Rating: Summary: problems (not with mac os X) Review: I have had a terrible time getting this thing to work with windows XP. There were errors on the installation, I contacted support, got a lame, involved and not very helpful response. I de-installed the software hoping to go back to the website later to find a comprehensive new installer but have had no luck after 6 months. I have a fairly "vanilla" laptop that has no problems intalling other software, and I really hate installation problems with out of the box software. Perhaps you will have more luck than I did, but... I would have RMA'd the thing if I did not have a mac. BUT... Now I just use it with my wife's Mac OSX machine and ITunes, and with that it works perfectly.
Rating: Summary: Good value! Amazing technology in a small package. Review: I'd read many reviews before buying this unit so I felt I knew what to expect as far as the pros and cons. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised at the overall sound quality. Listening to one of my Beatles CD's I had loaded to the unit I was hearing things I hadn't heard before. Good overall fidelity. Volume range presents no problem as some have mentioned. The belt clip doesn't hold on tight enough, but I took another reviewers suggestion and added some sticky back velcro to the back side of the clip and I'm in business. Re. the software: I found it to be adequate. It works just fine. Someone mentioned upgrading to Playcenter 3. I'm going to check into that. Overall I strongly recommend the Nomad IIc.
Rating: Summary: Its great but it broke!! Review: I have used my Nomad for 7 months on and off and have nothing but highest praise for it. Of course a little more output on the volume would be nicer. I wouldn't even mind a few more ounces of weight to get that extra volume with no dropoff in great sound quality. No problems with transfering computer music files to the player either. But now, on my latest outdoor run, the player suddenly made a sound like something you would hear if you were to put your finger on a turning record to slow down the needle and the resulting sound is similar to what I got. Kind of a screeching sound. Like the Nomad's computer circuits were going haywire. Then the Nomad just shut down and now will not even display a menu....nothing but a lit screen. I had no warranty so it looks like a new player with a warranty this time.
Rating: Summary: Great Mp3 Player, Great Features, Great Price Review: This Mp3 player is a great, cheap alternative to other high-end mp3 players. It has a cool feature in which you can record your voice, and actually comes out very clearly. The screen is very readable, and the uploading program is very easy to use. Although There are many great things about this product, there still are a few minor details that keep this player from recieving 5 stars. One, is that in the progrm you use to upload songs, It is wierd on how you get to songs. I have nearly 1,600 songs in my mp3 collection, but you can't select directly from them. First, you have to select them from the "browse files" icon and put it into the program, then upload it to your Nomad. Not to mention battery life is used while you are uploading songs. Not a biggie, but they could have fixed it. Second, andIhave seen many other reviews say this, is the volume. And, sorry to say, they are right. But don't just say no, because although the sound is low, you can still hear the music over a busride. Also, it depends on the song. The newer, the lowder. The older, the more silent. But trust me, the sound, is VERY clear. It is a good volume where it is. The setup program on this is great, in less than 30 minutes out of the box, I was listening to "Jeff Beck- Freeway Jam". So if you are looking for a great mp3 player, right out of the box, ready to go at a cheap price, this is the mp3 player for you. I STRONGLY recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Phenomenal! Review: After much researching and agonizing over my first purchase of an MP3 player, I decided on the Nomad IIc and don't regret my decision in the least. Actually, that's not quite true, this is the second MP3 player I've purchased-- the first one I bought last month was an iRiver SlimX and I packed it back up within 20 minutes of opening it and sent it back to Amazon the next day. The sound/volume was terrible (much too low) and the sound quality itself was greatly lacking. The Nomad IIc has unbelievable volume and sound quality both. The Creative wrap-around headphones, included with the player, perform surprisingly well, are very comfortable, and output clear tones and rich bass. The only problem I had (as have others, according to the reviews) was with the software. After installing the software that came with it (Creative Play Center 2) it wouldn't connect with the Nomad. Documentation, likewise, is extraordinarily weak ...I found the solution at their website, however, which was to upgrade to Creative Play Center 3. After I installed the upgrade, I was transferring MP3's in seconds. On an 800MHz Intel PC, 512MB RAM, USB 1.1, W98SE, it takes about 12 seconds to transfer a 5 MB file-- sweet! I bought an extra Viking 128MB smart media card to increase storage ... and had no problems with it being recognized. The Nomad is about the size of a pack of cigarettes, weighs next to nothing, is designed with easy to use and understand controls, and the belt clip seems quite substantial. For the price and quality, this makes a great starter MP3 player!
Rating: Summary: Frustrated with the software Review: I find that this little player has great sound quality and is fairly simple to use. However, as soon as I installed the software, I had to update it. I also had to update the firmware. I bought this to send to my boyfriend in Iraq with the intention of continuing to send him new music during the time he is on active duty. The MP3 player had to have no moving parts because of the sand storms. However, when I received the player, installed everything, and copied music to the Smart Card using a Smart Card Reader/Writer, the player would not recognize the songs, even though they would play on the computer. It turns out that the software puts a hidden file on the Smart Card so that the player knows that the card was copied to when in the player. This means that the music MUST be copied directly to the player itself, which would not be in the country. This is a severe issue for those who will not have direct access to the player when copying songs. I highly recommend a different brand for those people.
Rating: Summary: Broke after 110 days of use NO WARRANTY Review: Hello, I bought this product back in January of 2003 thinking that it would last for a bit. Instead it unexpectedly stopped working at the end of April and since it is past the 90-day warranty period the manufacturer will not assume responsibility for the item. The product worked very well, the software that comes with the MP3 player is very good and it is easy to use. However, I must say that since this product broke so soon and the warranty does not protect it, makes me very upset with this purchase.
Rating: Summary: excelent mp3 player! Review: I bought this mp3 player at the start of 2003 and I have had no troubles. I bought the 128mb version and the songs I put on there are 96kbps and I can fit 50 songs on it! The only thing I dont like about it is the battery life(10 hours)compared to my sony radio(48 hours) but I dont mind it that much because I got some rechargable batteries(it only needs one)Its very light weight and has never skiped.I could put two in the palm of my hand.It is built strong and sturdy because I have dropped several times and nothing is wrong with it. ...
Rating: Summary: Excellent product Review: I had the tiny 32mb Yepp player, which I loved because it was so easy to take on runs due to its small size. But the 8 or 9 songs it could save was just too few given my runs were up to 3 hours in length. So I bought the Nomad based on price, reviews, size and MB. I have not been disappointed. I personally found the software simple to install and use. I also agree with others that the belt clip could be stronger - the player tends to move when running, but as suggested by another reviewer I put some velcro on the clip and now it is more grippy. Problem solved. I will say that the player is incredibly light and I don't even notice it while running (the Yepp used to bounce against me due to its clipping method, but that's not a problem with the Nomad.) And of course it holds a lot more than 9 songs - I have 32 on it right now. So, if you are looking for a workout companion who can hold around a few hours worth of tunes at a reasonable price, this is the product for you!
