Rating: Summary: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT NO MATTER WHAT Review: FIRST OFF I GOT THIS AS A BIRTHDAY GIFT MY GIRLFRIEND GAVE IT TO ME AND SHE PAID TOO MUCH FOR THIS USELESS PRODUCT. I TOOK VERY GOOD CARE OF IT, IT EVEN HAD THE PROTECTIVE SEAL STILL ON THE PLASTIC. BUT ONLY A MONTH OF USING THE PRODUCT IT STOPS WORKING, IT WILL ERASE ALL THE DATA YOU HAD ON IT AND SIMPLY SAY "UPGRADER" ON THE SCREEN. I BEG YOU DONT WASTE ANY MONEY ON THIS OVERPRICED JUNK THERE IS A REASON THAT THE COMPANY "RIO" IS BANKEDRUPT. SPEND THE EXTRA HUNDRED AND GET AN IPOD THAT WORKS. IF I MEET THE MAKER OF THIS PRODUCT I WOULD BE MORE THEN GLAD TO CHUCK THIS PRODUCT AT THEM!!!!
Rating: Summary: broken after an hour Review: when i first got this out of the box I was really pleased with the product, the program on my pc made it really easy to make playlists and organize my music, however, my player began to freeze and after i restarted it with the paperclip in the emergency slot, the player would turn on and make a wierd clicking noise over and over again and the only thing it would display was the word "upgrader" I called the technical support center and my operater had a heavy accent and a soft voice, which was difficult to understand but they worked me through the problem and after taking all the neccesary steps the player still failed to work, I would just say this was a isolated defective player, however after reading the other reviews it seems that many other people have had similair problems. I would strongley recomend that you do not purchase this product
Rating: Summary: Will return the product Review: There must be better products out there. I have had mine 7 hours(5 of those were charging) and I will take it back. If this product was beta tested by average consumers, someone had to either fix the results or Rio released a bad product. The sound is good, I like the earphones, but that is it. I charged it up and just wanted to listen to preloaded songs, it is a nightmare to just navigate those songs. The navigational button is small and randomly responds, you push the button something may happen something may not, it may start scrolling through the song, it may go to the next song, it may go to a bookmark, or most times it does nothing. Bottom line if I can't listen to the song I want to with minimal effort I don't want the product. I am also insulted that I pay $219 dollars for and I must download a manual just to do the basic functions.
Rating: Summary: Rio Nitrus-Freezing Problems Review: My initial expereinces with the Niturs were great. It was extremely easy to transfer songs to the player and it played without flaw with very good battery life. However, after downloading more songs onto the player I had a freeze occur in which player locked up. Rio Tech Support was very helpful in directing me on how to unfreeze the player. However, since that time the player has frozen numerous times which has required resetting. Resetting always takes you back to the first song on your player. Sometimes the player just won't go to the next song, sometimes it stops in middle of a song, sometimes it freezes when trying to advance to a song further down the player list. Rio support has recommended a hard reset, which in short requires I delete all songs, update latest firmware, re-load software, and load all songs onto the player again. If this fails then they recommend return of the player. In short, great, lightweight, player when it is working but freezing problems make questionable buy in light of other competition (especially soon to come out IPOD Mini at 2.0)
Rating: Summary: Good things come in small packages Review: Easy to use, easy to download, good sounding, small, good battery life - what's not to like? If you want to have the songs set up in a particular sequence just create playlists and download the playlist.Unless you're using WMA files, forget about 375 songs. I'm just over 55% of rated capacity using mostly MP3 files and I'm at 180 songs. Like most hard drives I doubt you really want to use the full capacity since there may be some performance issues. For me the size of the player is very important. 300 plus songs plus the ability to take the player anywhere including biking and blading makes it a winner. An IPod is definitely larger and heavier which makes it much less user friendly for what I would use it for. The Nitrus fits anywhere - the IPod or Dell or whatever does not. Incidentally I've now had my Nitrus over a month and it has consistently and completely worked as it is supposed to work. It gets used at least once a day and it has already travelled to five states. Can't say a bad word about it frankly.
Rating: Summary: Excellent, but tech support needs to learn English Review: I had a few minor problems with initial setup, and after calling tech support, which was a non toll free number, and waiting on hold for several minutes i spoke to a representative, who was barely audible, but somewhat helpful. After that...smooth sailing. However the volume and menu controls seem a little unsensitive.
Rating: Summary: What's Wrong With You? Review: The Rio Nitrus is great. Finding songs is simple. All you have to do is read the little manual first!! You can find a song by Artist, Album, Song Title, Genre and even Year (the song came out). You can even make playlists! You CAN change equalizer settings in the middle of a song. I've had my Nitrus for a while now and have never had a problem with it.
Rating: Summary: An average value Review: I bought this player a few days ago. After using it for a while now, there are several problems that began to surface. The biggest problem that I have encountered was with accessing the music. There's no way to browse songs on it except to go to the menus everytime!! This is so cumbersome it takes me so long to find a certain song. Rio needs to fix this with the next firmware release and also include an enqueue function.
Rating: Summary: Great size and capacity but horrible controls Review: I had great hopes for this player, but I am returning this for a number of user control reasons. -The volume is too small and I'm not a big person with large hands. They are just too small to use when working out or when you need quick response. I had to struggle to increase the volume. -The joystick had problems with the play option. I had to hit it several times to play a file. -Once it starts playing a file, it is quick to switch songs and move back and forth between music, but the initial play of the first song takes time to load. This is not seen with a flash memory player or even the Ipod (another hard drive player). -Once a song plays, the jog dial does nothing but change display info, it cannot change settings (equalizer). -Menu button is too small. Same thing with the volumn. You need to press it with your nail to access. -Hard to handle with one hand due to the size of buttons and location I know some people have had success with this player but that's probably because they grew accustomed to the cumbersome controls. I have used many mp3 players, and while I had much hope for this one because of the price and capacity, it just does not cut it. For the number of songs it can hold, the access of features and menu items must be top priority.
Rating: Summary: Small MP3 device - Love the size!!! Review: I am an avid .mp3 listener and have a great demand for storage. The 1.5GB doesn't hold everything, but it holds enough for me to put together a quick playlist before going out on a run or bikeride. In fact, I haven't needed to change the music for several days/workouts and haven't repeated listening to anything yet. The size to storage ratio is the largest selling point. It is hard to believe (and many people doubt when I tell them) that this little guy can hold a massive 1.5GB. The sound is pretty good and the graphic equalizer works wonderfully. I have a couple of gripes. 1) The volume buttons are horrible and feel very flimsy. I sometimes worry about using them... fearing that they might break if I press one too hard. And they are soooo small, which is unneeded. There is plenty of un-used "surface real-estate" and making them larger wouldn't have been a sacrifice. 2) When you have locked the .mp3 device (so you don't accidently change tracks or turn it off) there is no way to get a backlight on so you can see the track information without turning the lock off. Very inconvenient, especially while riding a bicycle. 3) An hour after the first charge (over 6 hours) it just kind of crashed and would not restart on me. I charged it again and it hasn't failed since. Crossing my fingers, but I wonder if I have a bad device. 4) There is a scrolling wheel on the side of the device. What is this for??? Nothing scrolls, you use the little joystick in the middle to do that. When you push the wheel the information on the screen will change, but the scrolling does nothing. I'm trying to figure this one out. 5) Putting together playlists don't work very well. 6) Retailing at $300, this could include some type of case. However, this is small enough to stick into my jeans with no problem (best to turn the lock on first) but a case would have been nice. For a small, compact .mp3 player I highly suggest this one. I've really enjoyed it and you just can't beat the size with this much hard drive space.
