Summary: Absolutely no doubt - the BEST player on the market
Review: After having checked the reviews of all the leading MP3 players, I finally made my purchase of the Rave 2200. And it really is a great as I expected. Here are the highlights: 64MB and expandable to 128 w. standard SmartMedia Card - Fast USB connection fills up 64MB in something like 3 minutes - Very good FM radio - Very good PC software - Neat design, very small size. The enclosed headphones do not allow the player to live up to its full potential though, so I scrapped them and got a set of Sonys, which now gives me really really good sound. At ... - I wouldn't really call it "cheap", but considering the excellent quality of this product, I am altogether extremely happy with it.

Summary: My New Favorite Toy!
Review: After reading every review I could find for the purchase of my first MP3 player, I chose the Rave 2200. It's terrific. Smaller than I expected, the sound quality is great. I love the added feature of the FM tuner which has very good reception. I use it at the health club and for rollerblading. It's easy to operate. I keep it in my pocket (with a safety pin to hold it in) and can change songs, volume etc. right through the material so I don't have to take it out. It took me a little while to figure out the software and get it loaded (I'm in my 40's after all!) but now I add/delete songs in minutes if the mood strikes me. I've used it daily for over a week and haven't gotten tired of the approximately 1 hour's worth of music it holds, although I've ordered a card for more memory for traveling. I changed to my Sony headphones because I don't like the earbuds and the sound it even better. Definitely the right choice! A gem!

Summary: Rave:2200 - Let the buyer beware!
Review: As an owner of a MP:Rave 2200 I found it to be a good MP3 player... up to a point. For me problems arose when I tried to use the Rave with Windows XP. My experience has been a disaster and until now it still does not work properly. What is even more frustrating is trying to get help on the problem from MP:MAN, SonicBlue and Sensory Science the creators and distributors of the MP:Rave. After months of sending E-mails I received only one response which was to ask for further details on the problem. The 2200 could be a great pleasure to use if only its creators were more customer focused. From my experience this is a sad commentary on a potentially great product.

Summary: Junk MP3 player..Basically Oversized Digital Voice Recorder
Review: I bought this mp3 player because of all the features it had. FM radio, note pad, file transfer, voice recorder w/ built in mic, and mp3 player.

But what dissappoinment I got. First of all it didn't really look like it did in the advertisement. The casing is cheesy aluminum that got scratched SO EASILY. You could put a scratch mark on it with your fingernail or even in your pocket!!

Second, because the casing is very thin aluminum, if you press too hard on the case, the chipset's own metal contacts the metal casing which basically either freezes or corrupts the memory for ever!!. Next The screen is sooo small, with no Backlight at all.

And it can't hold the full mp3 file name so it cuts it down to 12 characters. Trust me this is a piece of Junk mp3 player.

Now the sound quality, ..horrible first generation digital sound processing. It sounds exactly like the first (...) rio 300. A good way to test if an mp3 player has a good dsp is to put 64bitrate mp3s on it and listen to them. If it still sounds good, then it is a high quality mp3 player. RaveMP2200 is junk. Ok now the good features..um its has a good digital radio that picks up only one or two stations (basically useless). Um oh yea, you can put text files on it to read, (scrolls across like mp3 titles, clumsy) , And it has a voice recorder that works pretty well. The vr actually works pretty good, (the only reason I didn't chuck this junk into the garbage). The vr records in wav format and you can put it on ur computer.

Basically, this is not an mp3 player, it's an oversized digital voice recorder (i've seen much smaller digital vr) that has cheesy extra multitask function of an mp3 player and radio.

If you want a great mp3 player, the RIO 500 is the answer! I have 2 rio 500s. It is awesome. The sound processor on it is of such high quality that it makes even low quality mp3s such as 64bitrate sound even better!! Also it has tons of features. But it did lack a voice recorder and fm radio that some other more cheesy mp3 players have.

I gave RIO500 4 1/2 stars, the 1/2 star minus because of no multitask features such as voice recorder or radio.

Basically if you want the best sounding mp3 player that looks and functions flawlessly, the Rio 500 is the answer.

Summary: Rated as a Marvel, not worth it!
Review: I did quite some research before acquiring a mp3 player, and not with opinions from Amazon.com only. Guided by many reviews, I opted for this Sensory Science Model.

My comments:

1- If you are a long haul traveller trying to find an alternative for the nightmarish airplane entertainment system, FORGET IT. The airplane background noise is so disturbing that you will barely hear your music. Reading reviews for the Ravemp 2300 caused me to conclude the same happens with that model as well;

2- It is true you can record voice messages. It is a convenient facility if you are in a meeting and want to have a precise record of what was said. However, forget about trying to transfer the voice message to your PC or Laptop. Not only it takes forever, but the *wav resulting file is so big that it becomes prohibitive. It is quite cumbersome to upload as well.

3- Sometimes you have to push the USB cable so hard into the player that you are afraid you will break it. If the USB connection cannot be established, the player worths nothing;

4- For the remainder of the features, it is nice to have FM tunning and pre-setting, as well as listening your mp3 files at the quiteness of your living room, specially if you recorded from CD's with the bundled MatchBox software (you will also feel trapped to upgrade the software, a questionable attempt and a questionable result)

BEAR WITH ME:

IF YOU WANT JUST MUSIC, BUY A GOOD CD PLAYER, BURN YOUR OWN CD'S. IT IS BETTER, MUCH CHEAPER AND YOU WILL NOT HAVE TO GO TO ANY AGGRAVATIONS.

Summary: All the right features
Review: I found the Rave mp 2200 to have a decent amount of memmory with the option of adding more(so its technically unlimited), an FM tuner and a mic handy for use as a dictaphone, a memo facility( cant be used on the move i.e must be typed in at a computer) as with the tlephone storage. Ive dropped it a good 5 times onto hard surfaces accidentally and no problems so far although the writing wears off after about 3 weeks. Ive had mine for a year now and the main unit still works although the in-line remote failed so im using some panasonic ones now. Overall very good.

Summary: So I bought two - without an AARP discount
Review: I liked mine so well that I bought one for my wife. It is small and easy to use. The removable Smart Media is great - lots of capacity and I can interchange with my wife's player. I use smart media in my digital camera too, so I can share the removable cards for both purposes as needed. The computer interface is simple.... MP3 is not for just the young - I am old enough to be a member of AARP.

Review: I purchased my 2200 after reading numerous reviews on various Mp3 players. Everyone had great things to say about the product. I have had nothing but problems.

There was a problem with the internal memory when I purchased it. I was unable to utilize the entire 64mb of memory. After numerous calls to customer support, who got back to me 50% of the time, they finally had me send it in. They had if for a couple of weeks before I got it back

They fixed the memory problem, but then I immediately started having different problems with the memory. It had fits and starts and then finally stopped playing music all together after a couple of weeks. After finally getting in contact with them again, they informed me it would be $100 to fix the problem since I had owned it for more than 90 days.

I would rather spend another $160 and get a brand new Rio. So now I have a shiney $200 paper weight. Very disappointed with the product and service

Summary: Best Buy Ever
Review: I recently purchased the Rave 2200 series mp3 player. It was more than what I had expected. It super small, comes with a wired remote on ear bud head phones, it transfers very fast from the PC to Mp3, and its upgradeable with a Smart Media Card. It only uses 1 AA battery and it has 10 hours of playtime. Sound quality is superior. I'm glad I picked this over the nomad II. The only down side to the rave is there is no back lit lcd screen and no belt clip. Guess you can't have it all.
