Rating: Summary: Windows USB users alert Review: You need an optional cable to connect to USB. Even though Apple says it is compatible with Firewire and USB, they do not mention that to be compatible you need to buy another cable. Why don't they learn; reminds me of not including unusual batteries in toys and the annoyance of just looking but not playing.
Rating: Summary: awesome!!!!!!!! Review: i got my ipod today for christmas from my mommy and daddy. i'd been reading about them for months, and at first i was a little scared because i don't have an apple computer, but i convinced myself it would work, and then put it on my christmas list. and i'm dang glad i did. the ipod is amazing, especially with itunes. while i waited for christmas day i "wripped" cd's to itunes, and when i plugged in my ipod and installed the software, it took FIVE MINUTES to upload the 163 songs from itunes to the ipod. i'm listening to it now. it's so ... wonderful. the sound is great too. plus the ipod is beautiful. i suggest getting the "iskins" cover, it's great too. anyways, the ipod is worth EVERY CENT!
Rating: Summary: wowee Review: oh my...i had to buy this for myself for Christmas...besides nobody i know would spend 400 dollars on me, lol....kudos to apple, i'm pretty much a penny pincher, so its a big deal for me to spend that kind of money, especially just for a gussied up walkman....anywho, you wont regret it....it has the power, style, and utility that you desire. period.
Rating: Summary: Haters Back Off Review: My gosh! There seem to be a lot of apple haters out there. The iPod works fine with my Dell Dimension PC. I use Windows XP, iTunes 4.2 and FireWire, and everything works fine, and my comuter is over 4 years old! I dont really care about the lack of an FM radio, because who needs radio when you have 5000 songs that you actally like at your fingertips? As for voice recording, on apple.com, you can buy an adapter for your iPod. And all you people complianing about the battery, you're right, it does burn out after 2 years or so, but you can buy brand new iPod batteries at ipodbattery.com, for both the older models, and the new ones. They even tell you how to install them. So far, I have yet to experience a crash, freeze, or any malfunction. My only complaint is the battery life, which usually lasts about 4-6 hours if I use the backlight or switch songs, but you can buy an add-on for battery life too, so that kind of solves that problem. I realize that these players are pricy, but you get what you pay for. An incredible mp3 player from a respected company, with plenty of add-ons to enhance your iPod experiance, and you will definatly get the "Wow"s from people who see you. It also has games and other cool stuff. Over all, this is a worthy investment, and is well worth the money, but I highly recomend that PC users download iTunes from apple.com, and to buy a good FireWire card. If you are able to justify spending [this much] on an mp3 player, go for the 20 gig Apple iPod.
Rating: Summary: Extremely overpriced, but is the best MP3 on the market Review: The Apple IPod is a great innovation in modern technology. You will wonder how you could ever get that advanced to get 20 GB of memory in an item that is slightly bigger than a deck of cards. This thing is a music lover's dream. However, that dream comes at a price. At almost $400, this could be considered a luxury item. Added to that, if you're a PC user, you will have to buy a lot of additional cables. One, you'll have to buy a Dock connector to USB cable. Then, you'll have to buy an FM transmitter for your car to play your IPod. And then lastly, if you're playing it a lot in the car, you'll need another case because the one provided doesn't have outlines in it, so you'll have to pull it out of the case anytime you want to change a song. Which is just as distracting as using a cell phone while driving. All those extras are going to cost you an extra $100. As for the IPod itself the navigation is very easy. You'll be able to handle it in no time at all. However, I find it very hard to believe that I will ever get anywhere near the 10,000 song limit that I have. So, I'm paying extra for something I more than likely won't use. And believe me, I'm quite the music lover and I only have 600 songs on mine. So, I could've went with the 10 GB IPod. And then comes the rumor that you will have to replace the battery in a year and a half for $100. If true, shame on Apple. This item while very sleek and trendy, it is also very expensive and not easy on the pockets. It's good, but overpriced by at least $150!
Rating: Summary: PC COMPATIBLE!!!!!! Review: I dun understand how anyone would have problems getting your ipod to work with the PC. I have Windows 2000 professional and it works with it fine. It just seems that there are a lot of haters out there. They hate on how the ipod is not meant for the PC, and the other features that other mp3 players have. First of all why would you want a FM player on your mp3 player when the point of having a mp3 player is to have the music you want to listen to on it and not having to deal with the long commercial breaks, annoying DJs, and whack-a** songs you don't even want to listen to. To point out that the ipod is lacking an FM player is just a weak argument. Obviously, Apple knows that this feature is pretty pointless, when you can store thousands of your favorite songs on your mp3 player. I recommend to those who have PCs to invest in a firewire card, because the transfer is speed is just awesome.
