Summary: 90 Day Warranty
Review: My Rio Nitrus is 4 1/2 months old and I just learned that my Nitrus, which now beeps 7 times over and over before eventually getting to the dreaded "UPGRADER" message, is out of warranty.

Technical support informed me that it is defective and needs to be replaced, but they will not replace it because it's out of warranty.

My only Rio option is to pump another $100 into Rio for an "out of warranty" repair.

I'm not going to waste any more money with Rio.

A 3 month warranty on a $250+ player (bought in early October 2003) is way too short and something to think about if you are considering buying a Rio product.

Go to the Rio website and see all the people who have had to replace these units. It's epidemic.

Summary: don't buy it!
Review: I regret that I did not heed the reviews that recommended against purchasing this player. While some have found this player to be fine, I was unable to get it to work. After many hours spent--following all of the suggestions of the Rio support staff (both on the phone and online)--I tossed in the towel. I bought the Rio Nitrus because my Rio 500 has worked well for more than 4 years and I thought Rio had its act together--I was wrong. To make matters worse, after all of my efforts to get it working, my security software alerted me to the presence of a corrupted file and possible virus from the Rio downloads.

Summary: very disappointed...
Review: When i first got this mp3 player... i thought it was the greatest thing ever. I filled it up with all my favorite cds and i was really enjoying it. Then one day (after leaving it in the charger that night) i go to listen to it after school, and guess what... it wont even turn on. So i go home and plug it in and then it turns on. so at first i figure i just didnt plug it in all the way or something...so it didnt charge. but then it happened again a week later... and eventually the battery would only hold charge for about 3 hours... so i took it back to bestbuy... and got another one. I took extra care in charging this one correctly, then i put all my songs back on, get up, turn it on, pick what i wanted to listen to, and stick it in my pocket and go outside. As im walking around, the sound keeps clicking and fading in and out. The headphone jack was not connected properly inside the unit, so if you jiggled the headphone the slightest bit, it would mess up the sound. It wasnt my headphones, because i tested it with several pairs... so thats two now that have been defective, and honestly i dont feel like taking it back to get another. All im gonna say... is im going to upgrade to one of those new ipod minis.

Another thing... the design... the whole front is a shiny plastic. If you leave it in your pocket or bookbag, and they happens to be some loose change there too... it will scratch up the front of the unit really badly... they need to come out with a small effective case for it

Summary: Great Product
Review: I have used this player for 2 months and have had no problems. I love everything about it except the earbuds. I would advise getting a good pair of earphones. Because I enjoyed the MP3 experience so much, I decided to get another player with more capacity. Unfortunatley, I chose the MUVO2 4gb player because of price. Boy what a mistake. Compared to the Rio products (we have the Karma, and the Fuse) it is total crap. The software is confusing at best, the documentation is practically non existent, and don't even bother with the website support. Where the Nitrus took me about 20 minutes to set up and load, the Creative MUVO2 took several hours. The Nitrus is totally user friendly, and the software is very easy to use. Probably the only things that I would add, are a case and the ability to delete tracks directly from the unit. Today I sent back the MUVO and will wait until the Nitrus 4gb hits the market and get that.

Summary: Very good deal!
Review: I have been using this player for two months now and I love it. The small size and huge capacity are the best characteristics of this product. I use it almost every day and haven't had any problems with it so far. I read another review in which the owner said the player could be in your pocket without noticing it is actually there and, guess what,... it is true. I've had other MP3 players in the past, but this is the best one so far.

Summary: Great............. so far
Review: It's awesome! The first MP3 player that I actually use on a regular basis. The sound quality is great. It can store around 35 CDs at a quality bitrate. It has a great operating system allowing you to play, for example, only "rock" songs or only songs by a particular artist or album. The LCD display uses an efficient and sharp font. I had to turn up the contrast to see it though. It's very easy to move through the menu system with the control stick. Battery life is great. I've run with it once and it didn't skip. It's soooo small, thin and light. I haven't dropped it yet, but I like how it has a rubber edge to it. The Nitrus blows away my old Rio. I swore I would never buy from Rio again due to their TERRIBLE customer service, but this thing was too irresistible. The warranty is very short unfortunately, so I hope I don't have to deal with their tech support any time soon. It's been a couple of months and things are going fine so far. After reading some of the other reviews, I realized that I was not connected to the net when I installed the management software, so it has not been upgraded. I'm scared to do it as this seems to cause problems.

Summary: Great
Review: i havent had it very long but i will update if anythin changes. so far this is a great player, the sound is great and can go really loud, easy to operate can be slightly cumbersome at times but u forget about it once u get used to it, holds alot. People comparing this to an ipod is just stupid. This player isnt meant to hold your whole mp3 collection yet it still holds way more than any flash player this is for people in the middle that want a few hundred songs in a small package. i would recomend this player to anyone in the market for a new player as an alternative to any flash mp3 player

Summary: Dont listen to the others.
Review: First of all, the disign is not flawed. The disign is awsome.it slips right into your pocket nicly (not like the ipod or rca lyra) and the costomer support cant be beter. i had a problem with mine to, but i got it fixed in no time. This player also features a rechargeable battery.

Summary: Look elsewhere
Review: I got the Rio Nitrus for a Christmas present and I thought it would solve the problem of having to fumble through those annoying Cds and batteries; I was wrong. The Nitrus is very unreliable. It worked just fine for me the first week...and then, like icdrjjk said, it froze. i had to look on the support website to find out how to reset the thing, therefore deleting all of my music. It gets worse, then i could only download music to a certain memory point (983/1500 MB)when the Nitrus would then start to click and click...dislpaying an OPERATION TIMED OUT message. So then i need to call 3 costumer support people so they could OK me returning the defective Nitrus to the manufacturer. My suggestion is not to get this Rio...or a Rio at all. Stick with a reliable MP3 player like an Ipod.

Summary: One fabulous week, then kaput
Review: For the short period of time that the Nitrus was functioning properly, I loved it. The sound quality was good--even with the
standard ear buds, and I found the menu system easy to navigate.
Unfortunately, you can add me to the list of people whose units lock up in the "upgrader" mode, and never come back to life. I had approximately 400 songs loaded on the unit and lost every one of them. After a long call with a moderately-accented CSR,
I was told that the unit was defective. I you do buy a Nitrus, I would NOT enable the automatic software upgrade. Better to have the older software, than to be stuck in upgrader mode for the rest of eternity.
