it in your pocket. Highly recommended, unless you really need 40 GIGs of space then I would spring for the 40.
