Summary: Works well...but a few bugs
Review: I purchased the player in December 2001. It has worked quite well and the sound is great, but there are also a few bugs....the screen keeps getting black lines across the front all the time making the output hard to read. Also, I have had trouble with it getting "stuck" a few time...all the controls froze up and it wouldn't do anything. I have also had this problem with the Rio 500 I had. With the Rio, I could just take out the batteries and put them back in...with the Hipzip, that is not possible, so it makes it more of a problem. Overall, I am pleased with the player and the reasonably priced media disks.

Review: This is a great item. But forget about the $99 price. It is a bait and switch. Just try to purchace this item for $99 on this page. Don't waste your time. It can't be done. As the telephone rep told me this is the price you would pay if we had one to sell.????????????? 02/28/02 8:54pm CST

Summary: The bastard child of Iomega
Review: I purchased this MP3 player for my girlfriend to use when snowboarding, and we have had nothing but problems with it. The firmware is buggy, and tech support is non-existent! Iomega has stopped production on this device, and I'm not sure if they plan to continue to support it. If you really want to know about it, check out iomega.com's tech support section for this device... it will be a real eye opener to anyone planning on buying it. It's a great idea, but dosn't live up to what it could have beem.

Summary: I love it and I hate it!!!
Review: let me start by saying that overall I love this player, however the very first unit I purchased was back in May 2001, I had issues with upgrading the "dadio sw". Contacted technical support and arranged for a replacement. Replacement received "DOA". Arranged for a second repalcement, received it powered up but would not read any of my media, at that point I noticed that they were sending me re-manufactured units as replacements. Contacted technical support expressed my dis-pleasure with relpacementprocess and received a new unit that has functioned exceptionally unit today (2/16/02) when it will not read any of my media. I've also have had problems with the media and have had to replaced 3 disks with new ones due to window malfunctions.
But when it work it is great, I liked the flexability of the media. In a pinch I was able to load documents and spreadsheets and move them to my other systems when the files were to large for a floppy. The quality of the sound is excellent. I also use the unit for audio books and the bookmark feature works well.

Summary: Another Stuck Disc
Review: No wonder the price of these things has dropped so much...they are crap. I sit here waiting for customer service and felt I should share. I am on my second try with this thing(they were helpful in letting me return it) and now have a disc stuck in it. While I hope that they will take it back cuz i like the way it functions, having to get 3 in one year is ridiculous...unless they give you a lifetime warranty...beware!

Summary: Nothing but Complaints
Review: In less than three months I owned three HipZip players, all faulty. The first two players worked for a short time (1 week and 1 day, respectively) before the ejection system broke, trapping the disk inside. The final player had a faulty reset button, and since the player tends to jam and not read disks under the best of circumstances, the reset button is key. The controls are very slow to respond. The bookmark feature is clumsy and its use inadequately explained.
Equally bad is Iomega's customer support for this product. I was given advice that was not applicalbe to the player. E-mailed support questions were often not read thoroughly. My complaint that the reset button was faulty got this response: "I understand that you you are facing with the problem that disk doesn't spin and would not read any disk." I've read fortune cookies that were more helpful.
Credit where it's due: song transfer is as simple as drag and drop, upgrading the firmware is equally easy, and the anti-skip is highly effective. The earbuds supplied are uncomfortable and a little tinny, but passable until you can get a better pair.

Summary: Great product; too bad Iomega overpriced it at introduction
Review: Easy to use; sounds great (you MUST replace the cheesy headphones that come with the unit). If you make your MP3s into WMAs, you can get 17-18 songs on one 40MB disk, which is roughly 70-80 minutes of music. How much more do you NEED at one time? Better yet, you DON'T need ANY of the software that comes with it -- since your system just recognizes it as an additional drive on your USB connection, you just plug it in and copy the songs you want! The battery is rechargeable (and supposedly will last 500 cycles); I get 8-9 hours of operation, which means I'm recharging every two weeks or so. I generally carry three disks with me, in a digital camera case that holds everything. ... Buy up some extra disks when you get yours; no way of telling how long Iomega will keep making them, and I'd guess it won't be for long. But if you're looking for good sound, convenience, and a great price, HipZip works!

Summary: Audio Listeners Will Love It.
Review: This audio player is easy to use. It comes with a attractive and funtional carry case, 2 zipdisks, earphones, and a 110vt recharger for its internal battery (a 12 volt car recharger is available from Iomega). It can hold approx 9 hrs and 10 min of audio book (format 2). The removeable zip disks (you can buy more from Amazon or Iomega) make this unit superior to the Rio for travelers because of the endless supply of material you can take with you. It weighs aprox 2 lbs, which makes it a little heavy for jogging, but gives it a solid feel. Book listeners will love it.

Review: I ordered this product for my husband after doing a ton of research and also subscribing to Audible.com. He loves the HipZip, and it works better than expected. The sound quality is very good, although I did buy him a better set of headphones. The computer hook-up/software/use is very easy and intuitive. The BIG DRAWBACK is that Iomega apparently is not making them or the pocket disks anymore - they won't say they are discontinuing, only that they can't get parts from their suppliers. (?) Anyway, I was planning to purchase another for my son, but am now looking for a comparable product.
