Summary: Samsung Yepp neu memory limits.
Review: The Mp3 player works well, I bought two as christmas gifts in september, and my kids opened then on christmas. I also bought memory, 128mb. This was on the Amazon website as an accessory.
The Samsun does not use 128mb, no larger than 64. This was not on the technical details, not on the box and only a chart on the samsung web page had any reference to the size memory. I could not take it back due to the time being greater than 30 days.
Do not trust the recommendations on the website and test all equipment as soon as it is recieved, even if it is wrapped in a sealed package. It is easier to explain to a kid that you played with before they got it, than try to explain why it doesnt work, and not get your money back.

Summary: Good value but quirky design
Review: This MP3 player is a good value overall if you can buy it cheap. I got mine for around $40 so I'm happy. Now that I added the 64MB SM card, it's even better. Here is some advice if you want to buy this MP3 player.Advice #1: Ditch the headphones that come with the player and get a better one. Otherwise, you'd think that this MP3 player's audio quality is pretty bad. It's actually pretty good so get a nice pair of headphones. Advice #2: Get rechargeable batteries like Ni-MH. This player will sometimes turn on because the "hold" function on the remote does not prevent the player from turning on if the button on the player itself is pressed. Then you will see the battery dead or drained even when you didn't listen to it. Advice #3: Get Samsung Yepp Explorer. I can only use this software to upload songs. I couldn't get my Real One player to work. But the Yepp Explorer is hard to use. Not only does it take a long time to rename and shuffle songs in an order you'd like, it's not the easiest software to use. Also, the songs loaded on the player's internal memory is played first THEN the songs loaded on the smart media card. There you have it. A good player for under $60 at 96MB (~$40 for player + ~$20 for 64MB Smart Media card). You can't beat that value and good audio quality on this player!

Summary: Sound quality is better than what I expected.
Review: I bought this player for my niece to listen to English(ESL programs). I just got it for a week. Before I send it to my niece, I recorded some pieces from my classic CD collection. I need to say I never felt confidence with MP3 format for music I love because classic needs more range and high tones. After some pieces of Chopin, I must say this small player can handle this especially when you are on the way. I mean you don't demand something similar as a home Hifi system.
My wife has a Rio 600 which can't compete with this Samsung in term of sound quality.
The price of this little toy is very reasonable now.

Review: I already own one of this players. It has been great! Sound quality is excellent. The only thing that doesnt work its the belt clip, but its so small that it fits well in my pocket, so its not a big deal! Great price and just what i needed.

Review: I like this little guy. Likes: Batteries last a long time. The remote control (cabled) is cool. Sound quality is great. Takes SmartMedia cards (same as my digital camera). Dislikes: Belt clip is [bad]. Wish there was an LCD on the main unit. Oh-use the YePP Explorer (you may have to download it). The instructions suggest that you use Real Jukebox or something like that. I tried it, it's slow and confusing, and the Real program tries to take over your computer. The YePP Explorer is simpler and faster.

Review: This little device has been everything I needed...inexpensive, light-weight, and holds enough music to get me through my run every day. For someone not tech & electronically savvy, I wasn't looking for anything extreme, didn't need too many functions, rather something simple and easy to operate and load music...just what I was looking for.

Summary: poorest mp3 player I tried
Review: bought this one to replace broken rio500, because it was really cheap ($30 after coupon). I didn't expected anyting, and I was right. So much worse than rio500! The only good thing I can say about this one is that it is really light, even if bulky. The upload speed is about that of serial cable and there are no features at all. The worst thing (ok, I knew about this one) is that it doesn't take 128MB SM cards. Besides, the card compartment doesn't close, so the card is always a bit exposed. My experience with Samsung products was typically good, but this player doesn't feel very sturdy.

Review: Tips to maximize your yepp usage:
1. Throw away the belt clip, it's useless. Just stick it in your pocket and be done with it.
2. Buy a 64meg memory flash card. NOT 128 because it doesn't support it.
3. The little remote is cool but every time you press a button on the controller the handy backlight emits a really low whine which I seem to be the only one to hear through the headphones. Accordingly, once you set the EQ you shouldn't need the controller on the remote anyway.
4. Batteries. Get some rechargeable AAA NiMHi batteries. It looks like the controller uses up the batteries ALOT more if you have it attached.
5. The hold function: It does work but if you have the remote controller attached you have to set the hold on both the unit AND the controller.
6. The controller... nice but more trouble than it's worth. It eats the batteries, the backlight emits a whine, and it has a separate hold you have to enable as well. My advice, chuck it. The only reason I use it now is when I connect to my pc in order to double check the connection (It says PC when connected properly).
8. Transferring Files. Do not use the cdrom included with the unit if you can help it. Put the cdrom down on the desk and slowly walk way. If you have 98, 2K or XP goto the samsung website and download the yepp explorer (yp-ne) for your operating system and the driver if you need it. Please people for the love of all that is good and holy use the samsung explorer instead you will thank me later.
9. That's about it, it's a pretty durable player (I have dropped it in the gym about twenty times) just have fun and enjoy this [inexpensive] and light sub [money] player that I don't have to worry about if it gets stolen or lost or whatever. And buy some decent headphones for it as well but you should already have some lying around the house.

Summary: Don't waste your time on swapping files, get a CD\MP3!
Review: At first, please be aware that it will NOT work with 128M SmartMedia. Got one last November, and it did work. The problem is the speed of deleting old files and uploading new files are very very slow (20~30minutes for my 32M internal + 64M SM Card), which makes the task of swapping your songs into this player for listening a torture. From my own experiences, I suggest everyone buy a CD/MP3 player instead. By the way, This device is supported by RealJukebox but not by RealONE, maybe because it get discontinued. Another unpleasant thing: the "hold" key on the body got malfunction shortly after purchase and I could not use the buttons on the body anymore.

Review: At first I was thrilled with my purchase of this MP3 player. I was light, portable, and great for the gym. Then I began to use it extensively. After months of living with this yepp, I wish I had bought another product. 1) Your Batteries Will Die -- the "hold" function on the player does not work. The hold function is suppose to prevent you from accidentally turn on (or off) your player. Even if you turn off you player and set the "hold" switch, the player will turn on. I have had many plane flight and layovers where I opened my bag and found my player turned on, with the batteries almost dead, even though I set the hold swtich properly. This is a huge quality control problem since you cannot prevent the player from being turned on at the worst times. 2) The headphones are extremely poor -- they will not stay in your ears if you are excerising or jogging. expect to spend additional $$ on headphones. 3) The music load times are poor -- I rarely change the music on my yepp and the 64MG RAM card I have since it takes almost 25 mintues to delete the current musci and add the new music. The software is also not very convenient. Conclusion: choose another player if you can afford to.