Rating: Summary: Great for a year and a half..... then you need a new one. Review: Batteries are the achilles heel for Ipod. Why would apple knowingly release a product that fails after a year? Piss everyone off? Bad Apple!
Rating: Summary: HUGE, IMORTANT, MUST KNOW information on ipod Review: FYI - the lifespan of the ipod's rechargeable battery is only covered by warranty for one year. If you use it a lot - which is probably the case with most users - be prepared to shell out $100+ to get it replaced in less than 2 years.
Rating: Summary: iPod Review Review: At first when I received my iPod, I was very excited, and had quite high expectations to the product, but these expectations didn't seem to last for long. IPod is said to have approximately 8 hours of continuous play. I though those 8 hours could just cover it - so I bought it. Here the thing: my iPod was able to play 3-4 hours of music, depending on how often I changed songs, used the backlight etc. Pros: - Great Design: nice touch wheel and easy to operate - Good Playback: awesome sound and good earphones - Nice Features: browse songs, playlists etc. Cons: - Battery Life: the battery life totally ruins this product! - Scratches Easily: especially the metal back of the iPod scratches very easily. - Technical Errors: during my short relationship with the iPod, I experienced several errors, mostly when charging from the docking station. The bottom line: don't buy this product!
Rating: Summary: If you don't own an apple computer, you should read this Review: This thing has not been worth the hassle. That's the best way to describe it. Let me just tell you my story. if you're not going to be using this on an apple computer, you need to read this!! To start off with, I don't own an apple computer, I own a gateway system that is incredibly beefed up. really, you aren't going to find a more powerful Gateway PC out there than the one that I use. I ordered one of these 20gig ipod's about 2 months ago. I recieve it in the mail, read the book, do what it says to do, and my music is put onto it. That wasn't too bad. Allright, after using it for about one days, I notice that the battery is only lasting for an hour, when apple says it should last for 8-10 hours. (now this is the part where i want to tell you that i treat this thing like a baby, i dont beat it up at all, i treat it like the last remaining dinosaur egg...it's too damn expensive not to) So i call apple, and i tell them my problem. they were friendly, and they send me a new box to ship the ipod back to them, and they'll fix it. they also told me that if they cant fix it, they'll send me back a refurbished one, which basically means "used". there is absolutely nothing that I can do about this, because they have it in the fine print. So now my situation is that I just spent $450 on a BRAND NEW ipod, i used it for one day, and now they're going to send me a re-furbished one. i ship them my ipod, and i don't hear anything more about for about 3 weeks. i called them a few times, but none of them could REALLY tell me where it was, or the status of the repair. after about a month, i get a new one back in the mail. i use this for about an hour, and i notice the same problem, the battery is not lasting near as long as they say it should/will. THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART!!! My twin brother also ordered an ipod, and he runs the exact same system at home that i do. he has his own computer, but i mean they're the same specs on both of them, and no matter what he does, he just CANNOT get his ipod to read on his system. he messed with it for about 3 days, spent hours on the phone with apple, and they finally tell him to send it back, and they'll send him a refurbished one also. so he sends it in, get's his "new" one back, and it works this time. so he gets all of his music on it, and after about 4 hours of use, the hard drive on it crashes. i mean CRASHES, it's competely toasted. (he didn't beat his ipod up either, we treat our toys very well, especially the ones that cost hundreds of dollars), he was just lying on the couch listening to some music, and he sits up real quick and says "this thing just crashed!!" so he called apple support again, and after a few hours on the phone with them, they tell him that it DID crash, and to send it back for another refurbished one. right now he's in the process of trying to get his money back. BOTTOM LINE: i really really wanted to love this product, i read all of the rave reviews, and i became obsessed with owning one! but let me tell you, it just hasnt been worth it. they're far to expensive to have these kinds of problems with them. IF YOU DON'T OWN AN APPLE COMPUTER, DON'T GET ONE!!! IT REALLY IS JUST A GAMBLE!! please don't make the same mistake that we did. these things just arent ready for a computer that doesnt say apple on it.
