Summary: Cool Cool Cool
Review: Rivals TiVo as the coolest gadget in the house....

I haven't had any of the problems others have mentioned with this player cutting off the end of songs. However, I read this before burning my first CD I made sure to use the "Add 2 seconds blank space to song" feature. Perhaps this made the difference...

The user manual is a joke. One sheet of paper, and even the markings on the buttons are misrepresented in the instructions. Give up reading and just try to figure out the displays and buttons for yourself.

The playback sounds great (those who griped about the quality... did you have your earphone plugged in the correct jack? There are 2; one is for OUTPUT to another stereo and the other for headphones. This makes a big difference in the quality... the OUTPUT jack sounds distorted when listening through headphones).

Love this gizmo!

Summary: sleek looking but bad in functioning
Review: it only looks good. the equalizer has no effect on the sound and is useless. the batteries run out in almost 4-5 hours. the 8 mins buffer is filled if u keep the player in place for some time, so if u are jogging after 8 mins it will start to skip. the customer support is worse than the player itself. first no 800 telephone number to call, when i called their long island number no body picked up nor there was any answering machine. the people never replied to any of my emails which i send 30 days ago. so its a total ripoff. wait for some better player.

Summary: Excellent MP3 player - Suggestions for improvement
Review: First off, let me just say we all know this is a great player, and I will not go into all the praise for this MP3 player, but rather some suggestions for improvement.

1) The battery gauge is a little faulty and often is confused. I believe this part of the product still needs some work. It will often show empty for a while during playback, then all of a sudden jump to 3/4 full.

2) Battery playback is not even close to 15 hours the way I play music. Admitedly, I am possibly not the norm, by I like surfing through my burned CDs. Listen to some of some song, jump past a few, then listen to another song. I imagine this takes up a lot more power then listening straight through the CD. I believe the player can streamline though and become more efficient on battery usage.

3) My one wish for an MP3 player, is an option to streamline volume across an MP3 CD, burned from a multitude of CDs. Ever notice how one song is really loud, then the next song on the CD is a lot quieter? Well, not all CDs are produced alike, thus the variance. They should have an option that calculates the average volume per song, then adjust it accordingly (Since the song should be in memory anyway). This way, it sounds as if all MP3s you have aquired from various locations are at the same volume. I can imagine this feature would be a big hit.

Otherwise, I am sure this is the cream of the crop as far as MP3 players, and I am very satisfied.

These are my 2 cents worth.

Summary: Great Player With a Few Minor Flaws...
Review: I purchased this player a few weeks back, and overall, I have been impressed with its performance.
I ride the train to work, so the 8 minutes of skip protection is great. I also like the fact that it has an FM tuner in case I want to hear something else. I can bring either audio CDs or MP3 CDs, or both. It's great!!
A few minor problems, however. The unit doesn't come with an owners manual, it comes with a CD that has a lot of information that just doesn't help. The thing positively EATS batteries, although it does come with rechargeable ones, they don't last me more than one day's ride to and from work. And the first unit I got was defective, and Amazon had shipped me a replacement unit two whole days before Rio's technical support (not even an 800 # to call) replied to my e-mail.
Other than the fact that it eats batteries and the "owner's manual" isn't at all user-friendly, I would highly recommend this unit.
I would suggest, however, that you consider investing in some better headphones. The two sets that come with the unit are OK, but just don't do the music justice.

Summary: Unbelieveable..... it really works.
Review: Ok. first off i have been doing this MP3 gig for about 2 years now. I first bout the original RioVolt.... which was revoltingly bad - skipped while just walking..... so months later i purchased the Rio 800..... nice unit but only hold 128MB ... which in MP3 terms is only 2 hours..... all these solid state units that claim 4 hours with 128MB... assume you want to convert all your MP3s to WMA....... a very painful process even with good Software like MusicMatch.

So I am about to embark on a oversea trip so I need something with some major play action. Should I go HDD unit like Nomad or should I try MP3/CD again. Well I did both. I tried the Nomad 6GB and Archos 6GB systems..... both were ok, but VERY heavy. I was always fearing that I would drop the (...) and that would be it for the system. Plus they seemed really bulky no matter how i carried them. So they both went back.

While returning these units I decided to take a look at MP3/Cd again. I starred at the SP250 box for a week. Read every review here and on CNET. Well everything GOOD about this unit is TRUE.

Here is a summary of improvements and key features.
1. NO SKIPPING. In both 45sec and 8MN mode I could not make this thing skip.... AMAZING!!!!!!
2. Carrying case.... ok its not leather (as many have stated) it is a pleather product..... but DAMN it works AWESOME... best CD/MP3 case I have ever used bar none. It has a belt clip and a carrying strap for either use....
3. Controls and Display. Just AWESOME. Many have compared it to the rio800.... well I own a Rio800 and will say this display is WAY Better. Much cleared easier to read.
4. Rechargable batteries. They are just AA NiMH batteries. If you have ever used these types of rechargables you already know that they are great. I will say charge time and play time were much shorter then what is stated (more like 6 hours play time and 12 hour charge time). I recomend buying the Eveready NiMH charge and some extra batteries... its an awesome product too.

Ok, the BAD. Both pairs of headphones.... suck. I would recomend noise cancelling ear buds from Sony. Does the same thing as the $(dollar amount) Bose ones... but are very portable and only $(dolalr amount). If that breaks the bank, I would recomend the silver earbuds from Sony $10 at any Target. They work great too.

Hope this helps.

Review: Do you have a PC? If not, go back to bed. If so:

Do you have a CD burner? No? Put the IV back in, but if yes:

Do you like music? No? Okay. Yes? Well:

Do you have the RioVolt SP250? Yes? Okay, you already know. No? just click on "Add to Cart".

By the way, you'll want to pick up the deluxe remote for the SP250 at Riovolt.com. That thing is really awesome.

Summary: Excellent but...
Review: It's an excellent product, and as others posted here.
So I will just focus on the cons:
1) VBR: The "remain time" shown on the LCD for VBR mp3 files are not accurate. The SP250 will always overestimate the total time for VBR files.
2) the total quality. I connect the line out to my Yamaha receiver, and play a max 320bps VBR lame-3.89 compressed "Hotel California XRCD", compare to the DTS DVD version. I can still notice the difference, which I believe not because of the mp3, but the player itself.
