Summary: You guys are way too critical
Review: All of the critics of this cd player have yet to realize one very important thing...this is the best cd/mp3 player on the market. Yes, it is not perfect, but what are your alternatives? I own one of these babies and I got one for my girlfriend. We don't use half of the features and we are more than satisfied with its capabilities. The batteries aren't amazing, but if you recharge them every night you will be fine. The manual does [disappoint], but if you have half a brain you can get figure out most the features on your own. To properly recharge the batteries you have to plug the player in, hold down stop, then press the right arrow, then press stop. This should do the trick to get the full charge into the batteries.

I love this player and I have not had a problem with it (knock on wood). I highly suggest that you purchase one if you are in the market for a mp3 player device.

Oh, and another thing. This baby never skips. I run on the treadmill, ride the subway, and go for bumpy car rides and the player has yet to skip once...

Summary: I think I'm finally satisfied....
Review: I must be one of the most picky music listeners - there is never anything good on the radio, and I was getting tired off all my burned CD-R's taking up space. I've been wanting to invest in an MP3 player since last summer, but I never knew what I really wanted. I checked out the 20 GIG MP3 players, but one of the biggest concerns I had was the fact that the MP3 player is a HD - what happens if you accidentally drop the player or drive over the major potholes on the freeway? Not satisfied with a guarantee that the HD isn't going to develop bad sectors and such, I started looking into the CD-RW MP3 Players.

I decided to go with the Rio because of the name - I know they have decent products. I checked out other models from Rio, and I didn't like the fact that the RioVolt SP90 didn't come with many accessories so I bought the SP250. I am so happy! The buttons are fairly easy to navigate when driving, and during my first week of play I was able to get about 6 car trips to and from work before I recharged the batteries, and there were still 2 bars of power left - this is important because this player does not come packaged with the 4.5V power adapter for your car (or the tape!), but it does come with rechargeable batteries. The reason why I only give this player 4 out of 5 stars is because it is lacking the car adapter kit - I already had a tape from another CD player which works with the player, but my old car power adapter V is too high.

Overall this is a really nice portable CD-RW MP3 Player - anyone who gets bored too quick with your mixed tapes or CD's will love the fact that this player plays RW's...

Summary: Firmware Fixes Most Problems
Review: This player is versatile, reliable, and feature-rich. It plays every bitrate of MP3 that I have thrown at it and every type of cheap CD-R media that I could find. I keep it in the very useful and functional leather case that it came with, and - after 6 months - it still looks and plays like new.

The major concern that I have heard about the SP250 is that it doesn't have the necessary shock protection. Well, of course it isn't going to be as good as a solid state player, but I find the anti-shock to be fine. What's more, with the newest firmware (you must hack the Korean IMP-250 firmware for it...it's not hard, see the mp3.com hardware message boards for instructions) virtually eliminates any skipping, making it equal to the SlimX in that respect. The new firmware also has a nice-looking GUI (graphic user interface) which adds even more features and options.

In all, this is a great product. My only problem with it is that SONICblue is a terrible company for customer support. They do not return e-mails and they do not update the firmware as often as IRiver (the Korean company that designed the player.) So, if you're the kind of person who likes to talk to the people who made your electronic equipment, don't expect much from Sblue.

Summary: Great MP3 player
Review: Very easy to use, good display and backlight. Only one negative comment-FM reception performance is a bit weak. Overall an excellent buy.

Summary: An excellent product, I couldn't be happier
Review: I'm completely sold on this technology: being able to play CD's of MP3's is one of the best ideas I've seen. I have been able to dispense with my CD's, make duplicates for home, work, and travel, and generally carry fewer CD's while getting a greater breadth of music.

I bought a car adapter, so I could listen to them in the car.

It keeps track of where you were in a CD, even if you switch CD's, so you can go back to the same point in a book or album.

Navigation through a CD and display are very easy, I didn't need the manual to figure out what was going on.

I have found the Rio Volt SP250 to be robust, reliable, and very well suited to its purpose. I think others have done a good job of listing the features, etc., so I'll comment only on the issues I've had with it:

- when you switch from AC to batteries, it sometimes turns off, and sometimes loses track of where you are now in the CD.

- I find it far too easy to accidentally hit the 'shuffle' button, and only notice when that particular track has repeated. This is very inconvenient while driving!

- I would have appreciated some sort of tactile feedback on the 'play/stop' button, or any other way to make it easier to hit the stop or pause buttons when you're not looking directly at the unit.

- 8 minutes of anti-skip really is a bit much, although it saves on batteries because it spins up the CD, reads ahead, and then spins it down for a while. If you don't need the FM Tuner (I really did!) you may want to look at the SP100 instead.

- It does indeed feel just a bit flimsy, but I've had no problems with it in the last month and a half and it's solid enough that the flimsy-ness isn't noticable.

Other than that, this was hands-down the best purchase I made for myself in the last 12 months.

Review: I just got this for my birthday yesterday, and I got to listening to my MP3's right away :)... I dont know what half of you people are tlaking about that didnt like it.. but I do.. oh well.. The only problem I have with it is that you can really save your playlists that you make.. I treid bringing a WinAmp playlist into it cause the online FAQish stuff said that it would work, but it didnt really work.. maybe thats cause of some problems with my burner, I dont really know.. but yea, this thing is great!

Summary: One fatal flaw
Review: This is a pretty good CD player, with, of course, the cool features you buy it for--MP3, WMA playback, FM radio, remote control, carry case.

I'd like to note that the anti-skip does not work well if the CD is vertical, as it would be in your pocket while you're *walking*. Yes, it skips even then.

But the thing that really sinks it as a reference product is the fact that it can't play through a segue between tracks without inserting a several millisecond pause between the tracks. It's very brief, but there's no play mode I've found that can prevent this from happening.

If you don't listen to classical music, art rock, techno, ambient, or Broadway, this may not be an issue for you. But if you still want to play *Dark Side of the Moon*? Forget it!

Summary: Not for the active
Review: I give this player one star because the anti-skipping does not work. I like to take long walks and listen to books or music. I bought this player so that I could put an entire book on one CD. Actually you can put a bunch. But when you try to listen to mp3s or regular CDS while walking, it skips alot. The only way that you can walk and listen is if you walk very, very, very slow and hold theplayer in the palm of your hand so that it is horizontal to the ground. I've gone back to my 3 year old Philips Magnovox CD player with its 45 second anti-skip because it does work, although I have to use multiple CDS again for listening to a book.
